I find it funny that the Hub network may be to blame for all the weirdly angsty animanaics fics that popped up in the early 2010's due to it re-running mostly there
Dan Vs. always striked me as “Baby’s first Adult Swim show” so when I found out it was initially pitched to them it wasn’t really a shock Obviously there’s nothing strictly adult in there but it was definitely the edgiest show on The Hub
I'll never be able to forget The Hub, it was the only channel I watched back in 2011/2012 when other kids channels were failing horribly at keeping me interested with their new shows, and it felt like it was the only channel even worth watching as I was phasing out of watching TV in general because of how varied the channel's lineups of new and classic shows were, generally of really great quality as well. Even as I eventually stopped watching, I still felt a difficult to explain sadness when I learned the channel had shut down just a couple years later and retooled into Discovery Family, it felt like the end of something great to me, and it's something that kid me could have never seen coming, to this day I still miss those days and look back on them fondly for more than just the earliest days of the MLP fandom. Everything in The Hub felt linked together with their advertising, as a part of a greater network of interconnected shows that crossed over with each other freely, and it reminded me of the old CN City days, something else I also loved from my childhood
@@AxsorXI hard disagree on the G5 take. It’s actually fine and charming when you don’t think about the inconsistencies with G4 imo. Also you shouldn’t let the bad apples of the fandom ruin a show for you. There are some good. I Hasbro is yet another greedy company but like, they’ve always been like that. MLPs entire reason for existing is to sell.
I'm glad someone else mentioned the CN City bumpers, that was my introduction to Cartoon Network and I don't know if that made my expectations too high as a kid but tv in the late 2000s and early 2010s didn't feel as fun to me as it did in the era before. The Hub at the time felt like a breath of fresh air during a time where it didn't feel like there were a lot of good things to watch. I was surprised when I found out that it only lasted for four years, it felt like it existed for a lot longer than that.
It's how I got into batman and superman the animated series. Rl stines show and Halloween were the best. So much shows I discovered pre internet access
Back when ToysRUs shut down in America, they let me buy this tapestry off of them that was meant to be in the MLP/LPS section of the store. It reads “Friendship Headquarters: Hub Network”, and has images of characters from each show printed on it. I don’t think I’ll ever want to take it down cause it’s honestly my prized possession, the loss of The Hub was devastating to little me lmao 😭
The Hub introduced me to the Goosebumps series and the first ever episode I saw was the one with the haunted mask. And you know what, it still creeps me out to this day.
I remember it as Discovery Kids & I've definitely never forgotten. They really need a dedicated streaming app for all these shows. I mostly want Zabomafoo & Bindi the Jungle girl
I'm gratefully for having the opportunity to edit this video. I hope you all enjoy how it came out just as much as I had fun putting it together. This took way longer than I'd care to admit, and I think it paid off in the end.
You did a lovely job! The Hub is after my time but those promos bring me back to a time when I still watched Fox Kids and Kid's WB and CN! It's nice to see that some of the kidos after me got experience those happy and fun feeling like me when I was a kid if they had the HUB.
Great video, wish more people talked about Dan Vs. and Littlest Pet Shop ps: Buttercream is actually voiced by Cathy Weseluck, who voiced Spike in MLP and Vinnie is voiced by Kyle Rideout, who voiced Thorax in MLP
It's kinda strange, because I remember LPS having a pretty sizable/vocal fanbase 10 years ago. It wasn't as big as MLP, but it wasn't exactly niche or hidden either. Also, I just realized Daniel Ingram and Ashleigh Ball worked on LPS, and I find that pretty amusing
@@DrMoonRoseI think post Digital Circus would fit better. Hazbin Hotel feels like a build up but The Amazing Digital Circus was a massive W for indie animation. In fact, 2023 is just a HUGE W year for indie animation with Lackadaisy and The Amazing Digital Circus coming out.
This video is right up my alley, a random TV channel with some of the greatest hits of all time, and major flops all in a wonderful retrospective video. Also this channel has MLP and Strawberry Shortcake, Pound Puppies, Littlest Pet Shop, etc etc is easily an A+ in my book. Thank you so much for the heart on the original version of this comment. And P.S. I remember the Aquabats from Yo Gabba Gabba and Dan from randomly scrolling in the MLP fandom.
