I love how you gave more of a personal review at the end of this video. I’d really like to hear more about your thoughts about if/why you like or don’t like a collection
Holy COW, Essie has stepped up their game this time around between the amazing formula and wider brush. I’m never impressed with Essie anymore, but these seem to have a great formula!
Mrs. Sesshomaru I picked up “Go with the flowy” which is from a winter collection from previous years & they had changed the brush in that polish. So I think they will be changing all of them! Thank God!
I have such a weird mix of wide and narrow nails. My pinky nail is SO TINY that Essie's old brush was fine for it, but a total annoyance for all my other nails. Anyway out of all of these, the dark blue is my favorite too. I want to put white glitter over it for winter.
The one I was thinking of isn't made anymore but should be easy to find on eBay: Sally Hansen Luxe Lace in "Eyelet." Otherwise I'm just gonna get some white matte glitters from etsy or somewhere and place them by hand.
Sally Hansen Xtreme wear in Mauve Over is a dupe for Zoya's Ruthie from their fall collection. I own both and side by side on the nail I can't find a difference. So, if you're wanting to save yourself $8....I paid under $2 for the SH at Target.
Great review Jess. I am so glad you guys have the Essie wide brushes now. Us Europeans have been spoiled for years! This is a beautiful collection I love them all except the silver metallic because I have something similar already :)
You’re so blessed & lucky! (: I have a friend/sister in Northern Ireland & she’s always had the wide brushes! Finally they’re bringing t to the US!👏👏😘💕
Oh no wonder, because here I was watching this review and thinking "but wait...my polishes have always had a really wide brush, is that going to be even wider now?". Then I read this comment and it all became clear haha. Guess we have been spoiled, I couldn't imagine having another Essie brush.
Sweden here, we've had the wide brush for years. I came across some with thin brushes, though they were fakes, didn't like them one bit. Now I finally understand why Essie get so bad reviews sometimes.
I must be the odd gal out here, but with my tiny nail beds, the old Essie brush worked great for me- new one is too wide and I wind up getting too much polish on the sides of my nails but I guess you can’t please everyone. I’ll just have to be careful when I’m applying the polish.
Hey Jess!! I have to 💯 agree with you about essie’s formula blaming it on that teeny tiny brush! I’ll give you girls a secret! I have a ton of the essie gel couture polishes. One day I thought that I would clean a bottle & brush, and use the gel couture brush in a regular essie polish. Guess what guys?! The gel couture brush fits perfectly with all the other Essie’s that have the thin brush! It fits as though it was made for them! Who knew?🤷♀️ but YES, please!🙋♀️ I thought all along that I had just a ton of horrible formulas, but I noticed that the more I swapped that tiny brush out for the GCL brushes, the formula’s went on like a D-R-E-A-M!!! So, if you guys have any gel couture brushes with some Essie’s that you were bummed bc you thought it was the formula, PLEASE TRY THIS!!! I think you’ll be AMAZED!😉 Let me know if anyone has done this, or finds it helpful. I’d LOVE to know!❤️ Thanks again Jess for the awesome swatches/video’s! Missed ya loads!🤗💕
Woman of a Certain Age Hey!!👋You know, I haven’t tried that with Ballet Slippers just yet bc I had given up on it and thought I was going to give it away, but it’s such a classic, beautiful color, I decided that I would keep it and try it with the gel couture brush! Please let me know if you tried it, and I’m crossing my fingers & toes-(lol) that Ballet Slippers actually has a great formula, and we can ALL blame it on that tiny brush!😂 I was just thinking, this is the Queen of England’s favorite nail polish. If she does it herself, I can’t imagine her, or anyone for that matter applying it all of the time with that skinny brush. I believe England has the wider brushes all in the UK🇬🇧! Lucky them! (: Let me know!💕
I agree the brush is almost a bit too wide but a lot better! I’m so happy they did that. I’d been wanting S’il Vous Play for months and then they re-released it with the wider brush. It was meant to be.
found these at Wal-Mart yesterday so I picked up 4, I have Zoya Jenna so no pink and I am not found of silver metalic so skipped that as well, But I bought Stop, shop and Drop which I am wearing already and I love this one on skin, Fall For NYC, Say It Ain't Soho, Booties on Broadway. I believe I will be wearing these quite often this fall..I ready love them.
I just purchased Say it ain't Soho and its freaking beautiful irl. The new brush is a much needed update, however I do agree, it is a touch too thick. Still, it us better than nothing
Essie out did them selves with this collection! and thank god they finally changed their brush!! thanks for your review, I'm adding most of these to my list!
