There's an old saying 'if you want something done ask a busy person'! I've worked while my kids were growing up - fortunately only after they went to school and only part time - but I had a friend who had never gone back to work after having her kids and she was always 'too busy' to help out with things at Church etc. It was really because she gave herself all day to do things and was such a perfectionist rather than really being busy at all. There's also a poem I love called "Dust if you must'' and it kind of sums up my philosophy on housework and life in general. Dust if you must, but wouldn’t it be better To paint a picture, or write a letter, Bake a cake, or plant a seed; Ponder the difference between want and need? Dust if you must, but there’s not much time, With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb; Music to hear, and books to read; Friends to cherish, and life to lead. Dust if you must, but the world’s out there With the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair; A flutter of snow, a shower of rain, This day will not come around again. Dust if you must, but bear in mind, Old age will come and it’s not kind. And when you go (and go you must) You, yourself, will make more dust. Rose Milligan
Love the poem, but there does come the time we MUST dust! Because dust contains allergens. I deep-cleaned my parents' bedroom after 10 years of neglect, and the dust was awful and sad. The room felt so much airier and pleasant after. Spring and Fall cleaning at least, people!
I was exactly like you when I was a young mom. Then I had several injuries and developed chronic pain. I had to make some hard choices, because I could no longer keep up the same pace. For years I felt guilty for letting certain things go; but my husband encouraged me to pace myself. If I push too hard, I get very little accomplished and end up in a flare that can last several days. If I pace myself, I can get a lot more done multiple days in a row. It was a learning process that involved learning to listen to my body. I also had to learn to stop being such a perfectionist.
I definitely go back in my planner and write things down that I did during the day that I didn’t write down before I did them just to check it off! I thought I was the only one that did that😅😅
I love that you talked about our homes being our work place. It is so important to have “work” time and “down” time. It is especially important to those that find themselves at home more due to Covid
I just found your channel this week and I’ve been bingeing it for the last few days. Funnily enough beside having almost the same age, we don’t have anything in common. I am Brazilian, I live in Rio. I am atheist, I’ve never heard of mennonites before(because of you I found that there’s a Mennonite community here that I wouldn’t know if it wasn’t for this channel), don’t want to have kids or get married. I have some very different world views from you, but still here I am :) Happily enjoying your content! :) Thank you for the work you put on those videos. It’s all very well done and though out. Be proud of the community you’ve created here. You’re doing amazing. Congrats on the lovely family :) Love from Brazil! :) ❤️
Kind of the same shoes here; I have little in common with her except that I love dresses. I have learned more from her than any other person with just habits, etc. I swear I have changed so much. I also watch a Hutterite girl who is like 24? LOL. I love both of them. She is Giselle Waldner. She is single and they work in a group and it's fascinating and refreshing. I absolutely love this Megan! I'm a mom of six, a pastor's wife and I'm getting ready to start our next homeschool year. Definitely a time of my life when I need to live very intentionally leaning on the Lord and following him, not getting distracted with things that really don't have eternal value.
I was married for 25 years and we were never able to have children. My husband died in an accident when I was 51. A few years later I met a man my age with a 9 year old daughter. I had never parented before. That sweet girl will be 15 next month and I turned 58 today. Additionally, I care for my 92 year old mother. I went from working in hospital administration to suddenly being a mom and caretaker. While I wouldn't change my life for anything, it was a struggle at first. I have found that watching your videos as well as another young Mennonite girl has taught me to do the mundane tasks in life with a loving heart. If I just slow down and do things out of love, it feels wonderful. Thank you for the glimpse into your life.
Megan i love you and your sweet family!! I am a born again 64 yr old retired nurse, married 40 years to a Godly man, 4 children, 5 awesome grands. Oh how i wish these videos would have been available when i was a young wife and mama. I never miss your newer videos because i just found your vlog. You and your family have found your way into my prayers. Keep it up, girl! You areawesome!!
I love what you said about saying yes to something means you’re saying no to something else. That is such a great perspective. I’m going to write that down as a reminder, for sure.
