    My husband "discovered" Prescott as a hidden gem 7 years ago, sold everything he owned to move there with his RV, and could not afford anything but a trashy single-wide in PV, until we got married, and even then we realistically could not live in Prescott and still enjoy retirement, so we bought in nearby Chino Valley. If you move here from California, Washington, or Oregon, don't reveal that in casual conversation. That makes you "suspect. " LOL. That is also why we love it here! BEST weather, BEST part of Arizona (close to everything fun or interesting to visit.) But don't come here to buy, we are already full. Just come here to visit and spend your tourist dollars.

      There is ZERO limits on gobbling up land in PV and turning them into circle Ks or ghastly over 55 homes, shame on PV governance for not standing up to greedy developers, they are ruining that place!!!

    Very informative video. My girlfriend and I from Maryland totally enjoyed our visit to Prescott a few years ago,..and,...had considered it as a retirement ''maybe''.Unfortunately over the last few years, it has gone from mildly affordable,..to mostly unaffordable,.....to completely unaffordable (for us). Not anyone's fault,...like so many other areas that have been ''discovered'',...the more the prices go up, up,.....and up,......including Prescott and almost all of Arizona.

    Thank you so much. Just was in your lovely town last week as my son was visiting Embry-Riddle. His heart is set on going there. We only were able to spend about 6 hours in Prescott that day as we were staying in Tempe....so your videos have been extremely informative! We live in a small town in Northern California that also has a square downtown with a park surrounding it, and although he had wanted a big college and a city experience initially, he really did say Prescott "feels alot like home!"

    Moved to Prescott from LA, I drive a 2019 Lexus and only paid 400 for my registration. And if I remember correctly I paid 600 in LA
    If you live here you need Verizon
    The hardest part of moving to Prescott was losing the big town big city amenities. If shopping matters to you a lot to you..... You have to be okay with driving 2 hours to Scottsdale.
    The hiking is amazing though. I love that.
    Everywhere so far seems dog friendly.
    Weather is great.

    Prescott and the adjacent valleys are nice pleasant areas. It is always a pleasure visiting. Contemplated moving there many times. Have friends who have moved there. Engaged in many new home tours. Really like the Jasper community. Unfortunately homes prices keep increasing significantly. High demand low inventory.
    Still can’t get to the point to step away from So. Cal. Family, friends, and specific activities hold us back from leaving. We can step away from family and friends, but our activities are not accommodated in Prescott. For sure in Phoenix, except the beach, but too time consuming to drive from Prescott to Phoenix multiple times a week to participate in our interests. However, if CA keeps increasing taxes, and pushing extreme left politics, those issues will surely push us to make the move. Notwithstanding the drawbacks.
    Speaking of drawbacks, every state and city has its issues. Some more than others. It is just a matter of choosing a place where the good outweighs the bad, and adapting.
    In the meantime, we have a 2nd home in Cottonwood. A nice retreat with fine dining, outdoor activities, and close to Sedona. It is also close to Prescott, Jerome, and about the same distance to both Flagstaff and Phoenix. Our little Cottonwood is a growing city as well. Thus Home prices are shooting up there too.
    A funny side note. During the pandemic, we went to Prescott Costco for the timeframe dedicated for seniors. Thought we would get right in like here at home. Wrong. The line was about two blocks long. We left. It was like the entire city was there. Seems seniors are the majority in Prescott. So much for senior day advantages. 😂

    I love this video however, we have one of the worst rated Hospital systems in Arizona. I hope Banner Hospital actually builds something out here. The traffic used to be manageable but anytime from 8a-10pm you are pretty much in rush hour with both towns. They are active with cleaning up the roads but it seems like we need extensions. The drug issue and crime rate in Prescott Valley is definitely getting to be part of the norm. 😊 Definitely not the highest crime rate in Arizona though. The cost of living at the moment is not exactly great either. Prices are going up and pay is staying the same.

    My fam had a cabin above walked in that area and we have Verizon no problem at all ever anywhere with service. No spottiness. It depends on who you have carrier wise Verizon more expensive bit never have any problems. We live in Glendale Az Only problem is summer forest fire danger have had too many close calls. I lived up near thumb Butte fir a summer as an adult at a girl scout camp as a dishwasher glad I got to do that and my dad and step mom would come up each weekend and take me on my time off from the camp to go to our cabin as a kid I lived with mom dad and bro up there we moved several times first lived at cabin when had no running water, no indoor toilet just an outhouse, woid burning stove,bgit water out if rain barrel for water and bouked it on stove mom did, bro was still in mom and then no one fir fifty Mike's then nit now lots of people up there now. Dad went in to twin for fiud we were scared mom about to have my bro I' was only five was scared us dad going to make it back. He did barely Gid looked out for him and us he got back in a snowstorm in a motorcycle that has bags on it to store stuff. He made it back and then we got a rental home in town. I recall when we moved it was by thumb Butte in the mountain club. It was a cabin house with an open covered driveway. When we got there smiw real deep against mountain and dad had to carry us up it to our new rental like new new to us. Because we sank up to our armpits in it we were little well my bro no mom was holding him he was still a baby just new born. Bhe had cf cystic fibrosis and had to have treatments he lived til in his thirties heart gave out from it s a lung disease and it weakens your organs he was having fun though playing his fav sport baseball with friends. He came in from field caught breath went back out and boom heart attack. He died peacefully. My dad was a fireman and EMT thus was in the nineteen sixties when we lived up there. We moved back here to the valley cause mom got headaches from the wind. Dad also was doing part time real estate if he would have stayed there and ya he would have been making pretty good money. But we had to move it was hard we had to say goodbye to friends. I would like to move back up to Prescott someday when get money to. I'd like to have a acte or two so can garden. Would like to maybe have a small business selling my produce or just invest in one like the one in Dewey. That's a cool farm been there a couple of times in eat to our cabin for xirn and other stuff. When we lived up there it was very small and no big maljs no traffic and I recall going to the town center a lot for Christmas to see the lights and to get a tree at a lot across from it and going to swap meets. I hope you all are doing well with your real estate making good money it is good to do well these days so don't have to struggle anyways thanks for sharing.