I wish they would sell these brushes so I could replace them in all my other Essies!! A girl can dream I suppose. Also I'm positively drooling over Booties On Broadway and Say It Ain't Soho is gorgeous is well.
Is this the first collection with the new brush? Im sooo excited. I havent bought an Essie polish in soooo long, partially because of the brush. I never buy China Glaze polishes anymore because I just hate the brush so much. So Im really excited Essie changed theirs!
Ohhh i'm excited about their new brush. In my collection of almost 300 polishes, i have like 2-3 essie and i never reach for them because I always believed their formula to be horrible+bad brush. Now I might actually buy a few to test them out. My nails are about the same size as yours so I believe the new brush will be an improvement. One of my favorite brands is Zoya and if it wasn't for their skinny brush they'd be hands down favorite cause their formulas are just amazing.
Essie's skinny brush was the worst! I've got other polishes with similar brushes, but Essie's just seemed dreadful. Maybe it was brush and formula together, like you said. But it seems amazing that they've gone for so long with the same brush/formula combo, then miraculously discovered how to make decent polish just as they change their brush? I love 'Say It Ain't Soho' - it is gorgeous, and I'm considering buying an Essie! The angels are singing!
Actually in recent years Essie has for the most part stepped up their formula game. They still have the one off thin or streaky polish but I can recall the turning point a few years ago when they released a fall collection of almost complete one coater polishes with beautiful formulas. I've always been a fan of Essie because I love the colors and was often willing to deal with a less than stellar formula, but in the last 3 or 4 years haven't been noticing that much of difficulty anymore. Granted, I lean toward darker shades which tend to have better formulas in general but even their lighter colors seem to have improved.
Definitely going to get Say It Ain’t Soho and Booties On Broadway. I love After School Boy Blazer too, but Booties On Broadway might just be my new favourite for me as well. Great video Jess, love you! Xx 😘
I knew I was gonna get Say it ain't Soho, but I think I'll get Fall for NYC as well for nail art. I wonder if Fall for NYC and especially Empire Shade of Mind wouldn't make for good stamping polishes, I feel with Empire Shade of Mind it would definitely work since it's a one coater.
I bought this collection except the first pink and I also bought the soda pop collection and I LOVE the new brush. I also have wide nail beds so I’m happy.
I actually just used wide brushes on my nails for the first time. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel (Street Flair) and Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy (Win Big). And WOW have I been missing out! Both have the ability to be one-coaters and all my nails were painted so quick! I was done with Essie bc they never applied well and they are 9 bucks. I guess this wide brush makes a huge difference! Maybe I'll be buying Essie again in the future.
New Zealand had the new brush ages ago... but we only just got the Dressed to the Nineties collection maybe two months ago... I was super keen for the yellow but now you compared it to an actual yellow I can’t unsee the orange in it. Love say it ain’t soho and probably will pick up the not mustard orange.
That's so funny. We've always had wide brushes on Essies here and Essie is definitely my favourite brand of nail polish. It's weird to me that you would say they had a reputation of hit or miss formulas lol but then if I compare the brush to the one of China Glaze... totally get it.
The stop drop and shop one... I wouldn’t really name it that if I were working at Esau I’d name it something like “Apple” or something with apples since Apple have to do with fall not shopping...
Love your videos! I bought the mustard yellow one thinking the same thing and I thought, I have this color and I do. it is very close to OPI Freedom of Peach, definitely more orange than mustard yellow! But I love the color anyway.
How do you get such perfect coats when you pain your nails?! Any tips? Is it just practice?? Like how do you not get any streaks because no matter how hard I try I can never get a perfect coat without streaks!
I'm so sad.... I would like them all, but apparently they've not come out in Italy... I'm looking for them but there's no trace of them anywhere, even in the stores which usually sell Essie polishes :-(
I'm holding off on buying any Essie polishes until they update their whole collection with wide brushes. It has taken them a while to have the US catch up with the UK (I believe they had the wide brushes before)
Here in Europe Essie has been selling them with wide brushes for a while. Not only are you getting the brush, it's the European cap. The name is on top of the cap, unlike the old US versions that had the name on the bottom of the bottle.
WOW! The orange “Fall For NYC” totally was a mustard yellow in my mind too until you put it against the China Glaze! Now I can’t see the Essie as anything but Mac-and-cheese ORANGE! Lol!