I have been binge watching your videos and I can say you make me want to be a Mennonite! Your laughter is so unique and infectious. Thanks for sharing your life with us without imposing your values on us.
This is really great advice. I’m a Momma to 3 busy girls and all of this has been so incredibly true for us. We can take ownership of our circumstances and not miss the joy of this season. Thanks for sharing!
I had been waking up whenever the first child woke up for the day since having my last baby over a year ago because she never slept well in the night. Then just recently I started getting up at 5:30 before the kids and my days have just been so much better. Just that little bit of alone time to start my day gives me a better mindset and increases my ability to be productive 1000%.
Thank you for this! I’m past my mothering days but your words are exactly what I needed to heard. I have five grandkids and so much of your advice fits into my life too. Thank you again.
Megan, you are such an example to all the young moms out there. We all want to be like you "when we grow up". Such an inspiration. God has blessed you with so much energy and motivation! You've definitely encouraged me to "waste" less time in my day, and keep my productivity up! And it definitely feels good to be busy and doing the right things! Thank you for always sharing videos that are such an inspiration to other women.
Hi Megan, this video was just great. You gave so many down to earth time saving tips for moms and others. There was much we could take away. Thank you. This was a fun collab. I always enjoy it.
My husband was always supportive of helping me find ways to save time to be a better wife and mom. We love left overs! I only cooked a big breakfast on Saturday mornings when we were all home together in the morning. I cooked ahead for the weekdays and cooked dinners on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Sleep is so key. I was so against any form of sleep training for my first and now I've seen how much it benefits our ENTIRE family. If mom isn't rested and healthy it makes everything so much harder. New subscriber, thank you for sharing the Glory of God in this space.
Two life changing tips that I got from Megan are is to do a little laundry everyday. We do it M - F. The other one is to decide what's for dinner in the morning before we are tired at the end of the day. Sometimes I meal plan weekly but most often it's a morning decision. I'm not a mom with small children anymore - just my husband and I, but these tips helped a lot.
LOVE all your videos, Megan! So honored to be part of Dawn's collab with you! My favorite takeaway from your video was that you're more likely to be a "bad mom" when you're rushed. My husband and I were literally just talking about that yesterday and how we need to protect our kids from the crabby, rushing parents that result from us saying yes to too much! I am SO motivated to say no to anything that's not a "heck yes" knowing that the cost for my children is high (as I'm trying to do all the packing or coordinating and make sure we're out the door on time, and not able to be as patient or calm with them.)
This is a excellent video. I’m a 71 yr old grandmother and caregiver of my 94 year mother in law. My friends say you are so busy all the time. This helps me be more productive at home. I have to get certain things done in a timely matter so I can go swimming 2 times a week. I plan things so I don’t have all day to get a simple task done. I have to make my time intentional like you said. Some days I goof off some but get right back on track the next day. Like I said before great video
Honestly- I thought this was one of your least chatty vids!! It was all super helpful, super important, practical wisdom and tips to not let life just pass you by! To work with your hands and serve as unto the Lord and not just fall into idleness, but also giving yourself grace. You had a lot of great wisdom to share! 💜💙
Great video! As for me… my kids weren’t great sleepers…. My son was the hardest…. SO…. I just learned to lower my expectations. Now that they are past the baby stage (4 &2), I now have more energy! Also… love the Minimal Mom too… between you two I am gathering such good tips for home life!! Keep up the great work!
Well said! I appreciate your direct tips! These things are true and need to be said. I agree that I waste more time when I have the day to myself. I need to focus on time blocking and getting more done.
Wow, I am past the time in my life where I have to worry about kids. But I just wanted to say, I wish I had heard all this about 35 years ago. Oh man Megan , you pinned me down on almost every point. I had to learn the hard way. I was very hard on myself. I always thought I was a bad mother because everything didn’t get done. But I learned and now at 68 , I am doing much better. I t toke a lot of pray and work. But you are right , is much easier when you are organized. I still make list , do wash almost every day, and make big batches of certain foods & freeze them. And I can sit down and NOT feel guilty. Sometimes I have trouble with that. A we eat leftovers all the time. So thank you for sharing your tips. They were a good reminder.(I do watch my grandkids sometimes, so I still need those tips. Your a great mom, wife, and friend.
