Im 51 and was going through a spell of deep depression... I heard Rock Believer and felt alive again. Bought the CD and love it. I bought a bunch of old stuff again I loved when I was younger. Getting back into UFO and Deep Purple again too. Im feeling better these past few days.
Hey Daniel, I bought Uli Jon Roth's scorpions revisited...wow that is so amazing!
Music is the best!
Glad the magic of music made you feel better my friend.
The healing power of rock!! All the best to you.
@@datagod I will get that too. Virgin Killer is my favorite Scorpion's record.
Best scorpions album in decades!
8.5/9 for me🔥
Klaus still sounds amazing!! Terrific voice!!
This is a shockingly good album for a band that was talking about retiring a few years ago, and whose members are currently in their 70's. "Rock Believer is just a damn good heavy rock album, period. The songs are catchy with loads of good fist-pumping guitar muscle, and the songs just crackle with energy. And how the hell does Klaus Meine still sound so good at 73 years old!?
So you are saying that I should make allowances for the quality of music output just because the musicians creating that music are old?
I have absolutely no problem with good musicians pumping out music over 50 years or more as long as there are people out there who enjoy it.
But I have seen most of these "classic" bands right from their very early days in the mid- to late-1970's through to the early 1980's and most of them are well over their peak now.
AC/DC, Queensryche, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple and a few others have, in the last 30 or so years, put out albums that, at best, have maybe had one or two good tracks on them with most of it being filler.
If I can grab "Back In Black", "Operation Mindcrime", "Lovedrive", "Number Of The Beast", "Burn", "Perfect Strangers", "Machine Head", "Highway To Hell" or many other 5 star albums from these bands that will engage me from start to finish, why am I then going to put on a second rate later album instead?
As a fan of all of those bands, there's only so long I can wait in expectation for them to put out a "new five star album" and I really am not holding out any hopes because they are well over their peak now.
They are not all in their 70's though. In fact, only Klaus and Rudolf are.
I agree it is a really good album but I don’t know what is so shocking about that. They have proven time and time again for several decades that they are capable of putting out great material
So happy to hear you liked it as well! Like you say, they worked to get back to the sound of 70's/ 80's and I really love to hear Jabs having his freedom again in the background of the songs. Kind of a trademark of Scorpions from back in the days. And Dee is filling the boots of the drummer almost like he's been there all the time. So great to hear them in this form...age is just a number.
I think they've had several great albums since their peak, but I think this one stands out in a way that I immediately had to re-listen to the entire album and then some after finishing it... I did get Blackout, Animal Magnetism and Crazy World vibes from several songs and there's a lot of lead playing from Matthias... This one surprised me because I noticed the past few albums they seemed to have a more age-appropriate, classy sound... The whole band sounds at least 15 years younger on this record... Knock 'em Dead is one of my favorites, that's the riffing I wanna hear from Scorpions... I wouldn't throw away a single track and now I'm excited to hear all the bonus tracks they have for this album because there's supposedly tons of them like on the last one..
Pete, pick up the Deluxe version of the album. In my opinion they left some of the stronger tracks off the standard release.
I like how the album title is a nod to the classic Scorps track Steamrock Fever.
Oh, and thanks for turning me on to the Uli years. I never explored their earlier output until I started watching SOT. Now I can't get enough of those albums.
I haven't really cared about Scorpions' studio albums since Love At First Sting (although their gigs have been always awesome, no matter which phase!). This new album changed my perspective completely, so many strong songs, no wonder they had to release a double CD version and are using some extra (good) songs as bonus tracks for different theaters. Kudos to them!
Bonus tracks are good.
I have found out about this album about a week ago, listened to it and proceeded to purchase the deluxe version a few days later after just a listen. That was their first album I have purchased in 25 years.
Excelentes comentarios. Como siempre!!!! Muchas gracias!!!!
Shining of your soul reminds me of Is There Anybody there. That reggae feel!
I have to say i bought this album blind and im in love with it. I think its just that ❤good. Like you always say everbody hears things in their own way. The deluxe cd set was worth the extra money i paid for it and i got 4 extra songs which i think are great
I played this album. I definitely liked it. As usual, tremendous review PETE. For a soon to be 74 year old at Five feet 4 inches, KLAUS can still bring it. 👍💯
WTF does the dude’s height have to do with his singing ability? Do you think it makes it more difficult to reach the high notes? 🙄
Got the expanded 2 Cd.
