  • OUTSTANDING OVERTURE | Inspired by the birth of his first child, Ticheli's "Joy" is a boisterous, joy-filled overture for concert band. Ticheli shares how he came upon the primary melody for this work, "The intense feelings that most any father would feel on such a day were, in my case, accompanied by a simple little tune which grabbed hold of me in the hours preceding her birth, and refused to let go throughout the day and many days thereafter. Indeed, until I jotted it down in my sketchbook, it did not release its grip."
    We hope this work brings you as much joy as it does us!

    Thank you so much for this performance and recording! I am working on this with one of my middle school concert bands for their next concert. This will be invaluable for their growth!

    Hi! Great performance, I played a piece called Blue Ridge Reel (by Brian Balmages) about a year ago, and it’s still stuck in my head, it would be cool to see the professionals play it!

      My band played this for concert assessment, along with Warriors of the 16th Empire and The Big Circus March and got a division 1. Even at such a high rating, I feel that it's a pretty difficult piece on tuba as a tuba player myself, especially dynamically.

      @@jamestompsett5546 idk it was pretty easy to me bc I've been playing for about four years but yeah the dynamics are a little wierd

    Played this song at ksu band camp

    I played that piece at dixie band camp. It was the first piece we played in the 4th band, I was playing it on bass trombone and in one of our rehearsals I hanged over on accident because I was off a beat. And at the moment I did it, I didn't know why the band teacher was looking at me in ouh. Because I ruined my friend Travis who is a french horn player, he was first chair for the band and he knew who did hanged over because I do it all the time. And he looked over at me and said my name in angry: ALEX!!! And I said to him why me? Then he says to me: Because you do it all the time! And when we were packing up leaving to our first elective, I was kinda grinding because I thought it was funny. And then Travis says this back to me while he was talking to me: It's not funny Alex.

    I hate to be the bearer of bad news… but the ritardando at 0:44 second has to be very apparent, drastic, dramatic and drawn out to taste…. I’ve played this peace numerous times in-front judges and have always been awarded first division with honorable mentions to me and the percussion section… this peace of musical literature I hold dear to my heart so that’s why I care so much

    • @MacEathen
      @MacEathen ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The cool thing about music is that you don’t always have to play it as written. If the director doesn’t want to do something in a piece, they don’t have to. Just because you like to emphasize the ritardando doesn’t mean they have to
