I live 25 SE of Asheville NC. Today it was announced $27 million has been paid out to date by FEMA. I see copters flying they are making water and food drops where victims are stranded in the backroads, hallars, mountains, Duke Energy repair trucks equipment, Water and food distribution all over. I've seen trucks with men from Canada, Maryland etc... I see Red Cross vans, chairities and churches are providing food water clothes and many places are holding cookouts even the Chevy Dealer held a big all day cookout free food, etc... Asheville still without water and electric in many locations because the transmission centers and treatment centers were and still under water and must be rebuilt. It still is catastrophic is some locations Marshall, Madison County; Spruce Pine (the Crystal Mines ), Chimney Rock and Lake Lure , Rutherford County; Asheville is devastated like a war zone, My area, Hendersonville is coming back with stores, groceries, restaurants, gas , schools are closed all over indefinitely. My Allergist Doctor's office flooded with 4ft of water. Other medical offices are slowly coming back if they weren't flooded. All of Western NC is catastrophic.

I had a 2% loan in 1983 and I realize how lucky I was. I could pay off my loans within 3 yrs Now I went to a state school, did work/study program and had some grants - so my bill was smaller. I wish these schools would offer 2% loans, and trim some of the upper management salaries and golden parachutes (yes they do golden parachutes for college presidents)!
