My husband is getting a new job soon with private health insurance (I'm British so I am am used to an under funded NHS) so I may be able to get better care than before. Just wanted to leave a comment to thank you both because I've been watching the entire back catalogue of the vlogbrothers channel over the past few months and I feel like I've learned so much. Not only have I been vastly entertained by your antics over the years, I've also been inspired by the countless ways you (and the whole of nerdfighteria) have helped make the world a more awesome place. I've been a pretty pessimistic and cynical person pretty much as long as I can remember, but you guys have given me a greater sense of optimism about humanity and the world as a whole - some much needed hope in this strange times. John, your honest discussions of mental illness have been incredibly valuable, as I've struggled with mental health a lot, especially during the pandemic. Hank, your infectious enthusiasm about the world has made me a more curious person. Both of you have taught me to see light and joy in unexpected places, and to recognise that the world is full of other worlds, inside and outside the minds of others: to imagine the world, others and myself more complexly. I recognise that this is a very long comment already, and I really do not expect you to read it at all, but I also feel like I should add that I'm a big fan of all of both of your books (is that the correct phrasing?) and it's been really nice to understand the people and the thoughts behind those books. Have so much fun rewatching old videos :) if you want some completely unsolicited advice, I highly recommend starting at 2011 and going chronological, and then occasionally watching some videos from before. I joined back in 2011 as a like 10 year old, but I didn’t realllly start heavily watching again until quarantine 2020. During that terrible time, I literally watched every Vlogbrothers video from 2011 on. Literally every one. I just think that around 2011 was when they got goofy and that was when I really fell in love. I hope maybe you’ll find some realize and escape in those goofy ass old videos! Anyyyyways, I’m super happy you’ve found this amazing little corner of the internet! Most of the stuff I've been into have been the newer vids just because I feel like hank and john tend to be really philosophically mature in them (and also those videos tend to be recommended to me). I actually started watching them in part due to some pretty severe life anxiety, and found a lot of comfort in those philosophically driven vids. My favorite answer to "What do you want to be when you grow up?" is "Older." It's good because it's a cheeky answer to a cliche question, which I like, but it's also like "I don't quite want to 'grow up' yet, I want to keep living life and having fun. I'll grow up and be boring when I'm older." And 'hopefully, I'll never stop changing, growing, and having fun,' is left unsaid. I think this response is better the older the person who says it is. Someone in their 40s like Hank or John saying it would be great. A senior citizen saying it would be perfect. I don't remember whether that's one of those things I heard somewhere and forgot where or if I came up with it, but I like it either way.

Have so much fun rewatching old videos :) if you want some completely unsolicited advice, I highly recommend starting at 2011 and going chronological, and then occasionally watching some videos from before. I joined back in 2011 as a like 10 year old, but I didn’t realllly start heavily watching again until quarantine 2020. During that terrible time, I literally watched every Vlogbrothers video from 2011 on. Literally every one. I just think that around 2011 was when they got goofy and that was when I really fell in love. I hope maybe you’ll find some realize and escape in those goofy ass old videos!

@@CubingThroughLife This is so kind oh my gosh :') I will absolutely take you up on that and watch some of the older ones. Most of the stuff I've been into have been the newer vids just because I feel like hank and john tend to be really philosophically mature in them (and also those videos tend to be recommended to me). I actually started watching them in part due to some pretty severe life anxiety, and found a lot of comfort in those philosophically driven vids. Now that I'm more or less getting through that anxiety, I'll definitely check out the goofier and older vids :~)
And lemme tell you, from the few Dear Hank and John's i've listened to, I've had a lot of fun !!

Oh man, this video reminded me of how excited I am to see my sister in person again next week. We've both been watching vlogbrothers since about 2014- I would have been 12 and she was 16. Time flies aHHHHHHHH
My favorite answer to "What do you want to be when you grow up?" is "Older."
It's good because it's a cheeky answer to a cliche question, which I like, but it's also like "I don't quite want to 'grow up' yet, I want to keep living life and having fun. I'll grow up and be boring when I'm older." And 'hopefully, I'll never stop changing, growing, and having fun,' is left unsaid. I think this response is better the older the person who says it is. Someone in their 40s like Hank or John saying it would be great. A senior citizen saying it would be perfect.
I don't remember whether that's one of those things I heard somewhere and forgot where or if I came up with it, but I like it either way.
