THREE PHILOSOPHERS (OR FIVE!) AND THE MOST EXPENSIVE BEER ON THE CHANNEL SO FAR!

- The Beer Hunters spared no effort (or money) to bring to the channel one of the most iconic beers in the United States! It is THREE PHILOSOPHERS, a Quadrupel with a small addition of cherry in its 2011 version and is present in the book "1001 Beers to Taste Before You Die". It is produced by BREWERY OMMEGANG of Cooperstown, NY, founded in 1997 and this name (in Flemish or Dutch) means parade or procession and refers to a tradition dating back to 1549, when King Charles V (Holy Roman Empire) visited Brussels with a large entourage and was welcomed with a gigantic parade, which would be a rough translation of “Ommegang” that is repeated in the city to this day!
Located about 300 km north of New York, it has a bar with 20 taps that serves hundreds of people and tours of the brewery can be scheduled. It is the first “Farmhouse Brewery” (like the Belgian Saisons) in the USA.
Since the first brew (Abbey Dubbel in 1997), they now produce Farmhouse Ale (Saison), Amber Ale, Sour Ale, beers with promotional partnerships (i.e. Game of Thrones), organic IPA produced with original hops from the State of NY and our star of the night, among others:
Belgian Quadrupel THREE PHILOSOPHERS (a tribute to the three greatest thinkers of Antiquity: Socrates, Plato and Aristotle) - 9.7% ABV - the channel’s biggest acquisition (USD 100 for a 750 ml bottle from 2011). It is probably one of the last examples available in the world.
Ommegang is American, but considers itself to have roots in Belgium, thousands of miles away, so the label of THREE PHILOSOPHERS has a reference to Duvel. Their labels are strongly based on Belgian recipes and sometimes they are enhanced by adding local ingredients, always with the aim of improving the product without losing its original essence.

@@eduardovellego Há 400 anos quase a parada foi essa, pois em maio de 1624, os Holandeses chegaram lá (antes de irem para Pernambuco). A presença holandesa levou algumas cervejas para o nordeste, quebrando o paradigma da cachaça e do vinho no Brasil Colônia (esquecendo das beberagens indígenas exemplificadas com o cauim). (Risos)