Great tracks on the second disk.
Made me appreciate the tracks on the first.
My fave Scorpions album is probably Savage Amusement but I loved Sting in The Tail.
I had to buy it as a fan since the 70’s and was not disappointed! This’ll probably be one of the albums of the summer for classic hard rock fans. Good accurate review.
top 10 Scorpions albums
Just listened to this the other day - a really enjoyable return to form.
Hey Pete. Great review. Love the Scorps. I agree with you about their catalog, especially the last 20-25 years. Good stuff. Question for you. Are you getting the 40th Anniversary boxed set of Moving Pictures? It's just been released and it sounds like a sweet package including live shows, interviews, remastered music, etc. If you do get it, I can't wait to hear your review of it. All your S.O.T. fans are probably waiting for it as well.
I just got done listening to Rock Believer, my god I love it. I’d definitely say it is their best work since Love at First Sting. There’s 15 tracks on the album and I love 10 of them.
Favourite tracks.
1. Rock Believer
2. When You Know Where you come from
3. Peacemaker
4. Seventh Sun
5. Gas in the Tank
6. Shining of your soul
7. Shoot for your heart
8. Knock’em dead
9. Crossing borders
10. Call of the Wild
I've always liked the Scorpions but they were never my favorite. The older I get I really dive into the older bands new albums. I ordered the deluxe lp to get more tracks. The more I listen the better It gets. Seventh Sun and Rock Beliver are the stars. The think I like about the order bands is they know who they are and you know what your going to get. Spot on review Pete.
Just the fact that the Scorps are releasing a new album is something to be happy about; now, if additionally, said album is fantastic (as is the case) well I'd say that's more than enough reason to open a few beers and celebrate! 🍺🍺🤘
Spot on Pete! Honestly I was expecting to be blown away based on all the reviews I've been seeing. It was fine. I'd probably like it more with a few more listens, but I don't really feel compelled to go back to it anytime soon.
Funny you brought up WIND of CHANGE, my wife hates my music, but loves this tune. Lol. We register on two different spectrums musically . Lol. But like the soon to be tee- shirt will say “ WE all HEAR 👂 things Differently!! Lol 👍💯
First scorpions cd I’ve purchased since Love at first sting came out.
Look forward to hearing it in full.👍🎶
I'm playing it again right now! ;). MY FAVES Gas in The Tank, Knock em Dead, Seventh Son, Shoot for your heart, Peacemaker, Hot n Cold
Spot on analysis Pete. I like Unbreakable and Humanity Hour 1 but Sting in the Tail and Return to Forever were a step down. I still like savage Amusement but get with anything after that until 2004. I think this is somewhere between a 7 or 8 out of 10 (I mark Unbreakable this high). It's a good record and I going to them in Munich in June. Agree about the ballad. Classic Scorps end of album special!
Great review Pete. I have the same exact opinion. It's not a bad album by no means but is/was it a bit hyped up? Yes. I'll enjoy it for what it is and it's better than a lot of the more recent releases by Scorpions but that's not really a high standard.
Another SOLID review Pete.
Definitely an album of the year candidate early on with Saxon. And easily my favorite Scorpions album since Crazy World.
The last good album was Crazy World. You've got my interested.
Just received my two disc set today. Looking forward to listening to it. I have been a Scorpions fan since Lonesome Crow. Anticipating a return to the 70s and early 80s vintage Scorpions. I appreciate your honest, agenda free, opinion.
Two disc set? Help me out- what is the difference between the 2 disc set and the single disc set? More songs? Outtakes....what?
@@dancalmpeaceful3903 Disc 2 has 5 additional songs. 4 new songs:
Shoot for Your Heart
When Tomorrow Comes
Unleash the Beast
Crossing Borders
And 1 acoustic remix of:
When You Know (Where You Come From)
@@denniscook9032 Okay....so the big question - is it worth it to get the "deluxe" edition with the 2nd disc (I"m not too worried about paying the extra money)? Let me know if you would...Thanks!
@@denniscook9032 And yes...I own every Scorp album plus a few bootlegs...and seen 'em 4 times...and that's STILL not enough.