I so enjoy your channel even if I don't have young children anymore. I watch all your videos, some things apply, some don't, but I just enjoy your content.
You are "knocking it out of the park". A great video, no apologies, intentional in the very best way ... You are so good at this and it makes me feel so proud of you and so proud of myself for recognizing and being drawn to your videos ...
The bottom of the stairs! Yes! My husband asked about that and we ended up seeing a comedian who said something about he thought it was an odd place for his wife to store something (bottom step) but he didn't mind jumping over it (then to add to the effect he jumped on stage lol), he didn't realize that she wanted the item carried upstairs! LOL!
Yes to treating homemaking like a 9-5. When I was single, I wouldn’t sit down after work until 7pm. That way I got food made and cleaned up, things tidied up and chores done before I got lazy after work.
Thank you for this video! I agree that when I’m rushing I am NOT my best Mom-self...in fact I’m typically being a bad Mom and just cranky at my kiddos. I need to allot for more time getting out the door or come up with a better system that works. Thanks again!
Love this Megan! The last tip - when you say yes to something you say no to something - Opportunity Cost :) Saying yes to something is costing you from saying yes to something else. Is what you're saying yes to worth MORE than what you are saying no to? Its only a question you can answer yourself. Love your videos and your authentic self!!!
We are so alike in this!!! Each of these is something the Lord had already led me to implement over the past year, and it was so encouraging to hear you share them!!
Every single tip was a nugget of wisdom! No filler whatsoever! Loved this so much Megan!! Thank you! 💕💕 P.s. I'm inspired by your style (fashion and decor) x
The basket tip for moving items that need to go up or down the stairs ...🤯. Such a pain point for me with a 2-year-old that likes to relocate random things all the time. Definitely getting myself a couple of baskets to do this. Thanks for a such a fun and motivational video!!
100%, I write down things I have done to check off:) For me it is my analytical mind and wanting to use the past to plan. I know what I did, so I have a better idea of what I can do in the future!! :) Love your channel - thanks for the great content. I share your Christian beliefs, but have a very different life in corporate America - single and in my 40s and a partner in a large firm... sometimes your path takes you an unexpected way! Although I will say, after Covid especially, there are no shifts in management in Corporate America left:) In the technology firm where I work I have meetings that span working hours from California to Bangalore - daily!! Your advice of being intentional is relevant to so many, and thank you for the reminder to all of us!
Yes, yes, I have been doing the "put the chore on my to-do list after completing, then cross it off" for many years. I'm a grandma now, and still do it. 👍 Yay, for feeling good at getting things accomplished! Love your channel, Megan! ❤️
my kids are all grown up with families of their own almost grown too now but I remember those days too. I look back and winder how I did it all I didn't work outside of the house while my kids were still in school.
I enjoyed this video so much!! I'm always looking for new ideas for productivity! When my children were young I always thought when they were grown I would have all the time in the world, and I'm still struggling with time management, lol! Thanks for all the tips, heading to check out the other channels as well!
Oh my word... I have a kitchen, dining, living room that is open concept so those are my main areas to keep clean. I also watch TH-cam (today it was you) while i fold laundry! 😂 I needed this today... I have felt like I just can't keep up lately, I have a 15 month old and I am 32 weeks pregnant. When I am on my feet I start to swell really bad so I am not able to do as much as I was a month ago. My husband is so sweet and understanding but I feel so bad. I try to manage my time but some days there's just nothing left in me... Thanks for your videos, I love watching and you are encouraging. 🦋
Not sure if this will help, but if I eat watermelon or asparagus, it helps with swelling. I have it in one ankle where I broke it. Just one side, but turmeric or those foods helps with the water. Also, put a bean bag, yes a kids bean bag on your bed so you can prop your feet up and get that swelling of those ankles. xoxo
Thank you Megan! I feel so motivated try some of your tips. I've been so down lately trying to find ways..feeling so defeated. I saved your video. Thank you.❤️
If will be asking myself the question. "If I say YES to this, what am I saying NO to later. I have trouble making decisions, this will be life changing.Thank you, Megan
One tip that helps me is if there's a task on whatever to do list I have doesn't end up getting done, I put it on an unfinished tasks list. I then sit down at the end of the day and figure out another day I can do said task. Just because I didn't get a certain task done, doesn't make me a horrible person.