This lasted the entirety of the early 2010s AND JUST the early 2010s. I freaking loved watching Family game night, Dan Vs, Animaniacs reruns, and Pictureka while my sister watched MLP FIM. Without this channel, the brony culture never would've existed. Tragically, because of MLP's success, all other original shows got the Spongebob treatment for the most part and got cancelled because it couldn't meet the popularity of it right from the get go. Dan Vs deserved so much more
the “i don’t care who the IRS sends, i’m not paying taxes” line trended as an audio clip on tiktok for a while and i had no idea where it was actually from until now
It still really sucks that the rebranding of the Hub resulted in the cancellation of shows like LPS, Dan Vs, Strawberry Shortcake and R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour. Well I mean the main reason LPS 2012 and LPS: AWOO were cancelled may have been because of low toy sales, But I wouldn't be surprised if even the network decided to pull the plug at the last minute. And it could well be that Strawberry Shortcake: BBA was cancelled for the exact same reasons. As for Dan Vs and the Haunting Hour, The reason for their cancellation was never fully explained. But I think a possible reason is because despite the shows successes, It could be that Discovery Family cancelled those shows because they probably thought they weren't right for a "family friendly" network so they pulled the plug because of it, At least that's my theory.
Regarding what you said about Dan Vs and the Haunting Hour. While it's unconfirmed I guess could understand why those two particular shows wouldn't be considered family friendly, Because despite the Haunting Hour's "Too scary for children under 7" warning kids probably still watched it anyway which probsbly made parents mad. And Dan Vs may have been a success but, I'll bet parents had problems with it. Because the concept of an angry little man wanting revenge against those who have wronged him may have been entertaining for adults, But there's no way a character like Dan would ever be considered a role model for children plus a lot of stuff that Dan does in the show would've been considered "imitatible" and kids would only learn how to hold petty grudges, And of course there's also the overall violence in the show and as we all know parents are never ok with cartoon violence.
I wasn't a big fan of that Strawberry Shortcake CGI cartoon as other people, since I wasn't much into the light-hearted Strawberry Shortcakes as much as the more cartoony Wildbrain series (which have the same people who worked on My Little Pony and some other cartoons like Johnny Test and Being Ian). But I'll admit that the character designs in the CGI show were cool enough. And yeah, I really enjoyed My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Pound Puppies alot. Dan Vs. was a cool show too. Too bad Hub's original catalog (other than MLP) didn't had much impact as their acquired stuff.
@@AxsorXI Not only Hasbro, but also... Mattel too. They've been abusing the Thomas the Tank Engine brand alot recently with its recent reboot. This is why Lego was better at stuff than these two.
@@kootunesscrewy I feel that even before being sold to Mattel, Thomas the Tank engine toys were still a big deal. Otherwise, the original book based show’s popularity declined pretty fast and it itself has been offed by a middling Canadian spinoff that pretty much no one likes.
I honsetly don't understand why this network failed, I'd figure MLP alone would have been enough to keep it around considering how huge it was from around 2010 to 2013 on the internet, plus transformers prime and aquabats were pretty based shows, and I've heard nothinbg but great things about dan vs so I wanna watch that one day.
Oddly enough, Family Game Night was actually my favorite part of The Hub Network growing up. I still to this day love watching game shows and I think it was The Hub’s fault
Dan VS legitimately remains one of my favorite television shows of all time, I distinctly remember loving the episode where he goes to therapy as a kid, back when we had cable. Good times
I remember watching Discovery Kids before it got rebranded into The Hub. Peep and the Big Wide World, Ready Set Learn, Time Warp Trio, Growing Up Creepie, Grossology, and Kenny The Shark were my favorite shows during the Discovery Kids era.
Because you said us stans should let our voices be heard, Peep and the Big Wide World was a big part of me and my friend’s childhoods. I remember in middle school when we eventually started making TH-cam Poops out of it, though because we were in middle school, those videos probably aren’t amazing in retrospect. We have very fond memories of quoting the show and talking about how underrated of a character Quack is, and I always thought his voice was really cool. Too bad his VA hasn’t been involved in much else. Nonetheless, thanks for bringing that show up!
i'm a huge aquabats fan, i got so excited for this video!! also as a fan i confirm there is no evil feud between the aquabats fans and tmbg fans. most of us are fans of both. if you had a venn diagram of tmbg and aquabats fans, it would be a nearly perfect circle. this video is great, it covers everything i would want to see for a video about the hub!!!! i felt so nostalgic, especially during the promos section. i wish the hub lasted a little longer. great video :D
For me the 2009ish to 2015 time period, was the last hoorah/resurgence for the era of animated blocks and networks. Having Nicktoons, The Hub, Cw4kids Vortex, and the ressurected Toonami made it feel like it was 2005. It was good to have one more era of good blocks/networks, before the streaming takeover. Adult Swim/the ressurected Toonami, is the last one standing.
this video made me start SOBBING. and im being serious. i was watching the aquabats part and i was like “THAT LOOKS LIKE MIKEY WAY!” and then MARK MOTHERSBAUGH was mentioned and then HOMESTAR RUNNER was mentioned and then GERARD WAY was mentioned so i realized the guy that looks like mikey way WAS mikey way THEN tmbg was mentioned and i FREAKED OUT . awesome video
As a young adult during the time the Hub was around, I still greatly enjoyed it the entire 4 years or so it lasted. It was like that Saturday morning magic came back as a whole channel to say hello to a new generation before taking off again.
