    The Heyday turntable is actually manufactured by Leetac, the same company that makes the turntable mechanisms used in most all-in-one systems. (Intertek is just a company who tests products for electrical safety, like UL.)

      @@stirhaven1981 Since when does age have anything to do with reviewing a record player, anyway? A review is someone's opinion of a product. And that review, how they do or don't like it, has nothing to do with age.
      Besides--I like the fact that he's not 25 or so. It shows that he has experience that you simply don't have by the time you're 25 or so!

      that will break in, honestly youve got a really good starting point and the option to change your cartridge is like 90 percent of what makes a record player good. upgrade to a high end cartridge and stylus and youll have sound youd get from a turntable 4 times as expensive

    I think this turntable looks great. It's also one of very few machines that actually transmit Bluetooth instead of just receiving it. As you said, this does detract from the analogue nature of vinyl but the fact is it adds alot of convenience too. There is alot to like here especially at this price.

    • @johnhpalmer6098
      @johnhpalmer6098 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, it "might" look great, but to me it's garbage, judging by the bad tonearm bearings and the sound is quite thin. Mind you, I do run a budget table, but it's now over 30 years old, mid 80's to be exact and with a good cart on it and a good phono stage, it sounds better than it should, quite good in fact so it's build quality while not the best out there by a long shot, is not total garbage all together. Not impressed.

      @@Recordology My turntable is a Kenwood KD-12RB, made in 1985, is semi auto, runs a Grado Prestige Green 1 into a very good phono stage, the Muffsy PP4, the table cost my parents new that year $63 bucks, and it was on sale and was likely 65-70 retail. Today, it'd be the equivalent of $150, but back then, it is often made better than today's budget units.
      I still use it, has replaced the belt twice, but that was at least 16 years ago now.
      It's not perfect, but likely performs better than this thing you just showed.

    I now own this turntable and it has become my daily driver. Don't get me wrong, I love my AT-LP120 and use it when the occasion calls for it but as the one I keep out for average daily use it's this one. In fact, a neet detail that is not talked about enough by reviewers or the manufacture is that this turntable has a form of quartz lock with that plastic ring of fingers that are counted by the pick-up sensor they pass through just like an electronic speedometer or old school cruise control cars use to use. It makes for very reliable steady speeds of 33.3 and 45 RPMs. This turntable also has a very nice tone-arm assembly for its price range too!

    I bought one of these Wednesday and I have to say, I am very happy with it. I live in apartment so I can’t play music loud or late at night, but I do have a pair of Bluetooth headphones...the range on the Bluetooth of this record player is very impressive. It is better than my iPad. For anyone tat is looking for a record player, but doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on it, this is a great one. Built-in pre-amp, interchangeable/upgradeable cartridge, counter-balance, anti-skate, very soft dampening, auto-stop...you can’t go wrong. One of my biggest concerns was my cats jumping on a record that was playing. A lot of suitcase players or all-in-one systems don’t let you shut the lid while playing a 12” record or there is a gap in the back where the record sticks out. That would not be a good match with cat claws. Sure, a cat could jump on top of it while playing a record, but odds are, the stylus would skip. That could lead to damage to a record, but it’s still better than a cat knocking the stylus around while playing an album or getting their claws on a record....

    Based on your review I bought one, had to take it back it was a return, swapped it for a new one. Set up, the tonearm balances perfect, no clunkiness. Set it a 2.5 grams set the anti skating, connected to my Denon Avr 540bt, with 4 Numie BS5's a Numie CS 5 and Polk 10 inch sub. Started with Back In Black, now leavening to Chris Stapleton's Traveler. Sounds great. If you get one make sure it's new

