yes, it was.... But then Steve Harris whom I love likes fenders with round wounds, I dont, I can play his technique spot on because I alternate my triplets with 2 fingers like he does as opposed to the 3 finger technique used by Entwistle or Sheehan but I play round wound rotos so its never quite exact to Steve's sound, little more ring n ping when I play it
Fantastic classic bass ! I would say that the P bass would have to be one of the most used and recorded basses in history , Another great video and thank you for sharing
Great sounding bass Jonathan Fender Precision always been my favourite ever since I hears Mars Cowling in the Pat Travers band first time seeing a neck that slim didn't know they made them that slim on a Precision
Darryl6636 Mars Cowling has one of the coolest Precision bass tones EVER. His lines on Pat Travers "Medley Pts 1 & 2" have stuck in my head for over 30 years..
Right on Jonathan my favourite Mars Cowling work was from The Pat Travers album "Makin' Magic" from I believe 1977 thats some of my favourite Precision Bass that influenced my for over 30 years now
I thought the whole idea of the P-Bass was to have a neck that was similar to that of an upright - surprising to me that you could get a thinner neck on one that early on. I always thought that the first P-Bass with a narrow neck was the P-Bass special which also had J-Pickups. Guess I'm wrong, good education
Carlos Hernández I'm not 100% sure, but with the darker, more midrange oriented tone, I would say it is indeed Alder. To my ears, Ash would have more lows and less midrange.
I like some, but for the tone I'm going for, I seem to gravitate toward older, passive basses. I do own a few Alembic and Steinberger L2 basses that I will be reviewing soon..
How about some reviews of other basses like ... JACKSON, B.C. RICH, How about an IBANEZ Destroyer or Iceman, or maybe an ARIA PRO II ? Fenders are quality no doubt but many others are just as good and not so old school looking...
Thanks for the reply, cool, you like more standard basses, I refer the "streamlined" p bass aproach of Jackson Concert Basses, for me its sort of like comparing a Mustang to a Ferrari..... faster, cooler, prettier doesn't have those huge paddles for tuners or that boat oar for a headstock, etc IMHO But then I mod everything, bridge nut pups so I am not a standard bass sort of guy, not into playing someone else's signature model, thats their thing so I make them mine,
That wrathchild riff was spot on

shawn humason Steve has always used flatwounds. Quite hard to believe given the bright sound he has, but them’s the facts!
One thing that can be said for the P Bass is that it's sound fits into any musical environment.
Not true I and many others who have played allot of rock n metal have found that the precision just just didnt cut it it some mixes!
Yes❤
Fantastic!! Sounds like roundwounds, my favorite!! It gives you the full sound of the bass IMHO:)
DR Hi-Beams.... 😀
@@jonathangroomsbassist …Thank you
@@jonathangroomsbassist I just bought a 73 P it should be here Friday:) it’s only 8.10lbs. Under 9lbs is great!!
Beautiful sounding bass, big fundamental tone warm and centered.
---It has the sound you hear in your head.---That's VERY cool Jonathan.---And that's all that matters most.---Gongrats !!!
Fantastic classic bass ! I would say that the P bass would have to be one of the most used and recorded basses in history , Another great video and thank you for sharing
Great bass, big fan of the P Basses with maple necks. Liked the Wrathschild lick, nice tribute to a great P Bass player.

Stunning bass! Which strings were you using at the time? I´m a huge fan of all sounds and configurations you can get from a precision bass.
Most likely DR Hi Beams .45-.105
Thank you man! Keep groovi´n
Great bass and video ! Does it have flat wounds or round wounds?
TheMightybasstone Roundwounds. DR Hi Beams.
She’s Beautiful
WOW! Sounds great man!!! Alder body?
I would believe so, yes.
I have a 73 maple neck as well. They called those trimline necks. The purists hate them. I love them. Not custom.
1:13 please never do that it scared me to hell
was that wrathchild riff at 1:30?
juliourquia yes. at least it was an attempt.... 😁
Alder body sir?

do you not like modern basses?

Basses I review are mostly, if not always, from my collection....I don't happen to own any Ibanez or BC Rich basses...
Got it, your more on the other side of the fence....