They are just so SKINNY. It's hard to get good coverage in my experience. And I have several really nice polishes by them; it's just that brush that drives me nuts.
I like wider brushes on the whole but China Glaze brushes aren’t a deal breaker for me. Essie’s old skinny brishes were so bad I stopped buying Essie altogether. No color was worrh the hassle. I’ve never hated China Glaze brushes the way I hate Essie’s skinny brushes.
Oh, I still buy China Glaze, IN SPITE of the brush. Other than Good-to-Go topcoat, I've only owned 2 Essie polishes (which were gifts); 1 is good (Trophy Wife), the other is beautiful but chips w/in a day (Toggle To the Top). That & the fact that they're not cruelty-free has kept me from buying more.
Yeah, but maybe if the US is getting the European caps (names on top of the cap instead of the bottom of the bottle included) maybe we can finally get the US shades? I don't really know why some shades like Fiji look completely different, maybe they use ingredients that are banned in Europe???
I just realised, it's not only the wider brush the US is getting. Here in Europe the names are on the cap as well, the US versions I've seen in videos always had the e on top of the cap and the name at the bottom of the bottle. This makes me think they're just using the European caps. Is it weird this surprises me? It makes total sense economically alone to just buy more of the same style caps instead of only changing the wand inside a cap.
Carina S It depends on where you buy the bottle. If you buy it in a retail store like Target or Walmart the name is on top. If you buy it at a salon like place or Ulta it is on the bottom
Can anyone recommend an OPI dupe for ‘fall for NYC’? I love the colour, but Essie’s polishes only last one day on my nails while OPI ones last almost a week. Thanks! 😘
Would you compare the pink in this collection to OPI’s Sparrow Me the Drama as far as the dusty pink goes? Not a specific dupe but close enough you wouldn’t need both?
That's def orange. Even the website describes it as mustard yellow. And mint candy apple is totes blue. I think someone working there is color blind just a little.
I love how you gave more of a personal review at the end of this video. I’d really like to hear more about your thoughts about if/why you like or don’t like a collection
I didn't understand why essie and people that have fall for NYC called it a mustard yellow. As soon as I saw it I thought it was orange.
Right 😂 maybe they should have called it mustard orange
Holy COW, Essie has stepped up their game this time around between the amazing formula and wider brush. I’m never impressed with Essie anymore, but these seem to have a great formula!
OMG you're my new nail polish queen! I love that there are still people here on YT that prefer regular nail polish than gel/acrylic nails.
I'm so glad they changed the brush. Do you know if they'll be replacing all their polishes with the new brush even if its not a new collection?
Mrs. Sesshomaru I picked up “Go with the flowy” which is from a winter collection from previous years & they had changed the brush in that polish. So I think they will be changing all of them! Thank God!
Awesome! Thanks for answering!
Yes
As far as I know it's all Essie polishes going forward :)
I know! I’ve been dying for them to change the brush, so YES, YESSIE, ESSIE!!!😍👏👏✨🙌
I have such a weird mix of wide and narrow nails. My pinky nail is SO TINY that Essie's old brush was fine for it, but a total annoyance for all my other nails. Anyway out of all of these, the dark blue is my favorite too. I want to put white glitter over it for winter.
Tippi B which white glitter would you recommend?
The one I was thinking of isn't made anymore but should be easy to find on eBay: Sally Hansen Luxe Lace in "Eyelet." Otherwise I'm just gonna get some white matte glitters from etsy or somewhere and place them by hand.
Me too, my pinky is tiny but my thumbnails are HUGE LOL
Sally Hansen Xtreme wear in Mauve Over is a dupe for Zoya's Ruthie from their fall collection. I own both and side by side on the nail I can't find a difference. So, if you're wanting to save yourself $8....I paid under $2 for the SH at Target.
I love say it ain’t soho, especially because of the name it reminds me of a weezer song lol but the color is gorgeous!
Mayra Palomares omg i also thought of that when I picked it up the other day
That orange is like Kraft Mac & Cheese orange it's nuts
Ashley Bruno ok now I’m buying it because I LOVE Mac n cheese! Lol 🤣
Great review Jess. I am so glad you guys have the Essie wide brushes now. Us Europeans have been spoiled for years! This is a beautiful collection I love them all except the silver metallic because I have something similar already :)
I'm in England, but don't own an Essie with a wide brush. Admittedly, I only have a handful of Essies, as I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.