    True story: I purchased this turntable about a year ago ago as I was on a continuing quest to recapture my youth. I was in search of and finding all of my vinyl from when I was a teen. I purchased this one because I was only now rediscovering vinyl and I was not going to throw down hundreds of dollars for some cork-sniffer approved turntable just so I could pride-sniff and say that I have a $500+ turntable. I’m just not at that point in my life anymore.
    So I had it for a few months and it performed better than I expected. I only had one other tt to compare it to and that was my friend’s ATLP120. Stop before I get deluged with cork-sniffing replies about the ATLP120 and how it is not the end-all of TTS. I’ll grant you that but doing an apples to apples comparison, a $100 TT against a $300 TT was a fair comparison. I will always grant you that a more expensive TT will probably sound better, the law of diminishing returns notwithstanding.
    I was happy enough with this heyday TT but I figured I wanted “more”. I searched for and found an almost exact copy of my childhood stereo which as it happened, had a functioning turntable. It was a Zenith IS4060. Again, no need for “yeah, that thing is a piece of crap and Crossley this and Crossley that”. I know guys, I know. So I purchased this “vintage” Zenith which of course I had to invest some money into because after all, it is 40 years old. Once I plopped down good cash for a new dust cover, changing the belts, re-lubricating it, new stylus and on and on, I had it in almost mint condition and my daughter got the heyday because apparently, vinyl is back according to teens. The heyday never failed to start, wobbled, skipped or did anything but sound good.
    Meanwhile I was happy with my “vintage” Zenith IS4060 which looks awesome and gets all kinds of compliments until one day it started emitting this awful screech after the automatic tone arm went back to the start position once the record was done playing. I got a sinking feeling in my gut, the kind you get when your car engine makes a never before heard noise and your mind spits out one word: “money”. I turned it off and on again but it was still screeching. I switched the function knob to radio and it was screeching there too. It wasn’t a feedback sound, it was more like the sounds of sand paper screeching across glass or nails on a chalkboard. Pretty awful. So thankfully it stopped after a few minutes of being off but then it started again. Long story short, it is back at the shop for more $.
    I should have known better. I once had a classic Mustang which I loved and it got all kinds of compliments probably by the same people who’d love my Zenith. But that car was in the shop more than it drove. It broke down constantly not because it was lemmon or because I didn’t take care of it, it was just old. Old things break down. Poorly made new things break down too, there’s no doubt about that but much less so than so-called “vintage” things. So lesson learned, again.
    This turntable, the Heyday is the “just right” turntable, especially if what you want is a tt that sounds good and you’re not concerned at all with “likes”.

Yes we all have budgets but I can't stand when there's something that cost $500 or less and people have to decipher and Pick-A-Part the best thing to do. Do I pay $300 for a turntable and then only have $200 to spend on vinyl or do I just say screw it I'm going to pay the full 500 and get a good turntable and I'll have plenty of time down the road to buy great vinyl. By the way things are going it looks like vinyl is going to be around for a long time buddy😊

  • @xaenon

    I'm really interested in this 'table. The only purpose for that slot on the plinth under the platter is for a speed-feedback loop, which is a strong indicator that this turntable probably has fairly accurate speed control. The major selling points for me are the provisions for a proper cartridge, the adjustable counterweight and anti-skating (assuming the AD dial isn't just for show), and that nice metal platter.
    I'm going to look into one right away. The Bluetooth, even though I won't use it much, is a nice feature that opens up quite a few possibilities. The feature set, particularly at the $100 price point, exceeds that of the vaunted Audio-Technica LP60.
    The really good news is that this thing, if it's as good as it appears to be, is going to light a fire under the asses of other manufacturers of entry-level audio equipment.

      Correct, Bluetooth compresses the audio which deletes inaudible frequencies, masked sounds, and repetitive data - depending on the bit rate of the compression (just like MP3) whereas a direct link gives you the entire analog waveform. Many people state that they can tell the difference.

    Other reviewers have mentioned off axis bearing mounts, poor machining of the platter, and very aggressive anti skate. All suggested using a stylus force scale and manual anti skate adjusting using a blank cd. A few mentioned the motor burning out after just a few months. For the same amount of money you can get a Stanton belt drive without bluetooth or cheap built in pre-amp. The only caveat is you need a spherical stylus on the Stanton due to the short tonearm.