i miss the hub so much, they cared so much with my little pony, what with all the animated extra goofy little ads for the show and stuff. discovery family just didn’t have any of that. also YES PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD WAS MY ABSOLUTE CHILDHOOD AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
Literally me!!! I saw Wakko's Wish one of the times they aired it on the channel and became OBSESSED with it, even buying it on my *cough iPad cough* and rewatching it all the time ( I did some digging and found out that was apparently 10 years ago this month 🥲). A little while later, either through and ad on the channel and/or seeing the page dedicated to it on the Hub's network, I found out the characters from that movie I really liked were "getting a show". I remember running to my mom excitedly to tell her my discovery, and she just never told me the obvious 😅. I'd eventually realize the show in fact wasn't new, but it was new to me and I treated it as such lol
Ok but why are we causally glossing over the Transformers Rescue Bots theme song? That opening goes hard, especially with that guy yelling near the chorus. Like it’s actually hella catchy and deserves more recognition for that
Wonderful video, I'm always so happy to see people bringing up Dan Vs. As someone who was part of that very small but very close community at the peak of it's airing, it astounds me to look back at how kind, polite, and loving a community centered around a show about an angry delusional man could be. Most of the people were so kind and chill. It may not have produced the same level of nostalgic magic that the MLP fandom did, but I made some amazing friends through that show. It's never held up quite as well to me as I've gotten older, but it holds a special place in my heart for the fandom and memories alone.
As someone who lived in a country that just... never got the hub, we had Discovery kids for as long as I remember. My closest encounter to the hub was being around 8, and couldn’t wait for the mlp episodes to be translated (it took MONTHS) and watching english pirated versions with the tv ads still on them
I have a sealed Lily Blossom pony figure that has the Hub logo sticker on her box. Lily Blossom is my favorite G4 pony toy and I went all over town in search of her. Target didn't have her, Walmart didn't have her...But then I found her at a CVS drug store. That was the was the Only Lily Blossom figure in town. I'm never opening her. Also, I'm not happy that the villian dog in the Twisted Whiskers show is a Pitbull. These companies need to stop this anti-Pitbull discrimination and demonization .
I remember watching so many of these shows back from around 2011-2014. I still remember when I saw the Hub for the last time. I wish I had the chance to say goodbye.
Well, since this is a reupload, I will post my comment with my thoughts again: I absolutely loved this video. As a latin american kid, I never got the Hub network, because Discovery Kids just kept going and changing with time, and that was one of the networks I was watching the most (also because it had MLP), so I've always been a bit curious about how the Hub experience as a whole was over there, since many bronies at the time were familiar with it. It's interesting to see Discovery Kids in LATAM and Hub shared some shows, but there is still so many differences like in identity and much more. Very complete and interesting retrospective!
Also It's funny how the HUB shows scattered all over different channels here in Latin America: MLP: FiM was in Discovery Kids Littlest Pet Shop was in Nickelodeon and Nicktoons Transformers Prime and RID was on Cartoon Network She-Zow i think was on Netflix And Dan VS. Sadly never got a Spanish dub and It's only known as "That show where the protagonist is being used as the avatar of a Fake News page"
I remember I was 10 years old on the day the channel changed from Discovery Kids to the Hub. I had no clue the channel was changing so when I turned on the tv and saw Kenny the Shark was on I tuned in thinking maybe a Time Warp Trio rerun would play and the disappointment on my face when I learned I would never see Time Warp Trio again is imprinted in my mind. Though I grew to love the Hub I remember Pound Puppies was a big hit for me. Going home sick from school and watching Pickureka was also a big memory I have. RIP Hub
I had the vaugest memories as a baby/toddler of watching “the show that would always change it’s theme song” and for like, 10 years I had no idea what it was until I realised that Animaniacs used to air on the Hub, and I _loved_ the Hub Overall, the network holds a special place in my heart, and this was a very good video 😭❤️
god i miss hub network :( growing up on the hub is probably why i enjoyed the new strawberry shortcake, it has very dhx feeling animation and a ton of familiar voices, either from that golden era i loved as a kid or voices i recognize from the new mlp which just feels so right tbh, the cycle of "oh i know you as this pony" continues and it just takes me back actually, what i want to know is, why does netflix only have the first 4 seasons of mlp. why is there less than half the entire series come on you're in that deep just commit like damn
The Hub is actually how I first got into Transformers - Prime is still one of my favorite shows today. It’s definitely one of the most popular shows amongst Transformers fans. I watched LPS and MLP a lot too - so many great memories ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
prime has the worst writing of all time like why would raph go with bumblebee during a storm only to end up with energon poisoning? a terrible episode only underage children would care about
I never watched the hub personally, but back in the day when I would watch youtubers react to MLP FiM, they would sometimes include the hub bumpers and commercials. They were responsible for MLP fans having weird memes about Moon Shoes and Gack. They’re responsible for Dan Vs. and Littlest Pet Shop showing up in MLP fan content at the time.