Cathy Cl Yes, my friend! You have been BLESSED with that wider brush! Lol☺️

I love how the larger brushes apply the polish, but they are so hard to use for my toes!
I literally gasped at the swatch of that navy blue. It's weird to think that such a simple color could be so beautiful.
Thanks again Jess for the awesome swatches/video’s! Missed ya loads!🤗💕
I'd like to try this with Ballet Slippers, which I find goes on super patchy -- maybe it's the brush?!
Woman of a Certain Age Hey!!👋You know, I haven’t tried that with Ballet Slippers just yet bc I had given up on it and thought I was going to give it away, but it’s such a classic, beautiful color, I decided that I would keep it and try it with the gel couture brush! That thick brush...😍
I agree the brush is almost a bit too wide but a lot better! I’m so happy they did that. I’d been wanting S’il Vous Play for months and then they re-released it with the wider brush. It was meant to be.
Oeh 'Fall for NYC' is my fave!
Such an irregular fall shade
I'd agree with you on the brush/formula thing coz here in Europe Essie is known for its reliable formula.
Yeah, but some shades are different, like Fiji. I wonder if that's because they used ingredients that are banned in Europe?
found these at Wal-Mart yesterday so I picked up 4, I have Zoya Jenna so no pink and I am not found of silver metalic so skipped that as well, But I bought Stop, shop and Drop which I am wearing already and I love this one on skin, Fall For NYC, Say It Ain't Soho, Booties on Broadway. I believe I will be wearing these quite often this fall..I ready love them.
Seems like Essie knocked it out of the park with this collection. Wild what a better brush will do for a polish.
Essie + Wide Brush = PERFECTION!!! I love the last three polishes!!!! Thank you Jess!
I just purchased Say it ain't Soho and its freaking beautiful irl. The new brush is a much needed update, however I do agree, it is a touch too thick. Still, it us better than nothing
I think, after all these years I prefer zoya and essie even over opi - great video as usual 🎀
Never got what the hype was about OPI
That China glaze mustard yellow WILL. BE. MINE. !!!!! I’m obsessed with mustard yellow, pumpkin nail polishes!!
That brush looks AMAZING! 🎀🎀 Thats the brush I wish China Glaze had.
Essie out did them selves with this collection! and thank god they finally changed their brush!! thanks for your review, I'm adding most of these to my list!
Omg these are soooo nice! I just picked up the Essie winter collection and can’t wait to wear it!
Their TLC collection (which is awesome btw) also has the wide brushes. Those were released a few months ago.
I wish they would sell these brushes so I could replace them in all my other Essies!! A girl can dream I suppose.
Also I'm positively drooling over Booties On Broadway and Say It Ain't Soho is gorgeous is well.
I love *say it ain't Soho* . I immediately noticed the width of the brush changed but it's still good.
Is this the first collection with the new brush? Im sooo excited. I havent bought an Essie polish in soooo long, partially because of the brush. I never buy China Glaze polishes anymore because I just hate the brush so much. So Im really excited Essie changed theirs!
I’m loving that Booties on Broadway! I’m so glad they changed the brush, too.
I guess I'm just weird but I miss the days where the name of the polish actually gives you somewhat of an idea of the color.
Me too!!
AgendaCompleteBliss !! Me, three!🙋♀️💕
Me four 😢
...5
I saw the entire Essie Fall 2018 Collection at my local Walgreens
I really like the look of Say It Ain't Soho!
Ohhh i'm excited about their new brush. In my collection of almost 300 polishes, i have like 2-3 essie and i never reach for them because I always believed their formula to be horrible+bad brush. That's really interesting - I've been avoiding even looking at Essie! I don't need to now!
I love Fall for NYC, it’s like a pastel pumpkin color
Booties on Broadway is amazing! Thanks for this video
Definitely going to get Say It Ain’t Soho and Booties On Broadway. I love After School Boy Blazer too, but Booties On Broadway might just be my new favourite for me as well. Great video Jess, love you! Xx 😘
Wow it's a miracle!!!! Now China Glaze needs to come on board.
Say it ain’t soho is gorgeous!!
Holy cow, for the first time ever I want to pick up some Essie polishes!
Just picked up say it ain`t soho and i love it
Is Essie going to sell replacement brushes?? I need like 100 of them!
The copper is so gorgeous
I wish you did orly, I'm really liking g it right now.
Ooooooh!!! The new brushes look divine!!
Ulta is calling Fall For NYC a mustard yellow with marigold highlights so...officially you can add it to your Essie yellow collection!
