A hamster in a ball makes more sense, since hamsters already are tied to balls when we think about them. The character becomes more interesting since it's something that we can recognise and the backstory that they made for him it's pretty convincing

Actually in an interview, Jeff actually talked about Mama Hong being added to the game.

That isn't what they said at all. "Jetpack cat" was too far beyond the scope of Overwatch -- not all animals.
I think the reason they held off on Hammond or a Hero like him is because they wanted to get a feel for what the audience would enjoy before releasing something that could hurt the popularity of the game in it's earlier stages. People seemed to really like Winston from the beginning, so it was pretty easy to keep him around. Not to mention, he really isn't in the same league as Hammond, in my opinion. Hammond seemed more campy and cartoony when he was first announced as opposed to how Winston seems. Idk. These are just my personal thoughts on the matter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On my feed 6y later. It’s so crazy to see what this game started as, and what it used to be. I started playing in s4 of ow2, so this was very enlightening for me.
I started playing during the Overwatch 1 beta on PS4 & I have been playing ever since & it still amazes me looking at the early stages of OW

Hey! When going forward, here's some game design vocab you might want to include:
- you mention the floor "Spazzing out", this is called Z-fighting! it occurs when two planes are fighting over the same space and the engine can't decide which one should be on top
-you also mention tracer's "white squares" - these are called particles! so it was a particle placeholder they were using.
Recluse could be the junkertown queen. The art here and the posters in junkertown look similar and her having a mech in the concept are could be the mech that she would fight with in the junkertown arena
