There's a reason people don't make horns our of wood. They resonate, they create their own frequencies which are not part of the music, and when they vibrate they also dampen other frequencies. "Tone wood" is not a good thing in an audio system. The pretty looks are selling the equipment but it doesn't make sense. You don't have to MINE a turntable. Mass is what''s important. Making it out of metal is fine, the expense of getting it out of a quarry is completely unnecessary.

They are not trying to sell to people that can't afford them. They already know before they even started to mfg. audio equipment that it is LIMITED production and it's only catering to those that can afford them. Why are you lashing out on a company that makes a product that's priced for a small group of people? They are obviously more than you can afford. So move along. They use some fo the most expensive components. Their drivers for the mid range and lower midrange horns are in the $17K to $20K for a pair of just the drivers. That's THEIR cost. And of course there is mark up. They have speakers that they are only going to make a specific number of pairs and that's it. Here's the issue, based on my rough calculations, just to mfg. one pair of speakers, it would not surprise me that the component costs, plus labor is around $70K to $100K to make one pair of these $285K speakers. In the realm of audio speakers. That's only about a 3 to 4x markup. Do you know how much it costs to make a pair of $6000 Klipschhorns? About $500 in components, plus labor. In order for a company to stay in business,, they have to have markup. It's how they pay the bills. Now, to pay engineers money to design them, it takes several years, many prototypes that aren't sellable, and it can cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars and several years to make the first sellable pair. Yes, they are expensive, but they are what they are. Do you know how much it costs for a typical Asian company to make a pair of speaker that sell for $100 MSRP? About $10 to $15, with labor. I really have to bet to differ here. Good sound or music is only as good or as realistic as the source. You cannot sit there and tell me that some audio equipment (no matter how much it cost) will never sound as good as the real thing. I've had the opportunity to hear the Houston Symphony at both the Allen Theatre and at a high school of which had very well engineered acoustics. Being in the larger room (the Allen theatre) the symphony sounded great, however in the high school auditorium they sounded the best I've ever heard any music reproduced. I was blown away at how amazing and just how loud or quiet the symphony could be. No equipment in the world can make sound like the real thing. Oh and BTW, if you are going to charge these extremely outrageous prices, please get folks who take more pride in their work. That soldering and wiring work leaves much to be desired.
Anyone knows of any measurements done on these , make no mistake they look wonderful but sound dreadful . You cant just put horns all over the place willy nilly, mix them with woofers that are not horns , you hear that difference it wont blend , like oil and water , cant mix it . And if you dont put all the drivers in one place you lose time alignment, you lose stereo image , there is no way to prevent that other that going further from the speaker so that the angles of coming sound are made smaller . Some of these designs are such to be listened from 50m away in order to sound good , and then off with the efficiency , even if you have that space and you might have . Its just wrong , and measurement's will show that , will show everything .Taht is why i would like to see those
A cone is not a good shape for propagation of (musical) sound waves, and for bass and sub bass the driver should be loaded in a pipe that is of the correct diameter and acoustically damped at the appropriate locations --- those huge length cathedral organ pipes don't require damping because they play only one frequency
These products are not about accurate reproduction. They have more to do with creating conversations at dinner parties and stuff. At that price he doesn't have to find many idiots to turn a profit
They are using sound principals of audio equipment design that stems back from the 1930's from companies like RCA when they made extremely efficient speaker and amp designs that don't require huge amounts of power to produce a high quality sound for a large room. It's not snake oil at all. They are just doing some modern approach to a tried and true method of sound reproduction. Their drivers are amongst the best produced. It's just that the average person doesn't have a big enough room for these types of systems due to the large horns they are using. That's why these types of systems aren't common place in most homes. They project the sound a long distance. But horn based speakers have been around for a long time and are still used. They are just using a conical shaped horn which are larger than the average room can handle. But wealthy people that might be these have big homes with large rooms to filll. In some ways, it's a lot easier using these than other large speaker systems that require HUGE power amps that cost a fortune, even more expensive and ultra heavy. They aren't for everyone, but it's definitely not snake oil. You just don't understand what they are doing, that's all.
You're jaded man! Stop listening to iPod! I've Wilson Whitt puppies that I will upgrade to Alexandria. Until u listen to a proper loudspeaker u will be blissfully in ignorance. Buy a proper system and start living
This is extremely expensive snake oil, and horns are not the best and listen to music, but they have a fun character, but tiring to listen to. Otherwise, I have mostly been most impressed by System Audio, and they have been producing speakers for over 30 years with a bunch of audio entustiasts, so they know what it's all about.
Big sound. But not musically engaging. The sound is all attack, but lacks sustain. Put a vocal on like the Tallis scholars and it will sound terrible. Sounds like its strength is with large scale brass band music. If you want to spend ridiculous money on high end, I would recommend Kondo Japan. Just my thaughts.
There's a certain level of contrived snoberry that resonates from the vocal horns of greedy marketing clowns, and it's really hard to hide their emotionally detached sales pomp, and an obvious lack of belief in their own products. I say hire a better sales actor to sell all that genuine audiophiles don't want, need, and or desire.
Love the speakers, but hate the shitty type of music that require these speakers to be appreciated. Thats why most people who dont listen to this type of music will never consider spending such outrageous money
This is shitty music, Stravinsky? Open up your ears, maybe ease into or something, this is great stuff, and you really have to hear this part in context. It's part of a story, there's a narration, it's a soldier's tale, by himself, walking, so the music is semi-military, he's trudging, it's semi-folk music. If you don't know what's happening you probably won't get it. It's for a very small and unusual group of instruments so you really do hear detail.

Remember what Dirty Harry call opinions?
"a megophone is a clear rendition of your voice " now thats exactly how horn speakers sound , terrible !
i whish
"like a religious experience"....like being in a cult or like talking to God?
For 300.000$ it must be good sound. Hahaha. Buy a new headshell for your thorens. Or don't you have $$$$$.
If Weiss weren’t so insufferable and such a jerk, he would be a lot more successful.
can we play Drake songs,in there? 😂
with that money for that fucking speaker, i could hire an orchestra to play all the silly classical songs i could ever want,
Gucci Gang Gucci Gang
mmm the stravinsky sounds terrible
what you don't make your own tubes what the f@@k
He doesn't sound like such an A-hole 9-10 years ago,as he does now.
He mentions listener fatigue, nothing is more fatiguing than multiple horns with compression drivers! Big and loud for that much money no thanks!
Why do these music buffs always play crap music when demonstrating over the top Fucking Expensive equipment😛
Bullshit get some ATCs
what a load of garbage, id rather use blown 6x9's than have gutless 20 ft horns, that cost as much as a house
Jew
ugly design but does the sound worth it?
'i want other people to have that experience' is that why you charge hundreds of thousands of dollars for one of your speakers
Well polished sales pitch..religious experience ? Transform people ? Missed your calling dude..shoulda become a TV Evangelist..
nonsense
its a shame that for such an amazing ability to reproduce sound - you play that awful music