@@dancalmpeaceful3903 It is worth buying the deluxe copy, especially for a true Scorpions fan. The 4 additional songs are definitely strong songs, not just added fluff.
Yes I went through that and re-discovering rock music helped me
Good luck
Can’t wait! The album jus gotta see the Tranquillity on! 🤘🏾
I am with you Pete, pleasantly surprised good solid album 👌.
Just got this today and agree, solid album. Seventh Son also my favorite track, heard it on iTunes and that convinced me to buy the LP.
I guess these guys really do have some gas left in the tank.
Waiting for mine in the mail. And full disclosure: "Love at First Sting" remains my favorite. First Scorpions album I owned and still the best IMHO. The new album that has surprised me with so many good reviews is the Jethro Tull album. Because the more I listen to it, the weaker it sounds.
Love at First Sting’s my favourite from them too. So damn catchy! I was disappointed when I heard the song Rock Believer as it sounded very generic to me, but I’ll give the album a chance.
Yeah, Ian Anderson’s Death Fart.. I mean Jethro Dull isn’t cutting it with The Zealot Gene. It seems Martin Barre took all the fire, balls and dynamics with him when he was unceremoniously dumped for lesser (read: cheaper) guitarists. You get what you pay for, old codger.
@@cameronsmith8328 - For me, Love at First Sting is overrated. It’s a good album, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t have a prayer of stacking up next to Blackout, Animal Magnetism, Lovedrive, Taken By Force, Virgin Killer or In Trance, IMO.
@@crusheverything4449 I didn’t say it was their best, just my favourite. I love those albums you’ve mentioned too.👍
@@cameronsmith8328 - So, they have an album you think is better that you don’t like as much? Okay.
This album is so much better than I expected....agree with you on the great bass sound and performance! Everybody is bringing their A Game!
I liked so much this new album that I bought the deluxe version cd and the vinyl 🤘🎧
Great album! The deluxe album is worth the extra tracks.
Rock Believer is a awesome Scorpions album and There is a Deluxe Edition album of Rock Believer.
Good review Pete, but I think you undersold’Shining of Your Soul’. That song absolutely kicks ass and is my personal favorite on the album. I love that riff throughout the tune. It reminds me of a Middle Eastern tinged riff that Dio era Rainbow or even Iron Maiden would come up with. Just fantastic! Thanks again for the great reviews today.
I agree, one of the strongest tracks here.
Shining of Your Soul for me is one of the best Scorpion's songs ever ....a 16-track album is splendid ....wow ...I am so so glad that in my opinion this is their best album in nearly last 40 years....
I don't know why I have such high hopes for this. I haven't liked anything since Savage Amusement (& only a few tracks on that). Actually, everything you said about their last 35 years is how I feel. I'm not sure if I'll get this or not. I have a feeling I'll still grab Virgin Killer or Tokyo Tapes when I want some Scorpions.
Edit: OK, I ordered it after your review. :) Thanks for the video!
I really like Savage Amusement..especially the one side....
I only have 1 Scorpions album ... Blackout (on tape!) and I've never found an album worth buying since that purchase... what do you recommend Pete?
Picked the album up today. Good album. Sounds like mid 80's Scorpions to me
Great review Pete! Agree with all your thoughts on this release.Might or might not be on your radar but, Beth Hart/ tribute to Led Zeppelin is awesome!I know there’s a million Zep tribute albums out there. This one is really good!
Beth Hart is a force of nature! She’s easily one of the greatest living singers and performers. Going to see her Saturday night at Foxwoods Casino in CT. The show was originally scheduled for 2019. F U, COVID.
You're missing the 5 track bonus disc, a couple of killers on there Pete
Pete, in a time we need a band like the Scorpions to give us something to believe in they do it aces! And we'll it may not be a 5 out of 5 it's not a 3 or 4. It's easily a 4 1/2 !! Pete, I'm surprised you didn't get the track " Shining of your soul. Well possibly the most catch kick ass riff on the album. It's definitely was inspired by there killer song "Is there anybody there" off of Love drive. You should of caught that. It's kick ass rock with a hint of reggae, just like Is there anybody there. Come on world let's show the word we are Rock Believers. Yeah!!!
