Is there a rule as to when to add the shin and what does it mean? ... originally I thought it was after a vowel sound or only after או but neither seems to be correct. Thanks.

    If there are two israeli students named Jenna and Jenni

    How could the teacher spells their name correctly?

    • @miqueasbello5382
      @miqueasbello5382 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patricius Joshua These two names wouldn't be spelled the same. Jenna would be something like ג'נה and Jenny would be something like ג'ני. (In Modern Hebrew the apostrophe after a gimel gives the "J" sound found in the English pronunciation of Jenni/Jenna.) Gimmel, nun, nun, (גנן) actually means "a gardener". Don't forget that in Hebrew, the yud (י) is one of the few letters that can function as a vowel, which is why in this case, these two names would be spelled differently. Hope that helps.

    • @HebrewPod101
      @HebrewPod101  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Louri Lopes,
      Thanks for your post!
      Yes, there is a difference in most cases between ח and כ.
      Note first, that "כ" is pronounced either as a C or a K sometimes (when dotted - כָּ), and as KH in other times. "ח" will never make a K/C sound.
      as per the "כ" = kh option - it might sound similar to "ח" but maybe a little more soft then the usual pronunciation of "ח" which is a direct and sharp consonant.
      Hope it helps, it can be confusing in the beginning but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it quickly :)

    I've been wondering about the teaching that there were not any vowels in the earliest Scriptures (eg. the Torah). I am now wondering if that doctrine is partially incorrect, in the light of the fact that aleph, hey, vav and yud can function as vowels.
    And I have been specifically wondering about the word "Cush" in GENESIS 2:13 of Young's Literal Translation. I assume that there was a Kish in Mesopotamia. And I assume that there was a Kesh in Mesopotamia (perhaps a spelling variation of Kish).
    When you consider the fact that there is a vav in "Cush" in GENESIS 2:13 of Young's Literal Translation, can you claim that GENESIS 2:13 definitely does not reference a Kish and / or Kesh in Mesopotamia ?
    Incidentally, Egyptian inscriptions refer to Ethiopia as Kesh. And I definitely believe that there was a Mesopotamian Kesh. Simply put, I believe that there were 2 places with similar names (written and spoken).
    I will greatly appreciate any wisdom and knowledge that anybody has to share with me in this rather broad matter.

    • @davidbrainerd1520
      @davidbrainerd1520 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Its not partially incorrect, its an actual lie. Consider how the vowel pointing system works. Aleph and Ayin are considered soundless consonants that merely serve as placeholders for vowel points, and He often functions the same way (when not a consonantal H sound). Meaning Aleph, Ayin, and He were obviously REAL vowels before the pointing system was created.
      Hebrew has vowels. Don't buy the lie. Aleph is A. Ayin (Oyin) is O. Vav is U. Yod is I/Y. He is E. Now you can read Biblical Hebrew without stupid points and dots. For words lacking any of these or where you obviously need a vowel but none of these is on that syllable, a short 'uh' sound will suffice.

      Well, when reading using voweled letters, one can see the dot above the vav, which makes an O, or "in" the vav (on its left side) and then the sound is U.

    But what is the point? It is so deliberatly complicated. In european langauges you can learn so much about your language by gaining literacy. In hebrew this is all switched around. You can only read what you already know. I would be interested in learning but the fact that you cannot learn through reading but can only read what you already learnt is curbing my enthusiasm.

Ashdod Ashdud .The other letter olso sh and s . If you don' t know which words are reading as sh and s this kind of problems are very hard to understand .The only solush as i understand first to know practicaliy speaking after that we know them to read it easly.

    How do you pronounce the Tetragrammaton (Yod, Hay, Waw, Hay) without any vowel points ? How do you pronounce it ?

    • @leemagain2792
      @leemagain2792 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a non native hebrew speaker I would spontaneously read it : "y-a-v-a","y-a-v-e" or also "y-a-o-e", "y-a-o-a" ; but the actual prononciation is unknown anyway

    • @supunpetta2248
      @supunpetta2248 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Safa Actually the correct Pronunciation is YaHuWaH.

      Safa nope. It’s 100% Yahuwah. It has been revealed to me by yahuwah himself. The bible says his name will be known among ALL generations. I believe this. It’s never been lost

    I would never in a million years have been able to guess, "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow." Never, I was guessing, "That witch shit falty don't dot are follow"(actually it wasn't even that good).

    All languages EXCEPT Hebrew can be learned by reading first. Unfortunately, unless you already know the word, it's pronounciation (unless the text uses nikkud), will be impossible to sound out. Written Hebrew, at best, only gives clues about pronounciation not exact sounds.
