    Do you use any kind of water filters on your hose or irrigation system since Phoenix has such hard water? Or is it just another myth that this is necessary/beneficial? I'd be interested to hear the pros and cons.

      that'd be another gardening myth. Besides only true way to remove the calcium from water in mass scale is by using an injection with some sort of acid. But no, all my plants are watered with unfiltered city water.

    I love this video, and so many of your videos. Is there any trick to knowing how often and how much to water mango trees in humid Florida? I have been told about two methods, one is to water only once a week, very deep watering so that the roots reach down to get the water, the other is water about 3 gallons three times a week. I would love a video on this topic of how much to water.

      Answer is always in the soil. I have a video on deep watering trees. Mangos have tap roots. You get clouds in your area, tons of rain and on top of that if you're in south florida, mangos grow like weeds. How long has the tree been in the ground?

    Do you use staples or anything to keep the quarter inch tubing with emitters inside the pots so that they do not fall out or pop out? It does not look like it from your videos, but it is hard to see. Thanks.

      I'll make an irrigation video but the emitters I use in my pots are called spot spitters. Stake is built into the emitter.

      @@qctropicals Thanks! I saw one short video that showed someone using paper clips and bending them and using them as stakes to hold the emitters in place. This is so much cheaper because you can buy a pack of paper clips at the dollar store. I was thinking of trying that as it is so much cheaper.

    0:30 I see those big shade sails... when should those be used?

    • @qctropicals
      @qctropicals  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Shade cloth I use on all my plants I have growing regardless if they're meant to take sun or not. Once they're fully rooted, I acclimate them to full sun. Also, it makes it easier to work outside in the sun for humans :).

    What about soaker hoses?

    • @qctropicals
      @qctropicals  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven't seen one last. If you want to use a soaker hose, setup a drip system instead. Much better.

      @@qctropicals Thank you for your reply. I have them on hand as they are affordable, until I can make the investment. They seem to have held up for a couple of months, so far. Are they a better option than hand and overhead watering?

    • @qctropicals
      @qctropicals  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tinastokes6798 better than watering by hand for sure. Overhead not sure about that. I assume you're watering in ground plants correct? how many plants are you watering?

      @@qctropicals I have four (approx) 20 ft beds. One with 17 arborvitae and fountain grass, another bed has roses, boxwood hedge and Euonymus espalier, another bed has hydrangea hedge and sedge grasses and the last bed has 6 Dawyck gold beech trees and a few flowering plants (irises, flocks, incrediball hydrangeas). A lot of plants. New house with most mélanges last year and some this year.