    Doesn't look bad for the price. If I could get the turntable to run a bit flatter (it could be seen to rise and fall as it rotated), I'd be tempted to try it with a better arm (nothing too high-brow, just something with better bearing tolerance than what's fitted) but for $100 it looks ok.
    Myself I prefer to buy and use 70's decks but I know how to deal with them. Not everyone does and if you want to buy new with a warranty (not that there should be much need for one on such a simple device), it looks like you could do a lot worse at that price point.

    Got one of these brand new from some guy off of Facebook marketplace for $60. It’sa cool unit however I’m pretty unimpressed with the Cue Lever’s speed and smoothness of descent. Some of my vinyl isn’t precisely flat but still not badly warped and it seems to have a hell of a time not bouncing out of the groove upon lowering the needle into the start up groove without doing it by hand. Half the time it seems like it’s dropping, then it seems to halt for a split second, becomes low enough to engages in a the take up groove and then bounces out and skims 3 grooves ahead scratching its way across. Even after adjustments three separate times and re-setting it up entirely from scratch I’m pretty sure that the issue is that the cue lever is a giant piece of inconsistent hot garbage.
    Too bad too. It’s a great design and sounds awesome when it’s not attempting to ruin my records.
    Any suggestions or possible solutions on getting into that cue lever and fixing its smoothness or am I just damned to have to drop the needle by hand each time? You’d think if that’s what they intended they wouldn’t have made the cue lever position such a mess for someone who’s right handed to reach while handling the arm.😒

  • @stevesstuff1450

    I think that the Ortofon OM5E is not a particularly good match for that table:- it's designed for a low mass tonearm, or a medium mass using it's supplied weight. That table looks to have a low/medium mass arm with a very light-weight plastic headshell (offering no real stability for the Ortofon cartridge), plus, the Ortofon is a 'taller' cartridge than the supplied AT3600, which means that the cartridge now has the wrong Vertical Tracking Angle at the stylus. Also to note: that Ortofon is rated at an optimum tracking weight of 1.75grams - not 1.5 - so it's not tracking too securely, in a fly-weight headshell, on an light arm with loose arm bearings....not a good combination!!
    To review this table properly, it needs it's original AT3600 cartridge re-fitting and re-aligning, and set to 2-2.5 grams tracking weight... this cartridge will be a better match for that arm and will probably track better/less potential for skipping, as it presents a lower centre of gravity, and tracks a little heavier in this instance. That's why they chose that AT3600 cartridge to be fitted; not just because it's cheap, but because it can track records under very difficult conditions that other cartridges can't, and also because it just sounds so damn good, that it flatters a very mediocre turntable design, and makes it sound better than it should!!
    The Ortofon is good, but a very poor match for the arm in this deck, and I think you'll find that the AT3600 sounds better when set correctly...in this deck. And also in quite a few much more expensive turntables too!! There's a reason that companies such as Rega use them in their lower priced tables (not just 'cause they're cheap!! Plus they modify the stylus compliance to improve performance) but because they sound so good!!

    • @johnhpalmer6098
      @johnhpalmer6098 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Likely I bet it is a low mass arm, judging by the chintzy tonearm bearings it's plastic but looks like an old skool J style tonearm, when in fact it's nothing but a piece of crap as those originally has an SME style heashell and disconnect but that one appears to have been affixed to the arm and screwed into place (for ground possibly). so in essence, gold painted plastic is likely.
      It's the OM5E cart so budget at best.
      meh, there are loads better than this table.

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is probably the best bang for your buck for a manual tt. As I said in the video - the tonearm is metal.

    • @johnhpalmer6098
      @johnhpalmer6098 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Recordology while the arm TUBE is metal, the gimbal bearing is likely not and if I recall, didn't I see some slop in the arm bearing when you moved it?
      Low mass, medium mass etc is the total mass of the arm with headshell and that will determine the compliance of the cart's suspension and how well it'll play with the arm. heavy-ish arm may cause a high compliant cart to not perform at its best so in this case a low mass arm (lighter) can take a high compliant cart without issues being one example. There are charts for this, and a bearing that is tight, but yet moves freely will help the arm to perform better too.
