The Mission: To save a stripped out and forgotten D-Day Airplane from the Scrapyard and get her flying for the 75th anniversary of D-Day (June 6th, 2019).
The Timeframe: We have only 6 months to get the DC-3 flying.
The Reason: This airplane is only a handful left in the world that actually flew on D-Day. We are getting her flying in the memory of people who lost their lives that day, June 6th, 1944.
The Cost: Everything we have.

I notice the old man, still likes multiengine airplanes lol 13 years working as an A&P in Alaska made a believer out of me in regards to multiengine machines. The Alaskan aircraft slogan goes "Two engines are acceptable" "Three engines are better" "and four is optimum"

Mikey, the CARs say "if an aircraft marked CF followed by three letters is repainted, the Mark's must be changed the C-F (followed by the three letters), unless the aircraft is a vintage aircraft."

Exciting times for Plane Savers and like many will be looking forward to the new registration letters that no doubt will reflect PS's involvement in the project,I think this is a good move to place a line under the aircrafts last identity letters because as you say Mikey it could easily have been the end of the line for the old lady.
Canadian CF- format registrations can only be used on historic aircraft these days the change to C-F came about because the blocks were quickly filling up so the interim C=F was used until C-G came into place.
Love the Night Fright progress report with all of that parts detailing taking place at Coventry,they have a good team.
Cannot wait each day for the Plane Savers episode, great work on "Night Fright" a lot of work left though.

The letters D DAY worked into the name would be awesome. CF-DDAY or something like that. Another great job cool video!
From my experience CF- vs C-F The switch is required when the plane gets painted, my plane is CF-xxx and TC advised me when I paint it it must be switched to C-Fxxx. They want them all to be the newer way in my understanding but aren’t forcing anyone till they refinish the exterior. I may be slightly off but that’s how TC explained it to me.
gary wheeler that’s what I’ve heard as well. I have a Canadian customer who has a Cherokee that he won’t repaint specifically for that reason. Nostalgia I guess.

Transport added the G series registrations and required that all existing CF registrations change to C-FXXX after being repainted.

I've put some more thought into the registration of the Dakota, to honour the man behind all this. C-JMCB. I thought of using the initial of Joe's real name but few people would catch that.
Hi Mikey new name for DTD....Spirit Of Buffalo Aw naturally a little buffalo image under the captain window....and registration C-SOBA (C for Canada - S as Spirit, O for Of, B for Buffalo and A for Airways )
Accounting for a country's entire aviation future and history, the DOT foresaw running out of ident assignments under the old scheme as only 17,576 were available, not counting inappropriate ones. Also, other countries were using single letter prefixes. (ie) United States - N, Germany - D, UK -G etc.

Almost 3 years later and Night Fright is still not assembled. Last I saw they were re skinning the wings in August of 2021 and getting ready for paint. I hope to see her get finished and in the air again. I really thought that Night Fright would be done WAY before DTD was.

The reason they went from CF-XXX is TC Aircraft Registry was running out of "letters." In early 70s, the C172 I was renting was CF-ZWZ. Therefore TC needed more combinations so they went to a 4 letter registry using the next letter of the alphabet which was "G"; C-GXXX. With the new standard; C=country code and a 4 letter identification, the aircrafts registered CF-XXX became C-FXXX. I assume once the Aircraft Registry runs out of "G" it will go to "H"; C-HXXX.

Well Mikey, you sure know how to keep us all paitently lined up and standing at the cliffs edge! Although somewhat frustrating I fully understand your reluctance to divulge your choices at this point in time. However, I thoroughly enjoyed your explanation of the planes history so far, which leads me to to ask a question. If it has no recognised identity other that it's military service, can it be registered as a C-47? That would take it back to being a real D-Day warbird again. Either way, if it's a 47 or a 3, I'm with you, it will be exciting to see it get another new start in life. And doing it with YOU giving it YOUR choice of identity will start a whole new chapter to add to this planes long and rich history. Unlike others here, I will stop short of giving my opinions of a registered mark, it should be your choice and yours alone in my humble opinion. Also great to see Night Fright progressing, as well as the Dutch plane saver. But what a lovely sight to see that lad who built his own DC-3... He is a 🌟 a super 🌟!
It has been converted to a DC-3C to make it a C-47 it would have to be unconverted and I would have to prove it (it hasn’t).

This is a Wiki page on 'Invasion stripes,' when, where, all dimensions, etc. (see 'two engine planes) Hopefully you'll find a water based paint that doesn't dry cured, like latex does. They were removed at the end of 1944. At forward bases in France, they removed just the top stripes pretty quickly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_stripes