For me, the channel was only available for a premium cable subscription (because of Comcast at the time). For many others, it was the same thing. That was a death sentence even with the brony fandom. I was a brony of the era (I was 10 at the time and wasn't in the main fandom), and the channel was out of my reach. I ended up just watching MLP on Netflix until I stopped watching around 2015.
45:22 gonna share a few fun facts here, strongbad has actually been featured in aquabats related stuff more than once! There's this, a moment where the aquabats call all their fans and homestar and strongbad show up wearing aquabats outfits, and even in the actual live shows strongbad has shown up as a puppet!
Here in the UK obviously we didn't have "The Hub" so i ended up finding most of the MLP eps online (before they inevitably aired on POP about 2 years too late) i also saw a couple of eps of LPS and Shezow on Pop too, but i had no idea all of them were on the hub back in the day. All i knew was, surprise surprise Dan VS and MLP. So this was a really well done informative video. Also that Equestria Girls parody song promo was like, the greatest part of the early show. It was a Season 2 promo as far as i remember.
I remember they showed MLP FIM, reruns of Fraggle Rock, The Christmas Toy, In the Night Garden, Dan Vs, Animaniacs, and so on. I freaking loved it! But the cancellation always baffled me. Maybe it was because these shows were being pulled for streaming which is what led to the downfall. Or just- lack of interest in the programs.
I feel as though the only time that I would watch the Hub is whenever they would have the “Hub Family Movie” on. I remember seeing those bumpers where they would show a montage of the various movies that they would have on. Whenever they would put on a movie that I was interested in watching, I would always watch it. I remember back in the early years of the hub that my older brother was obsessed with Friendship is Magic, and I wasn’t really interested in the show at the time, but looking back, I’m upset that I didn’t get into the show during that time because since then, I have seen Friendship is Magic, and it’s actually a really good show, and I would consider myself a certified Brony. I also remember when the Hub was my first introduction to Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Pinky and the Brain, and since then, I have seen Animaniacs in its entirety, and it is now one of my favorite animated series, right next to Ren and Simpy (1991). All in all, the Hub was a great network and it is sad that the network is now a thing of the past.
I use to loved hub too. I wouldn’t have got back into transformers without it. Plus the haunting hour was the main reason I love anthology horror shows
Well the old version is unlisted now so gonna redo my comment: Yay Haunting Hour/Spooksville acknowledged. I could go on for ages about those lol Haunting Hour was what I got into the hub for, before MLP even.
Ahhh I and a small niche on tumblr watched Shezow back in the day lmao. I barely remember any of it but I remember enjoy it well enough!... although, yeah, I don't think the art style was ever that good. One of the biggest moments was when they introduced DudePow, who was the MC from another universe and was a girl being a guy superhero. Now that was the beginning of my multiverse.
It's weird. I've only tuned into this network once or twice, but I still feel super nostalgic for it for some reason! It's a shame, but understandable as to why The Hub ended up falling behind Cartoon Network or Disney. As for other networks, another similar one I vaguely remember is Qubo. I don't know if it has enough original stuff to warrant a full video, but maybe it'd be worth a look? That said, great stuff here! Really informative.
according to wikipedia, only 3 of Qubo's shows were original... so yeah, not a lot to work with lol but as someone who used to watch Qubo all the time back in the day, i'd still love to see someone do a deep dive into the history of the network
The Hub has Taylor Swift, The Fonz from Happy Days, 60's Batman, ALF, and Reruns of DCAU, Tiny Toons, and Animaniacs as well as MLP FIM and other Hasbro Shows.
Blythe dolls are a pretty big deal in some jfashion spaces- I recognized the name immediately since I wear lolita fashion. They used to do a ton of collaborations with various Japanese fashion brands, so maybe that's where the association of Blythe being all about fashion comes from? (Or they're just doing the very basic, 'girl likes clothes'). It is bizarre though seeing her in a LPS TV show.
Oh my God, the nostalgia! I forgot so much of this including Pound Puppies which I loved as a kid. I always thought Dan VS was an adult cartoon I wasn't allowed to watch, I might give it a shot now!
