    To everyone who is concerned about it not working on curly hair: Manes by Mell did a really great review of the Dyson Airstrait on multiple types of curly hair and it actually works super well, but it does require a different technique. Don't completely discount its efficacy based on the two-inch sample on Abbey's mom in this video if this is something you'd like to achieve on your own curly/wavy hair.

      I have wavy, puffy hair. It retains lots of water and takes me one hour to blow dry and straighten on wash day. If I rough dry, I have to flat iron or curl all of it. If it air dries, it is frizzy until it’s completely dry- several hours later. This tool, though expensive, is very intriguing to me.

      I agree! I have wavy hair (2A/2B), and my hair comes out straight and sleek with the Airstrait - as though I’ve used a flat iron. I’m on day 2 and still have zero frizz. I used medium/high heat when wet, then finished it using the Boost setting and cool shot. I don’t think her mom gave it a fair shot by using the lowest heat setting on her thick, wavy hair.

      I have wavy, frizzy hair and the Airstrait dries it straight, shiny, and frizz free. Mom in the video looked like her hair was too dry already, and maybe she didn’t have the right products in for blow drying straight.

    I was a little disappointed that your mom used the lowest heat setting and gave up so quickly. I have wavy (2A/2B), medium-density hair. The Airstrait gave me sleek, straight results with zero frizz - the same as when I use a flat iron. I varied between medium-high heat when wet, then finished with the Boost setting. I am not able to get the same sleek results with my Airwrap. It’s day 2, and even with no touchups I have zero frizz with the Airstrait. My hair did get HOT when using it though. So I agree with you that Dyson’s claim of no heat damage could not possibly be true.

    I agree with some people commenting here. I was a little disappointed that your mom gave up so easily. You could have dried it for her on very wet hair and used different settings for a complete review. I don’t believe you gave it a fair shake for curly hair and that’s what I was looking for in this video. It still might be good for frizzy or curly hair, though.

    Wavy/frizzy hair here. Works very well for me. Very straight and I still have some body. Less than a blow dry brush but with a blow dry brush I still get frizz. Got caught in rain and hair is still good. Day 4 hair and with some dry shampoo it's still straight with more body than day 1.

    Great honest video! I bought this tool for my 38th Birthday 🎉! First time I used it I was a little confused as to why I spent so much money on an air dryer but then I realized this tool it’s def less damaging, I have a lot of thick hair , lots of volume, this tool has helped control my hair. If you’re looking for a tool to give lots of different styles this is not your tool. This is simply a blow dryer that cuts your dry time in half with less damage. Overall I’m happy with my purchase.

    I have generally straight hair with a bit of a wave, but not enough to wear it wavy because the wave pattern isn’t consistent. I normally blow dry and then straighten my hair.
    I got the air straight and it’s a game changer for me. My hair is super straight, very soft, and has a lot of shine. I slept on it overnight, and it still looks great and frizz free the next day. I’m super impressed!

      @itsFKNfashion ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m glad to hear that! I heard someone say she noticed it was pulling her hair out and was still damaging it. Have you noticed this?
      I suspect she just isn’t brushing her hair😬😂 but it’s a big purchase for me as a low income student so I want to be sure before I buy

    • @RacerX_1111
      @RacerX_1111 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got 4 great days out of my hair. Which is good for me because I work outside all day. All I used was a leave in conditioner and some oil at the very ends…. Hair is shiny AF!
      This is a game changer for me as well. I will never use a blow dryer and straighten again.

    I have curly/wavy, very thick and puffy hair. I just got this dyson in the mail last night from sephora and tried it this morning. I have so much hair that I typically wash the night before though so my hair gets at least 50% dry, otherwise it just takes forever. I will say that for me, the result I got is worth the $500. I have never been able to get such a quick, nice result and have tried so many tools on the market. My only tiny gripe is that I didn't like how pin straight my ends are. I did go in with my t3 flat iron to just give the ends a little bend. I would give it 4.5 stars so far, though I will see how it maintains through day 3-4 before I decide once and for all.

    As someone with naturally frizzy egg noodle shaped hair (and currently recovering from some over processed bleaching damage) I’m always looking for a way to save time and minimize damage when doing my hair. I think every gal with frizzy curly hair can relate to how draining it is to show up with decent hair every single day!! I’m kind of desperate for a tool like this 😅 BUT It’s not even an option to spend that kind of money so I have my fingers crossed for an affordable alternative.
    *also totally understand the stripping of the shine your mom experienced. I find that I must add oil to my hair afterwards anytime I use low heat/heated air to tame frizz.
    Thank you so much for purchasing this to review!! ❤

    I have wavy frizzy hair, and this tool has saved me so much time! I don’t have to blow dry and then straighten my hair, which took me forever to do! My hair is soft and shiny after I’m done using it! For me, worth every penny!

  • @dreamon4692
    @dreamon4692 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I bought this just to try, with the idea that I was going to return it just like I did the Airwrap last year. I just used it on my curly, extremely frizzy, pouffy hair, that I usually blow dry with a round brush and then flat iron, and omg...it actually works for me! Other than my GHD flat iron, this may be the only other tool that has actually worked for me, ever! I was not expecting to keep it, but I think I will! I just hope it's not too damaging in the long run.