Love this album. Love the whole album. Haven't listen to the Scorpions in over ten years. I was a huge fan of there in the eighties. Yes this brings me back to the late seventies and early eighties. Even there lyrics the mention Love drive, Black out and Bad boy running wild. Pretty cool. A lot of people do say its one of there best since the eighties. They don't give Unbreakable enough credit. I think it was a solid album.
Unbreakable wasn't really all that bad at all. I thought it was decent....
Thank you, Pete for your review.
All the damn time.
I bought the Scorpions - Rock Believer CD at my local record store. Love it !! I give it a 5 star *****rating !!
I love the Scorpion’s and they rock !!
Im a Rock Believer !!
🎤🎸🎵🥁
Life is better with music.
Can't wait to get this cd. Nice to hear that Klaus is still a powerhouse
Can't wait to stick this in my player after all the positive reviews I've heard/read. Problem is I can't get the latest albums by Saxon and Magnum off my system at the moment.
Totally agree with you, it’s a really good album. Imo the best since Love at first sting - but to be fair, I did not like anything ever since a lot. Some excellent tracks on this one, & a few that aren’t - and that’s so much better than I thought! I really too didn’t have any interest in new Scorpions material but I dig this!
Pete, why does your cd only have 11 tracks? The release has 16 tracks on it.
You have the deluxe edition...I don't.
Scorpions are my favorite band of all-time so my opinion is biased. I just feel that most of their work from 2000 until now is so underrated. Like this video said, none of those albums are world changers by any means but they all have at least 5 songs each that are just outstanding.
Saxon, Magnum, Scorpions and before that circa 2018 - 2021 Uriah Heep, Tygers of Pan Tang, Deep Purple (not counting the last cover album), Iron Maiden (polarized views)....the list goes on...
Rock Believer is the best Scorpions album since Crazy World. My favorites are Call of the wild,Crossing Borders,Shoot for your Heart,Hot and Cold,Knock em 'dead,Gas in the tank. Unbreakable is the second in the last three decades. Savage Amusement is a really good record with strong and great songs like Rythm of love,Passion Rules the Game,Don't stop at the top,Love on the Run.
Are they referencing "steamrock fever" thrilling Rock Believers?
I can't believe how great this album is! I really do think it is their best since Love At First Sting. No doubt! Really works as a full album. I find that the songs I thought were ok are fast becoming my faves. Rocks!!!
If you have the time, listen to their album Unbreakable from 2004. It's better than the new album
@@dieseldust27 Unbreakable's good, but really only 4 outstanding songs "Love 'em or Leave 'em", "Deep and Dark", "Blood Too Hot","Through My Eyes"... you can add NG and Remember the good times... the 2 ballads are forgettable. Rock Believer's better, even Sting in the tail, let alone Humanity Hour I
There's gas in the tank. And out it went the at the other end.... LOL
Check out the bonus tracks on the deluxe version. 4 out of the 5 kick ass!
Pete
Are we getting a review of the new Voi Vod?
A great album, looking forward to your review
I’ve been holding on picking this one up based on a few of the early tracks being kind of mellow. I was expecting something more energetic with the addition of Mikkey Dee. With this review I’m more interested in getting it. Thanks for your insights
Nice. I'm just listening to it now.. first track via their lyric video. omg, the lyrics are comical. hahah I'm not even sure what "black me in, black me out" even means and I'm too scared to Google it. 🤣
Holy cow, I thought I misheard you when you said Mikkey Dee, but seeing the video of Rock Believer, I was like, hang on, I know that hair...
Oh yeah, Seventh Sun is a cool track.
Peacemaker...
yeah ok, I'm digging this. It's on my to-buy list now. :)
Good review Pete. I like the album but I don't think it's a true return to form. To these ears it sounds very similar to their last two albums, which also had some great songs but also some filler. Feels to me like part of a trilogy: Sting in the Tail, Return to Forever & Rock Believer. 👍
this is a fantastic album, for me it already ranks up there as one of there best, some stand out tracks-Shining of your soul, Seventh Sun
Scream for me, screamer!!!