    In summer we go up a lot to our cabin to escape heat and noise in winter it's hard to get up the mountain even though snow plows try to keep it clear it's a dirt road very bumpy still even though they snoothed it used to be worse. If no chains no get up it very steep.as a kid when we went up there to live for a couple weeks we made it slowly up that in a car we'd go up then slide back it felt like it took forever. Thus steep mountain is just above walked then we go down again to potato patch then up again we are on black life mountain. Anyways we go when it's safe too we always check to make sure in news no fires. Last year 2022was a bad one it came real close to potato patch and walker it was a bad one thank God it did not do anything to our community yo there that's our only way y get away can't afford a real vacation.

    This is a nice overview of Prescott. Too bad about the mall. Many of the mall stores seem to have closed super early, compared to other malls. I think that on-line shopping has killed off many malls. I visited a sporting goods store at another location in the early evening and had the whole place to myself. It was unreal. I don't know how retailers survive in Prescott.

    • @joevarga5982
      @joevarga5982 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@livinginprescott I was there yesterday and again today. I've never seen a mall with people playing sports inside like that. There's a second-hand store and another unit is a tribute to local firefighters (which was closed in the middle of the nay), TWO scale train stores, a tactical gear store, a crazy game place where I guess you pay to try to escape from rooms or something, a barber shop where your hair is cut in plain view of all the other shoppers, a nutty space-alien-themed pizza/hot dog place and a few other odd things I've never seen in a shopping mall. I think it's probably all too bizarre for most people.
      Half of the retail space is empty, including some enormous units just going to waste. I don't know how it pays to cool that enormous building with so few shoppers. I hear the power company was planning to cut off the power for unpaid bills a while back. There was really nothing of interest there to me except for food. I must say, the Asian food place is excellent.

    Your last point on "Patriotic" was very coded and under estimated the true situation. People fly US flags here, but other flags as well. Maybe you should have used "Conservative" with today's definition of that word. And there are some, albeit a minority, that do force their political opinions on others. I see it on bumper stickers everyday on SR 69. I guess you are trying to avoid politics, which I understand. The political climate here is definitely something one needs to know before they consider moving here.
    Another need to know is the Open Carry law in the state. Are you comfortable shopping at WalMart and having a stranger next to you in line with a .45 cal pistol on his/her hip? This can be a bit unnerving to some people moving here from other parts of the country where it is not allowed. Just need to know to expect this.
    A lack of medical care and doctors in the area is also a concern. Hopefully it improves.

    • @luperamos7307
      @luperamos7307 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for pointing this out. I have lived in areas like that before and do not think that flying a flag makes you particularly patriotic. I think caring for others in your community does. And I have found a lot of those people to be very narrow minded and not always very accepting of others.

    If you vote blue you might consider skipping this area and I am a strong RED voter. We were in Sedona last year and this couple from LA was going to look at a house there. My wife and I just looked at each other and smiled

      Prescott native here, former Sedona resident. Prescott and Yavapai County are very 'red' but Sedona is much less so. There is a strong and active progressive community as well, much of it centered around Prescott Indivisible. I'd compare Prescott to living in Texas or some parts of the deep south, perhaps a bit 'over the top' conservative but not entirely so.

      Here is the actual voting data from the 2020 election: the 3 Sedona voting precincts were +13, +16 and +23 in favor of Biden, and most precincts in the Verde Valley voted for Biden. The 5 voting precincts comprising Prescott were +6.6, +9.5, +14, +24 and +34 favoring Trump. Source: from raw voting results by precinct, "An Extremely Detailed Map of the 2020 Election" published by the New York Times. Obviously, scaring off prospective new residents of any political persuasion is a bad thing, Big Rigger.

      I live in an area of the country where there are not many LGBT people, and honestly, nobody seems to care. I think the only time anyone would really have a problem is if people come in and try to change the community. Otherwise it's live and let live.

      For some perspective, the AZ DOT website states how they make their calculation, and cites an example of a new $30,000 vehicle having a fee of about $500 for its first year. Subsequent years will have decreasing fees due to depreciation.