These tips are AMAZING! Just recently I've been finding my footing with homemaking since I work from home now (I'm 24 and got married a few years ago. No kids yet but hopefully soon). Totally agree with doing a little bit of laundry every day- I used to let mine and my husband's laundry pile up for eternity and then do it all at once. That was horrible haha. It became such a monumental task that I kept putting it off. Doing one load every day makes it 1000 times easier and wayyy more manageable! And also one of your last tips about giving yourself less time is great. I love days when I have a long to-do lists... it kicks me into overdrive mode and I always feel super productive🤩
Totally me. If my kitchen an living room is cleaned an picked up. I can be more relaxed. Im on a chat of Christian songs an as I work i listen to those. I grew up doing laundry everyday. But I only do laundry mon an Thurs. I do wish I could do more meal prep like you. I get inspired watching your meal prep videos.
“INTENTIONAL”. I have had this word on my mind for the past few days. Coincidence- - wow ‼️ I have some work here in my home I have been putting off and putting off. I’m going to make a poster with your oh so wise quote “When you say yes to something, you are saying no to something else.” Using the excuse in my head that I’m age 72 and partially handicapped is not working for me. You see, even when you are directing your content for young mothers, it can also work for us old gals who need to find a better “new norm”. Thanks so much and God bless❣️
I 100% am that person who writes down things I've already done just so I can check them off! I LOVE lists and checking off things makes me feel accomplished and productive! Glad I'm not the only one!😅
That’s me I’m not busy enough. I need to go through my stuff since we moved to Springfield MO. And I really need to get rid of stuff. I need to plan my days out and go through some containers and do just a few a day. Thank you for sharing . I need this pep talk. I’m 64 yrs old.
Helpful and practical tips. I can totally relate to the last tip right before the quote. If you know you have less time you will be more productive. Thank you for the tips.
Great advice Megan! At this stage of my life (after working outside the home for 20 yrs) I pick up grandkids from school 3 days a week. I have a set routine to get things done and treat this as my work that the Lord has blessed me with. That leaves me time to enjoy sewing and crocheting. Also, loved the dress you were wearing! God bless. ♥️
Thanks for those tips....I'm a mennonite mom of 5 and currently pregnant with baby #6, living in tropical Belize where cleaning never seems to have an end 😜. I Always enjoy your content to the fullest!!
I can really relate to the part about giving myself too much time! When I worked full time my house was clean and my errands were done. Now that I’m at home with kids I have a lot of time to get things done BUT I can easily put it off for the next day or even the next day!
Yes, Megan! I’m about to start some weekend recovery cleaning on the house and this was just in time for me to listen to while I clean… love your content so much! ❤️
Wow,, Megan you are a super busy Mom & a very useful person. I wonder if you ever rest or get time to rest. But Well done . God bless U &Ur lovely fly.
Thank you Megan, great tips. As a teacher, I really do need to budge my time better. I love that coffee you were drinking, it looks delicious! I love that expression, if you're saying yes, you're saying no to something else! You're awesome!