It's a good album one of the strongest scorpions releases in the last 30 years or so but that's more of a testament to the lack of quality in their albums since then than the quality of this one. Standalone, it's just solid with a few tracks that I like and a few generic or substandard ones. This band means a lot to me as they were the first hard rock/metal band i got into. Overall, I view this album as an improvement over the last few releases.
I quit listening to Scorpions after Crazy World, but I'm definitely gonna check this one out.
I like the album. The praise it gets might be exaggerated to some extent, but it's still good. Probably their best album since Unbreakable, which for me still tops the list of their modern era. Very underrated album. Rock Believer is without a doubt nr 2 from the modern era though. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they actually wrote the songs themselves this time (as they did on Unbreakable) and didn't use outside songwriting teams. The quality is instantly higher when Klaus and Rudolf write the songs.
You need to listen to the second cd deluxe version..so great song too
Good review. All good to know.
Thank you Pete!!!!*
like Judas priest did with redeemer of souls. Scorpions did the same thing with rock believe by release 2 version of the album. the single cd's version and deluxe edition with a couple extra track plus a acoustic version of when you know
Nice t shirt... Love em.
I was expecting another generic Scorpions album but have to say this grabbed me from track 1 right through to track 11. I thought it was consistently good throughout - enough to make me go straight out and buy the vinyl version. Great production, great vocals, great guitar sound, good songs. Yep, worth rating 8/10.
'Seventh Sun' is also my favorite track on this album. I rate Rock Believer 4/5. In my opinion, it's their best album since Crazy World, that is to say their best record in 32 years ! Since their glory days (late seventies - early eighties) Scorpions have released a solid album every decade : Crazy World - Unbreakable - Sting in the Tail - Rock Believer.
Humanity Hour 1 shits all over Sting in the Tail, IMO.
I agree totally with your review Pete!! The best album, since the 90’s!!!
A great album indeed, they have returned to form, powerful and melodic, like the early 80s.
I think this a very good album. I’d give it a 4/5. I like that there are still some uptempo tunes and Matthias Jabs guitar leads sound awesome.
This Scorpion album does make you a ROCK BELIEVER for sure:)
Pete Pardo: Wearing freakin’ awesome shirts ALL THE DAMN TIME!!!
What I love about this album is this is the post-Savage Amusement album that the almost all the songs are composed solely by Scorpions personnels, just like old time.
I'll agree with the other comments - it's one of their best - up there with "Blackout" and "Love at First Sting". The 3rd song "Knock Em' Dead" gets me going - the main riff is totally their sound.
Is it just me or does the cover somehow make reference to the Stones' 'Goats Head Soup'?
Roots In My Boots is a great track great riff up tempo Klaus sounds great clean your ears Pardo so you can hear this stuff
Mickey Dee from motorhead playing is awesome 👍😎 to listen to
I like 👍 the deluxe edition.
Rock Believer is awesome!
Good review 👍
Friendly, relaxed pronunciation comment: Jabs is "Yabs".
More specifically, “Yobbs”.
Yeah, but a scorpion jabs though... Let it slide, let it slide
Surprisingly this was very good
Cooles T-shirt
This new album can stand up to love at first sting and Blackout
Lonesome Crow, Fly To The Rainbow, In Trance, Virgin Killer and Taken By Force are the best hard rock albums that Scorpions ever did. Lovedrive was a good album because it had some good Michael Schenker stuff on it. Then they released Animal Magnetism and it started going downhill from there. From once being a hard rock band bordering on heavy metal to becoming a ballad band the dynamics changed when Ulrich Roth left and Matthias Jabs took over. I haven't heard this new album yet that you're reviewing but I guess I could give it a try and listen and see if I like it.
Polish surename Mąciwoda😁. Great bass player
I purchased Rock Believer and found it to be a solid album, but it is not as consistent or catchy as the Scorpions most underrated album in their vast catalogue, Humanity Hour 1. My personal standard for very good to great albums is at least 7 good to great songs and Humanity has 9 terrific songs. IMO, Rock Believer contains 7 good to great songs, so I would rank it as the 2nd best Scorpions album of the 2000's. In terms of Pete's souring on Love At First Sting, to each his own, but that album is simply better than Blackout in every way, shape or form. Love At First Sting contains more good songs, it sold about 2 million more copies than Blackout, and the Scorpions had reached their zenith as players and performers. The greatest concert that I've ever attended was in 1984 at the Glenns Falls NY Civic Center. The Scorpions were touring to support the Love At First Sting album, and Bon Jovi was the supporting band. I was with 6 friends sitting in the 13th row and although we were semi-impressed with Bon Jovi's set, the Scorpions put on a show that was beyond amazing. The fact that the Scorpions are not in the Rock And Roll HOF is one of the most ridiculous omissions in the history of popular music.