The Hub was easily the most criminally underrated channel to ever exist. Not only do I remember watching G1 Transformers and Fraggle Rock reruns on here, but I vividly remember watching a ton of new MLP episodes when they were new on Saturdays (Not a Brony ;( )
It honestly shocks me it was only 4 years. It feels like it was longer. Yeah, it was the MLP channel, but I watched the shit out of Family Game Night and Pound Puppies when I was younger. I wish the latter could've gone on longer. It broke my heart when I was watching the reruns and then it cycled back to the very first episode, having to realize that there would be nothing new. A similar thing happened to me with Teen Titans on the Boomerang channel.
Hoo boy, never have I felt so much nostalgia for a television channel. I honestly loved the whole video, especially the small history of discovery kids because that was my childhood channel before the hub (the way how I excitedly pointed at the screen when you mentioned time warp trio and Peep...) There was just so much that I loved about this retrospective and I do agree that the hub was a channel that "you just had to be there" to fully understand how unique and special it was to a generation of kids in the early 2010's. And I'm proud to be apart of that generation :,3
hey, this was an amazing video essay, i LOVED this network when it was still active, especially for Transformers and the game shows! (hell i was there for the 20-hour Megatron takeover they did leading up to a Transformers Prime event, think it was a finale) here's a few tidbits i know, especially towards the Aquabats and its Super Show :) The Haunting Hour's actually an Emmy-winning series surprisingly enough, winning Outstanding Children's Program at the Daytime Emmys twice in a row in 2013 and 2014 (Aquabats was ALSO nominated for that in 2013) afaik DEVO was a major inspiration for The Aquabats! it probably influenced the band going for a more new-wave direction for the sound, so seeing Mothersbaugh as a guest on their show was likely a huge honor to be bestowed upon. Gerard Way was also a director and writer on the AntiBats episode! (also the cartoon segments on the Super Show were done by a team that did art for the band before, i forgot their name sadly... and Mega64 did work on the fake ads!)
I miss the Hub. It’s funny to think that my main obsessions are Animaniacs and MLP because those were the shows I watched like crazy on the Hub. I also watched Tiny Toons, Care Bears, and Strawberry Shoetcake but I didn’t really watch them as much as MLP and Animaniacs. I was introduced to Animaniacs thanks to the Hub and I’ve been a fan ever since. For some reason I wasn’t interested in The Aquabats as a kid. I guess it was too weird for me? Now I love weird stuff lol.
I grew up on the hub, so im really excited to watch this. The aquabats! have always been one of my favorite bands simply because i grew up with them, we might've listened to their music before the show even, because our first introduction to anything remotely aquabats! related was yo gabba gabba! For those of you who don't know, the lead singer of the aquabats!, the MC bat commander (Christian Jacobs) actually made yo gabba gabba! If you haven't checked out any music by the aquabats!, i highly recommend it, especially if you like silly light hearted songs with weird synths and some sweet electric guitar. Also for my fellow mlp fans, if you've seen 2ManySnacks' 'G4 was super rad!' Animatic, the song used in it "super rad!" Was made by the aquabats! :)
I loved the hub so much growing up. I originally started watching it because of my little pony but then I started to watch other shows like carebears, strawberry shortcake, littlest pet shop, pound puppies and this show called maryoku yummy that literally no one talks about. It is sad that the channel had such a short run
I remember watching The Haunting Hour, Family Game Night, LPS, and more as a kid on Discovery Kids and the Hub (was born in 2001, for reference). I noticed that the Hub had disappeared at some point in recent years, but I never looked up when or why. It's been neat watching some of these sorts of retrospectives as an adult, comparing what I remember watching and feeling with info I'm getting now; also, discovering just how many scenes, episodes, and shows that I can still remember is kinda fun. Also, I slapped my hand over my mouth at the end of the "Ask Megatron" bit at 53:22
In my case with comcast I had nick on 53, cartoon network on 54 And Disney on 55 hub was added to channel 121 when my family upgraded, it’s been like that for me since 2005
@@AxsorXI discovery family bought it. They own mlp fim seasons 5-9. So g5 has to pay a fee to say twilight sparkle. Yeah hasbro does not care for their ips. At least transformers franchise is doing ok... I hope
I realized smth when Shunks said the character dynamic of Dan Vs of a main character with no friends has shenanigans with his best friend and the best friends wife was kinda rare, but I’ve seen it somewhere a lot more recently…. HELLUVA BOSS! You got MC Blitzo, who doesn’t have many friends, and the married couple of Moxxie and Millie just dealing and having their own thing. It’s honestly a fun dynamic for character interactions
i loved the hub growing up but it was always for some reason that channel that if referenced, wasn't known? my mom didn't care for it much i remember that lol, she hated shezow but that was my fav show on the channel so we made it work
I loved MLP, pound puppies and LPS. Along with strawberry shortcake sometimes. But the hub was my go to channel, i remember LPSs being introduced and the later change to discovery. So crazy to look back on it all
Spooksville was actually based on a childrens book series of the same name by Christopher Pike. As someone who read a lot of the books as a kid I was sad when the show got cancelled. Because I felt it had a lot of potential
also yes I remember the Incredible Crew, and my friend reminded me during an intermission at a musical we were doing together that Andrew WK was in Destroy Build Destroy which I had forgotten about for at least 10 years.
