Possibly the most boring Strauss 1 I've heard in a while! Technically very solid, but he played this movement without a soul.

I'm quite familiar with this piece and understand what you are saying. However, I found it sounded better, somehow, if I was only listening and not watching. This performer has a resting facial expression that looks like HE is bored (although he probably isn't). It sort of looks like he wants to get this over with and wants to be somewhere else. But if watch the orchestra, they seem the same. Very stone faced and mechanical. At the other extreme are soloists and orchestra members who bob and weave and writhe ridiculously. There must be something in between where people can show they enjoy what they are doing.
