    I remember watching someone free skate on TH-cam as a middle school kid who then went online to buy my first pair. I have so much fun with it the whole summer. Sadly I grow up and moved away from home and left those behind. It’s brings so much happiness and nostalgia to see them make a comeback. 😊

    if you just started freeskating, and get your first roll alongs in your regular stance, give switch a little go. It will will feel horrible, but it will help with riding regular (it will will feel so much easier once you tried switch), and it will help a lot in the later stages with other tricks
    you may need a wall / fence to push along switch, it's hard and totally strange in the beginning - and you don't have to over do it, just give your feet and brain a little teaser whats to come
    my biggest problem at the start was my weak foot (left in my case, backfoot) - I learned to ride switch way too late, my dominant foot became better and better at freeskating in the first few days/weeks, whilst my left foot just was there for the ride...which made learning to ride switch so much harder in the end - the earlier your weak foot catches up to your strong one, the earlier you will ride switch, and thats where all the fun really begins!
    keep them detailed tutorials coming, they really will help !

    Coming back to this video 5 months after I got my free skates, I love them, they are awesome!
    Learning curve is steep but very rewarding, let your muscles adapt and get stronger and progress will come! The first time I pumped halfway proper felt amazing :D
    Could you guys do a powerslide tutorial, I found myself in situations where normal slowing down was always a bit too risky and I had to walk or jump off my skates..

    Having learned a unicycle I expected this wouldn't possibly be as painful to learn but then you showed those splits lol. I'll find out soon if I have that problem but I expect freeskates to be way better long-term than the unicycle so I wish I had found these years ago.

    I really want to learn how to free skate, but I have a question... How do you make sure that you aren’t turning if you’re trying to pump? I really want free skates... They look so cool! Parents are worried about my safety tho...😿

    • @Fire6
      @Fire6 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      With a bit of pratice you will not have this problem..
      Freeskating is not that dangerous when you learn how to ride, but wearing gear is better!

    • @jmkride
      @jmkride  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To pump, you rotate your feet and split your legs apart. To turn, you rotate your feet and keep them behind each other, so that the back foot follows directly behind the front foot (Jeff talks about this in the video). FireSix is right, just make sure you're wearing proper protective gear! Especially under adult supervision, you'll be just fine 👍

  • @carlcarlssen4299

    Hey mate. I'm more into unicycling but I sometimes used skating to spice things up and help develop other muscles,etc. Regular skateboards and long boards werent cutting it for me, in terms of challenging my balance. So I discovered the shark attack board and the ripsurf. Those two were great and love them. Then I spotted these and was like, this has to be more challenging. I picked up a generic cheap pair from Amazon. Tried them for first time yesterday and I did get it down the mounting technique and really love the challenge on these. Truly love them. The simplicity of being so light way, can put them in my back pockets and pull 'em out randomly and cruise is an awesome thing man. Question, I checked your page out. Are the ones you guys make really better quality, interms of bearings also, than a cheap version from Amazon? I wouldnt mind at all shelling the money you charge for them because they look legit on your page. Thanks for being into this and manufacturing these brother!

    • @citrus_sweet
      @citrus_sweet ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely buy theirs over the Amazon ones. I started off on the knock offs (like a lot of other freeliners) before switching and it's decent for building the necessary muscles before actually getting into the legitimate JMKs but the knockoffs are awful for technique (square wheels makes it harder) or speed (they have worse bearings). You'll immediately feel the difference and it's definitely an investment you won't regret.

    I just got my freeskates yesterday. I've only been able to practice in my living room because it's been raining the past two days and I've been trying to get myself going by pushing off a wall and trying to get the pumping motion. Is it common for your back foot to want to do all the "pumping"? I can't seem to get my front foot going in that S motion as easily

    • @jmkride
      @jmkride  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cathy! Yes, that’s totally normal. One thing you could try is solely using your front skate and scooting around your living room with little hops. While you’re doing this, try rotating your foot left and right to turn yourself.
      I’ll also say, props to you for getting right into it even though it’s raining! Once you have a nice decline it should be a lot easier to focus on the motion. Hope this helps!

    I wanted to mention that the goofy abs regular things are reversed, goofy skaters have their power foot in the back, while regular skaters have their right skate in the back, how you would stand on a rip-stick applys here

    • @jmkride
      @jmkride  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you mean by power foot, but on freeskates, both feet are powering the motion equally! Just as on a skateboard, regular means your left foot is in front, while goofy means your right foot is in front 👍

    Any tips for preventing big toe pain for beginners? My big toe hurts because of push offs or balancing on it prior to push off. I tried balancing on left foot for setting my feet to relieve right toe pain but now both my big toes hurt. I've seen how you advanced guys can start on one skate and throw the second skate down but obviously I'm a while away from doing that kind of mounting.

      Not exactly, more similar to snake boarding! Freeskates take moving trucks out of the equation, and rather rely on your ankles for rotation. Toes in, toes out, rather than toe/heel lean! Hope that helps

    I got a pair of some cheap skates off of amazon (not jmk) and I was wondering what the cardboard spacer was on these jmks and if that was something that is needed for these? does there need to be a slight gap between the plates and the trucks in order for these to work effectively or do i just need more practice lol. Thank you in advance!

    Any advice on riding a little over a mile? My goal is to be able to commute more on my freeskates to and from work but I’ve run into an issue. My legs get exhausted and it’s hard to keep my knees bent when they are exhausted. I just got home from working riding them & I think what may have been my issue is my footing and not setting mini goals like being able to get from one spot to another and gradually build off that. Each time I attempt to use my freeskates I try to go straight for the long commute as my time to practice

    Question: I’ve been learning how to skate for about a week, and I figured out that I’m more comfortable with my left foot forward even if my right one is prominent. Do I need to correct this? Thanks!

      Do whatever is most comfortable for you. Many people ride opposite of what they would think. Eventually you will want to learn both ways, but to begin it's all about how you're most comfortable.