This is very nice video. Comparison or dupes. Great!
Empire Shade of Mind is my favorite 🖤
I see black in that silver
What a breakthrough of formula and brush!
That's so funny. We've always had wide brushes on Essies here and Essie is definitely my favourite brand of nail polish. It's weird to me that you would say they had a reputation of hit or miss formulas lol but then if I compare the brush to the one of China Glaze... totally get it.
Omg why can’t all Essie formulas be this opaque 🤤 can’t wait to try the new brush
I am impressed! Love the brush!
Omg that Orange 😍
Bootys on broadway looks so good! Thank you for this review
Can you do an updated nail care routine?
Say It Ain't Soho is my favorite. The right amount of sparkle with the right amount of fall colors. :D
I actually love this full collection
Is booties on Broadway a stainer? I love it!
Love the new brush!! Bought an Essie in the U.K. this summer and I love the brush. I also thought the formula was better. 🤷🏼♀️
The stop drop and shop one... I wouldn’t really name it that if I were working at Esau I’d name it something like “Apple” or something with apples since Apple have to do with fall not shopping...
Tfs. Yay. Finally a wider brush. After 2 full drawers of Essie with skinny brushes...but oh well.
Same here Jess! I thought the teal low would be a mustard yellow not a radioactive mac&cheese orange 🤣
Does it dry quickly? I only have had one Essie polish before. It dried super slow.
Love your videos! I bought the mustard yellow one thinking the same thing and I thought, I have this color and I do. it is very close to OPI Freedom of Peach, definitely more orange than mustard yellow! But I love the color anyway.
I can see why people would say nyc looks yellow but i also see orange. I see more orange though but i did notice yellow
Does the blue polish stain your nails? You didn’t mention it in the video, most blue polishes stain my nails just wanted to know if it’s a stainer
I want Empire Shade of Mind!! ❤❤
How do you get such perfect coats when you pain your nails?! Any tips? Is it just practice?? Like how do you not get any streaks because no matter how hard I try I can never get a perfect coat without streaks!
Empire shade of mind..... lol love the name
I'm so sad.... I would like them all, but apparently they've not come out in Italy... I'm looking for them but there's no trace of them anywhere, even in the stores which usually sell Essie polishes :-(
Fall for nyc is a pumpkin color for me, pumpkin shake
Would you say the reddish looking one is like KL polish brick sidewalk ?
I'm holding off on buying any Essie polishes until they update their whole collection with wide brushes. It has taken them a while to have the US catch up with the UK (I believe they had the wide brushes before)
Here in Europe Essie has been selling them with wide brushes for a while. Not only are you getting the brush, it's the European cap. The name is on top of the cap, unlike the old US versions that had the name on the bottom of the bottle.
@@CarinaCoffee I think we already have the names on the top, I'm just waiting for the brush update. EU got it good
Have you reviewed the Loubiton bottle behind you before if so post link.
Say It Ain't Soho looks just like OPI Now You Museum Now You Don't. I wonder how close they really are?
I love Say It Ain't Soho. It reminds me of a color called Playing Koi.
I wonder how does stop drop and shop compare to OPI my solar clocks is ticking?
WOW! The orange “Fall For NYC” totally was a mustard yellow in my mind too until you put it against the China Glaze! Now I can’t see the Essie as anything but Mac-and-cheese ORANGE! Lol!
which last long? this essie or the essie gel couture?
Say it ain’t Soho! 😍😍😍
Overall I think this a great collection and finally you get the new brushes we’ve been enjoying for a while :) x
Fall For NYC sort of reminds me of squash.
China Glaze brushes are AWFUL, BTW.
I dont understand how you thought it was yellow. It is clearly orange or am I wrong?
So funny because we’ve always had the wide brush in England
Yeah, but maybe if the US is getting the European caps (names on top of the cap instead of the bottom of the bottle included) maybe we can finally get the US shades? I don't really know why some shades like Fiji look completely different, maybe they use ingredients that are banned in Europe???
Love this collection so much!!!!!!!
I just realised, it's not only the wider brush the US is getting.
I like the last four the best. Booties on Broadway 💙
I like Say It Ain't SoHo & Booties on Broadway.
I stopped 12 seconds into the video just to say Loving loving looooving💓💓💓 the hoodie!!!!!!!!!! Ok let's resume...
That's def orange. Even the website describes it as mustard yellow. And mint candy apple is totes blue. I think someone working there is color blind just a little.