I remember when the Hub first launched, I was there the day it changed from discovery. They had a number to call to "win prizes" but little 7 year old me always got told it was busy. I kept trying for hours and never go through to anyone-
The hub is where I first watched classic WB shows like Animaniacs and Tiny Toons, which were very impactful for me. I’m always grateful for the hub for that
The Hub was a godsend during the days where BTAS was almost impossible to find. The DVD’s had been sold out for years and finding something like that on Amazon wasn’t as easy as it is now. I shit myself the first time I turned on my dad’s TV and saw BTAS playing, my older brother freaked and had called me to check it out. I watched it religiously before my dad came home from work in the afternoon from then on.
I wish my family had gotten premium cable sooner than we did so I could've experienced The Hub. I do remember watching Animaniacs and a bit of LPS at a friends house though.
I absolutely LOVE videos like this that go back and reflect on long gone and forgotten tv networks and shows. It'd be awesome if you talked about qubo or dic
I enjoyed that video. The Hub has been working on their shows and brands for years and I grew up watching each of my childhood shows, especially My Little Pony 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾💖💖💖
I loved the hub! So glad to see LPS getting talked about here, nobody ever seems to want to talk about the show and always just want to talk about the toys which is a real shame because I loved the show a lot growing up.
this video made me realize how much I missed the hub. I grew up watching the disney channel and the hub and it’s so sad to me that the hub is gone now. I absolutely loved lps, mlp, care bears, pound puppies, strawberry shortcake, and family game night lol. a big portion of the shows they aired are nostalgic to me. it’s surprising to me that the hub only lasted 4 years as it had such a big impact on my childhood and my interests. like I’m still very much into lps, mlp, and care bears because of that channel. also kinda glad you talked about the haunting hour as I forgot the name of that show but used to be so scared of it.
The Hub Network was much more colorful and upbeat, I even remember someone saying that it brought together the old and new audiences. I wish I watched it more often when it was still around. I can't stand Discovery Family, I mean, what kind of TV Channel has animated TV shows and real life nature shows at the same freaking time?!
i actually basically only ever watched the hub for the board game gameshows... despite being at the right age for some of the cartoons at the time, none of them ever really appealed to me, but watching the gameshows with my family became a weekly thing! sometimes we'd even have our own board game nights while watching those shows too ^^
The hub was such a big part of my childhood and I’m so grateful. My little pony, strawberry shortcake, and all the shows were awesome. I loved the website and games and was so sad when it closed

I remember as a kid finding out hub was rebranding into discovery family, I literally cried and marked down the day of its rebranding in my calendar 💀
I don’t think I’ll ever want to take it down cause it’s honestly my prized possession, the loss of The Hub was devastating to little me lmao 😭
do you have an image of that? that sounds so sick lol
Man that sounds awesome!
a relic of two defunct entities... that's pretty cool
Could you post a picture of it? That sounds so cool
That might be worth something down the line.
I’ve never really seen the hub as forgotten per say, the 4 years it’s was on tv definitely left some form of impact.
Not to mention that is created multiple fanbases at once.
The Hub introduced me to the Goosebumps series and the first ever episode I saw was the one with the haunted mask. And you know what, it still creeps me out to this day.
@@robertcortez4956yeah when I first discovered hub and goosebumps I recorded constantly along with haunting hour and spooksville

Zoboomafoo
I remember there were people hating on 2012 LPS because the toys were changed to match the style of the show
Yeah! Plus no one really cared about the 2018 show that came afterwards, even if it matched the style of the older toys
People were also hating on Friendship is Magic because it was more successful and overshadowed the previous MLP toys and shows.

I just remembered watching it on there today. I agree
Great video, wish more people talked about Dan Vs. and Littlest Pet Shop

P.S.S. I STAND FOR PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD NOBODY CAN CHANGE MY MIND!!!!!!!
don’t forget Transformers Prime
Oh i forgot
I adore Strawberry Shortcake
This lasted the entirety of the early 2010s AND JUST the early 2010s. I freaking loved watching Family game night, Dan Vs, Animaniacs reruns, and Pictureka while my sister watched MLP FIM. Without this channel, the brony culture never would've existed. Tragically, because of MLP's success, all other original shows got the Spongebob treatment for the most part and got cancelled because it couldn't meet the popularity of it right from the get go. Dan Vs deserved so much more
"re-uploaded to fix visual errors" guys it's in the description!!! JEEEZ.
glad she fixed it
the “i don’t care who the IRS sends, i’m not paying taxes” line trended as an audio clip on tiktok for a while and i had no idea where it was actually from until now
It still really sucks that the rebranding of the Hub resulted in the cancellation of shows like LPS, Dan Vs, Strawberry Shortcake and R.L.