I have to say Im not mennonite or nowhere near being one... but I love your channel so much! Your spirit and love listening while Im cleaning and the kids sleep 🙏🙏🙏thanks for your videos 🙏💗
Thank you for this awesome video chat!!!! I have a clean, organized home but, Confession #1- I cannot sew to save my life. The only thing I can do is sew a button back on. 🥺 Confession #2- I have a comforter set complete with pillow shams, decorative pillows and valances that's too young looking for our son now. There is a small area on a corner seam that opened up; I was determined I would stitch it up before donating. Everything has sat in bags in a closet since Christmas!!! My hubby keeps telling me to safety pin a big note on it where the mending is needed and get it out of here. Today I rewound (rewinded?) this video 4 times while I tried to mend it. At the 1 hour mark I gave up, removed my stitches and doing what hubby told me to do 8 months ago. I keep shaming myself, saying, "Megan would've had that repaired perfectly in 10 minutes". Glad to get this off my chest. 🤣 Have a blessed day!!
Im not a mom (unfortunately, 3 unsuccessful tries) but im now a homemaker and I am now needing to get these schedules in place. Im finding what works for me now. I do have a brand new pup though so some of these mom tips still apply for this energetic and accident prone puppy lol
Have you considered putting a laundry chute in upstairs so the stuff can drop right down into the laundry room? I drop all sorts of things down mine and it lands right in the hamper.m. Lol. Also makes cleaning up fun for the kids!!
I really needed this type of vlog. I know it's September already but it feels like May. My whole life was interrupted by studying and exams/CE's and I slept for a month after (when I got off work). So I can't make this up when I say I have been wearing tennis skirts and washing my bras in the sink....since JULY. LOL. No really. I worked 28 days straight like 14 -16 hour days and spent the next 4 weekends sleeping because I was so tired. I got way off track. Way off. I try to catch up but it will take extra effort. I can't be the only person who gets behind in chores, but it sure feels like it. I was even eating out of cans, I had no time to cook or plan a meal. I went to the pool once, this year. Don't worry, I will catch up; I am going to use the trick of a reward during a task (coffee/video or it will be a magazine because I will leave my phone in the laundry mat.

This is wonderful thanks Sally Ann! The last bit really got to me 😅 !
I love that poem. I stood in the rain today and just lifted my arms and turned in circles, smiling from ear to ear, taking in the smell of rain.
I love this! Thank you for sharing.
Love this poem!

I always watch TH-cam or Netflix or listen to a podcast when folding laundry. It's the best way to do it!
Even this Grammie can relate to some of your time mgt. tips! Time is definite my enemy! I need to develop some of the habits you described!
Your honesty and candidness is refreshing! I so needed to hear all of this. Intentionality! 🙌🏽🌈
So true, you get more done when you have more to do! And if you put time limits on things, or time of day limits, that helps too!
Wow I love the comment you made about it’s okay to not be able to relax at home, you can’t relax in a cubicle. I definitely needed to hear that!
So true! No one else can decide for you!
We are so alike in this!!! Each of these is something the Lord had already led me to implement over the past year, and it was so encouraging to hear you share them!!
The box at the bottom stairs...so true always me taking it up. Love ❤ the video
You are a wise woman. Thank you for being such an inspiration!
Mind blown! I finally understand why I can't seem to feel relaxed at home! Because it is also my workspace. Homeschool mom life 🤷♀️
I enjoyed this video so much!! I'm always looking for new ideas for productivity! When my children were young I always thought when they were grown I would have all the time in the world, and I'm still struggling with time management, lol! Thanks for all the tips, heading to check out the other channels as well!
I am totally the same I cannot just sit and relax with mess. Makes me so much happier to just get it all done
Oh my word... I have a kitchen, dining, living room that is open concept so those are my main areas to keep clean. I also watch TH-cam (today it was you) while i fold laundry! 😂
I needed this today...
Also, put a bean bag, yes a kids bean bag on your bed so you can prop your feet up and get that swelling of those ankles. xoxo
@@spunkycat6144 thanks for the tips... I am so ready for her to come! I usually go around 38 weeks so I am counting down...lol!
P.S. I really like your tip about treating your homemaking like a 9-5 job or however you worded it . That puts it in perspective.