I respect your opinion, especially regarding Humanity Hour 1, which should’ve been a huge hit. At the time it was released, Klaus said something like, “We didn’t want to make another record of boy chases girl songs… I mean, come on… at our age, that’s ridiculous! This is a more mature Scorpions with classic elements done in a more modern way.” I applauded that attitude and really love that record, regardless of the involvement of outside writers. To me, it sounded like Scorpions should have sounded in 2007. I also loved the inclusion of strings and piano on some tracks. Listen to We Were Born to Fly and try not to get totally pumped up! I love the power and positivity - it’s heavy and melodic, which is how we all want our Scorps, isn’t it? When that album didn’t sell as expected, they reverted to cheesiness and put out Sting in the Tail, a record that has four songs with the word “rock” in the title, which is pretty lame. I think the three ballads are the best songs on SITT. As for Love at First Sting being better than Blackout, I have to disagree vehemently! Maybe you’re associating the record with their incredible shows on that tour, I don’t know. For me, Blackout is the classic Scorpions record (even though I like all the Uli stuff the best). It was a commercial album, yet has a fire the band hasn’t displayed since, on record. LAFS has nothing anywhere near as exciting as Dynamite, Now! or the title track, nothing as catchy as No One Like You or as heavy as China White, IMO. Even the guys in the band refer to Blackout as peak Scorps. They know. Although the band got a little sick of their long-term partnership with Dieter Dierks, I think he was truly the sixth member and knew how to get the best out of them. I feel they lost their way without him. As for the hall of fame thing… I gotta say it again… I wish people would stop giving it credibility it doesn’t deserve. It’s not like some supreme decree from the gods of rock - it’s a lame-ass money grab perpetrated by Jann Wenner and his frat boy buddies who wouldn’t know rock ‘n’ roll if it kicked them in their vaginas and tattooed Chuck Berry duckwalking on their foreheads. Those losers think Lou Reed and Johnny Rotten hung the freakin’ moon, FFS. At this point, it’s a greater honor to be excluded from that elitist circle jerk. (Ask me how I really feel…)
I’m in!
I think it’s pretty solid. Not the best Scorps album ever, but pretty damn good for what they can do in modern times.
🦂 Well... Klaus promised an album with Scorpions DNA and he delivered: a heavy album that would be inspired by the vibe of the band's most classic albums.
They rescued the powerful poison that made them giants around the world in the 80s, but without sounding repetitive. A combination with some modern elements with a lot of personality.
I have to say that the addition of Mikkey Dee to the band since 2016 has been significantly important, from giving the band a little extra gas to what he can do on drums on this album. Fantastic!
Many credits to Pawel who made his mark very evident with his bass lines that I haven't heard this loud and clear since Unbreakable.
Rudolf and Matthias' guitars dueling each other with wonderful, powerful and energetic riffs took us back in time to the 80's. And the solos... just wow!
And Klaus... What a fantastic voice. It aged as well as a wine and knew how to adapt extremely well to the tonality of the songs, leaving a more mature and elegant touch in its beautiful melodies.
This album is totally consistent and has atmospheres that complement each other because they are so well put together. Heavy, cadenced, heavy again. An album with 16 songs - Deluxe version - and at least 12 of them are killer tracks. Incredible! From song 13 onwards, it makes room for some very interesting experimentation. In my opinion, it's the best since Crazy World but in the future this album could get even bigger and be the best since Love At First Sting.
As I'm a fan of the new generation, I couldn't live the peak of the band and have that amazing and epic experience that many fans of the time had when listening to those legendary records. Rock Believer was the closest I came to that feeling. Thank you Scorpions! 🖤
Best album since Blackout, but is that saying much? I am not so sure. I need to give it a few more listens.
Mr ufo Michael schenker should hail this high in big brothers of rock!
I gave it 4.5 out of 5