I remember Haunting Hour being *a lot* more disturbing than the 90s Goosebumps tv series.

Good times
I'm going to go rewatch the series for the first time since it was on tv starting now
I remember watching Discovery Kids before it got rebranded into The Hub. Peep and the Big Wide World, Ready Set Learn, Time Warp Trio, Growing Up Creepie, Grossology, and Kenny The Shark were my favorite shows during the Discovery Kids era.
Don’t forget Hi-5 USA!
@@zacharyhildebrandt4634 I remember that show too, it was pretty fun!
It’s kind of sad that the Hub ultimately got transformed into a dumping ground for more cheap reality show slop like every other network on TV.
I loved peep and the big wide world!! It was such an indoor recess staple. And wow i totally forgot about Kenny the Shark, that unlocked a memory.
I'm surprised that both Kenny the Shark and Tutenstein were the only Real Toons that survived on The Hub until they got pulled in 2012.
Quack was my favorite character, one episode made me laugh so hard I recorded it

i'm a huge aquabats fan, i got so excited for this video!! also as a fan i confirm there is no evil feud between the aquabats fans and tmbg fans. most of us are fans of both. if you had a venn diagram of tmbg and aquabats fans, it would be a nearly perfect circle.
this video is great, it covers everything i would want to see for a video about the hub!!!! i felt so nostalgic, especially during the promos section. i wish the hub lasted a little longer. great video :D

It feels weird being the kid who was introduced to Animaniacs with the Hub in 2013/14 but that's just how life works I guess.

I was introduced to the show when it was still on Netflix, so you're not the only weird one here
DUDEEE u aren’t the only one trust meee, 2013 I was a kid watching the hub thinking it was new meanwhile my mom knew it was older😂

Dan Vs. was that show I thought was "grown up" and with how unusually mature I was as a kid, I got most of the jokes. Felt cool watching it too 😂
As someone who lived in a country that just... never got the hub, we had Discovery kids for as long as I remember.
Well, since this is a reupload, I will post my comment with my thoughts again:
I absolutely loved this video.
Also It's funny how the HUB shows scattered all over different channels here in Latin America:
MLP: FiM was in Discovery Kids
Littlest Pet Shop was in Nickelodeon and Nicktoons
Transformers Prime and RID was on Cartoon Network
She-Zow i think was on Netflix
And Dan VS. Sadly never got a Spanish dub and It's only known as "That show where the protagonist is being used as the avatar of a Fake News page"
Viendo DK cada vez que voy a Mexico se siente chido :] Aun me da alegria de verlo porque me recuerda al Hub y tiene personalidad
RIP Hub
I had the vaugest memories as a baby/toddler of watching “the show that would always change it’s theme song” and for like, 10 years I had no idea what it was until I realised that Animaniacs used to air on the Hub, and I _loved_ the Hub
Overall, the network holds a special place in my heart, and this was a very good video 😭❤️
god i miss hub network :(
growing up on the hub is probably why i enjoyed the new strawberry shortcake, it has very dhx feeling animation and a ton of familiar voices, either from that golden era i loved as a kid or voices i recognize from the new mlp which just feels so right tbh, the cycle of "oh i know you as this pony" continues and it just takes me back
actually, what i want to know is, why does netflix only have the first 4 seasons of mlp. why is there less than half the entire series come on you're in that deep just commit like damn
nowadays when anyone talks about The Hub, some would automatically assume it was the other kind of hub
The Hub is actually how I first got into Transformers - Prime is still one of my favorite shows today. It’s definitely one of the most popular shows amongst Transformers fans. I watched LPS and MLP a lot too - so many great memories ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I loved The Hub! Without it I wouldn't have seen such great shows like MLP, LPS, Dan Vs. and Pound Puppies!
I use to loved hub too. I wouldn’t have got back into transformers without it. Plus the haunting hour was the main reason I love anthology horror shows
Well the old version is unlisted now so gonna redo my comment: Yay Haunting Hour/Spooksville acknowledged. I could go on for ages about those lol
Haunting Hour was what I got into the hub for, before MLP even.
seeing the twisted whiskers show brought back memories i wish i could have forgotten forever
I'm honestly bummed not seeing anyone else mention it, that show was my shit, was I the only kid that liked it lmao
@gunkhead No, Me and my younger sister used to watch it too(on HBO not the hub) but we would watch anything that had an animal in it.