One tip that helps me is if there's a task on whatever to do list I have doesn't end up getting done, I put it on an unfinished tasks list. I then sit down at the end of the day and figure out another day I can do said task. Just because I didn't get a certain task done, doesn't make me a horrible person.
Megan I’m watching this for the first time because somehow I missed it and I am LOVING this video! You inspire me in so many ways thank you 💖🙏
These tips are AMAZING!
I am a naturally motivated, super busy person who’s usually on the go. I related to most of what you said. YES to lists, and planners! 👏🏻
Love these tips, the last bible verse really hit home. many people our age are so lazy, it's refreshing to see your optimism & motivation. God bless!
Oh wow! I'm sure I could learn a lot from you!
This is some of the best advice about time management I have ever heard. Thank you, sister! ❤️
Wise words for one so young! Wish I had seen this when I was in middle school (in the mid '60s). It would probably have changed my life!
“Cute questions are no longer cute” 🙌🙌🙌 great video! You’re totally speaking my language here friend! Love the big sister talk. ☺️
This was so helpful. I needed this kick in the tail. Thank you for always being honest and forthcoming. Have a beautiful day!
I can really relate to the part about giving myself too much time! When I worked full time my house was clean and my errands were done. Now that I’m at home with kids I have a lot of time to get things done BUT I can easily put it off for the next day or even the next day!
yup! Sometimes we need a little pressure!
Thanks Megan, its so true. give yourself less time to achieve things and you can do more... I do this a lot. Thanks again
Yes, Megan! I’m about to start some weekend recovery cleaning on the house and this was just in time for me to listen to while I clean… love your content so much! ❤️
This is the perfect type of video for that!
Loved all your tips Megan. And that quote about saying yes to something. Thanks for the video
A Collab with my favorite 😀Love Minimal Mom. Thanks for all your work in making these videos. Such a blessing and inspiration to so many❤️
This is so helpful! I am a new mom and can totally relate to getting more done when I’m busy. Currently living in 2-3 hr blocks of time!
One of your last points really shed light on something for me. Thanks!!
Omg I’m not even pregnant and the sleep advice really hit me. I need to prioritize it
I do that all the time!! If I forget to write something on my list once it’s done I write it down just so I can cross it off!! So satisfying😃
I have liked this and saved it to my favorites because you really spoke to me and I know I'll need it later!
I have to say Im not mennonite or nowhere near being one... but I love your channel so much! Your spirit and love listening while Im cleaning and the kids sleep 🙏🙏🙏thanks for your videos 🙏💗
I like checking off the list so YES if’s not on the list I write it down and check it off!
Great tips! I love watching how other people manage their time and it gives me motivation to implement some new tactics for my time!
You have put your home together o nicely. I just don't have the eye for it. Thanks for the time management tips!
Great motivational video Megan. Yes, I too love to cross things off my list, it gives me a good feeling of productivity.
Love your videos! Be intentional is my favorite saying! Thank you
Thank you for this awesome video chat!!!!
Absolutely love your basket idea! It is so clever!
I enjoy listening to music as I clean or do laundry especially the Gaither’s and Signature sound ! 💜
My parents have all their videos! I should borrow them sometimes for cleaning days -- very high energy.
I'm not a mom (yet) but you are so relatable and likeable!
I watched this video earlier this week and I’ve found it so helpful in structuring my day! Thank you!
Thank you Megan for this video. You are a real one! Your tips are always timely, practical and God-breathed. Keep it up mama ❤️
Im not a mom (unfortunately, 3 unsuccessful tries) but im now a homemaker and I am now needing to get these schedules in place. Im finding what works for me now. I do have a brand new pup though so some of these mom tips still apply for this energetic and accident prone puppy lol
Excellent thoughts Megan…great job in your presentation.
even though I’m not a mom just a teenager here lol you really inspire me & always got me looking forward to your videos:))
Thank you for the motivation! I love your inthusiasm and zeal for living a productive and intentional life!🥰
Have you considered putting a laundry chute in upstairs so the stuff can drop right down into the laundry room?