Really informative.
according to wikipedia, only 3 of Qubo's shows were original... so yeah, not a lot to work with lol
but as someone who used to watch Qubo all the time back in the day, i'd still love to see someone do a deep dive into the history of the network
I always thought Dan VS was an adult cartoon I wasn't allowed to watch, I might give it a shot now!

the what🤨?
so you watched them in the early 2000s, then stopped in the mid 2000s???? and started again in the 2010s????
Yes.
The Hub was easily the most criminally underrated channel to ever exist. Not only do I remember watching G1 Transformers and Fraggle Rock reruns on here, but I vividly remember watching a ton of new MLP episodes when they were new on Saturdays (Not a Brony ;( )
YES
Fraggle Rock was awesome
Dan vs. was one of the most underrated shows I watched at the time, I rewatched the whole thing last summer and I found it hilarious
I honestly loved the whole video, especially the small history of discovery kids because that was my childhood channel before the hub (the way how I excitedly pointed at the screen when you mentioned time warp trio and Peep...)
There was just so much that I loved about this retrospective and I do agree that the hub was a channel that "you just had to be there" to fully understand how unique and special it was to a generation of kids in the early 2010's. And I'm proud to be apart of that generation :,3
Peep's Big World is the greatest show of our generation.
hey, this was an amazing video essay, i LOVED this network when it was still active, especially for Transformers and the game shows! (hell i was there for the 20-hour Megatron takeover they did leading up to a Transformers Prime event, think it was a finale) here's a few tidbits i know, especially towards the Aquabats and its Super Show :)
The Haunting Hour's actually an Emmy-winning series surprisingly enough, winning Outstanding Children's Program at the Daytime Emmys twice in a row in 2013 and 2014 (Aquabats was ALSO nominated for that in 2013)
afaik DEVO was a major inspiration for The Aquabats! it probably influenced the band going for a more new-wave direction for the sound, so seeing Mothersbaugh as a guest on their show was likely a huge honor to be bestowed upon.
The variety this channel put out in its short time was truly spectacular. You are missed Hub.
I loved the hub so much growing up. I originally started watching it because of my little pony but then I started to watch other shows like carebears, strawberry shortcake, littlest pet shop, pound puppies and this show called maryoku yummy that literally no one talks about. It is sad that the channel had such a short run
Dang, I remember watching Transformers Prime on The Hub when I was a kid.
Also, I slapped my hand over my mouth at the end of the "Ask Megatron" bit at 53:22
I think it’s cool that the bumpers give off a really cool Frutiger Aero vibe and I’m living for it.
In my case with comcast I had nick on 53, cartoon network on 54 And Disney on 55 hub was added to channel 121 when my family upgraded, it’s been like that for me since 2005

I love how Mark Mothersbaugh and MCR are so active with the Aquabats and Yo Gabba Gabba
also yes I remember the Incredible Crew, and my friend reminded me during an intermission at a musical we were doing together that Andrew WK was in Destroy Build Destroy which I had forgotten about for at least 10 years.
aquabats super show was my childhood im glad to see it finally recognized
I remember when the Hub first launched, I was there the day it changed from discovery. They had a number to call to "win prizes" but little 7 year old me always got told it was busy. I kept trying for hours and never go through to anyone-
In Brazil Discovery Kids still exists and is the biggest kids channel.
The hub is where I first watched classic WB shows like Animaniacs and Tiny Toons, which were very impactful for me. I’m always grateful for the hub for that
I’ll never forget stumbling upon the haunting hour at my grandmas house late late at night and being traumatized 😭
For some reason I remembered Lazy Town being included in the Hub’s lineup but I think I just assumed that because I thought aquabats looked similar
I remember The Hub. It was responsible for spawning a lot more cartoon fan bases. I was disappointed when they took it down.
The Hub has been working on their shows and brands for years and I grew up watching each of my childhood shows, especially My Little Pony
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾💖💖💖
Cried myself to sleep with this on in the background last night, very comforting. 10/10 would cry to this again 👍
I remember watching my little pony and lps in hub ✋️
The Hub Network was much more colorful and upbeat, I even remember someone saying that it brought together the old and new audiences. I wish I watched it more often when it was still around. I can't stand Discovery Family, I mean, what kind of TV Channel has animated TV shows and real life nature shows at the same freaking time?!
i actually basically only ever watched the hub for the board game gameshows... despite being at the right age for some of the cartoons at the time, none of them ever really appealed to me, but watching the gameshows with my family became a weekly thing! sometimes we'd even have our own board game nights while watching those shows too ^^
same
The hub was such a big part of my childhood and I’m so grateful. My little pony, strawberry shortcake, and all the shows were awesome. I loved the website and games and was so sad when it closed