    I have a really busy schedule and absolutely DREAD the days I need to wash my hair because it's such a time suck to dry and style. Even though I have naturally straight hair, I have a LOT of it and it frizzes. $500 is a bit steep but I might pull the trigger esp looking out for sales. Initially thought about the shark styler but I rarely curl my hair so this might be more worth my money since it has a blow drying option too. I am disappointed that your mom didn't keep going, obvi her choice but honestly she barely gave it a chance and it's just hair. I don't know why she made such a stink about a 3 inch section.

    I would say your mom needed another pass on the dry boost setting - along with a rough dry at the roots. Even if you rough dry like more than half and it gets all frizzy it still will smooth it all the way out miraculously. I have frizzier and curlier hair than she has and it is a game changer for me! Truly can’t believe how nice my hair looks and feels and days later. Does NOT happen like that with the air wrap at all. And I have both versions. Never had this nice of straight hair before. And it’s less dry than usual.

    This is an absolutely amazing tool, and I love how the picture of this video shows the model using it backwards! lol 😂
    It’s totally worth it. I bought one for my daughters, and they love them, I turned around and bought one to use in the salon to save wear and tear on my body.
    Dyson hair tools are absolutely top-of-the-line and worth every penny including their vacuum cleaners!!!!
    I work with many different hot tools and hands-down will pick a Dyson over the other brands every single time.
    I just recently bought a gamma blow dryer to see what the hype was about and gave it away…. I turned around and bought another Dyson after my previous Dyson professional blow dryer died after five years of intensive professional use. I turned around and also bought the air straight to use at the shop.
    I also have the air wrap at the house for my own personal use, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!! As a professional, I would not use it in the salon, although I know some professionals do.
    NO REGRETS #teamdyson

    dyson prices are too crazy imo. i think their straightener and this is just a waste of money for most people but after seeing Manes by Mell use it i think it is perfect for those with curly hair going for a straight look. with that said i still think the price needs to come down a lot, the airwrap is just a bit more and you get multiple attachments.

    Just got mine yesterday and OMGGG I wish I’d had this all my life. I have straight but very frizzy hair that can become hard to blow dry aimoly because it needs a lot of heat in order to tame the frizz (and trust me, when I say I condition and take care of my hair) this gave me the BEST blow out EVER. Only thing I needed besides this was go in with my flat iron to give my ends a little shape because the only downside I found to this is that you get no volume.

But then they also have noise canceling head phones for twice the price😮 I thought this would be the perfect tool for using an anti-frizz glossing product where you have to pull your hair straight for the product to work. But for the price you could have it done at a salon for less I’m guessing. BTW, your mom is gorgeous. I don’t know how pretty your dad is but I can see where you and your sister get your looks from❣

    To be honest, yea it is expensive, especially for Canadians considering the price conversion BUT it totally pays off, you can do monthly payments and if you’re someone who loves a good salon blow out but can’t afford to keep going to salons, or just struggling with your hair on the regular, this will give you luscious smooth, flat iron results. And if you want some curls or volume, you can even go in with heatless curl options afterwards such as robe curls or Velcro rollers or flexible rods or those foam rollers that lets you close it once you roll your hair into it. for some beautiful bounce and desired volume. I will say though, I’ve been watching every Airstrait video review and the results are not as sleek on type 4 hair from what I’ve seen. Even Latina curly thick hair takes a little more work. That’s why it’s important to watch Dyson channel videos as they explain how to use it the best way. For thicker hair, I would suggest highest wet mode heat and high air flow. Two slow passes. If that’s not enough then another third slow pass should do the trick. If the hair isn’t straight enough you can then go into dry mode (once hair is dry) and select the boost mode as it gets the hottest and helps achieve the smoothest finish. Then set it with cold air always. Also I recommend for type 4 hair to brush your hair before you begin using the tool. But definitely slow passes does the trick. For me I have fine, wavy hair, but I have a lot of hair but it performs super well on my hair type. Also as mentioned from a dyson engineer, Dry mode - you use more heat and less air flow
    Wet mode - less heat more air flow but again if hair is thick then play around with the heat until you find the perfect temperature for your hair type

    Hi there Abbey Thank you for the video, first of all, it is crazy expensive and that would make my life a living hell zone, my hair is crazy on his own, do not need to make it look crazier, love the tools that I use for a fraction of the cost. My personal opinion. Have a great weekend!. PS: Thank your mom for me, for trying it out😃

    That's very helpful before the purchase to listen so many different opinions of girls/women with different hair types who have tried using this tool. But I've found your statement concerning the heat damage that causes high temperature being not to the point. Of course 285 degrees brings damage to the hair of any type. Accordingly to the Cambridge University professor Tim Moore, the hair damage causes temperature above 200°C. Dyson Airstrait's temperature range from 80°C to 140°C. Even the airflow control can be set from low to high flow, accordingly to the hair state. That's very gentle and not harmful at all. To sum up all said above, claim that it is not going to damage our hair is true. Or maybe I misunderstood you on some points?

      I figure it’s like a tool. My husband has expensive tools he uses 1x a year. I use hair tools 2x a week.
      But I also have to save weekly for it 😂

  • @korrinarobinson1805
    @korrinarobinson1805 ปีที่แล้ว

    Curly hair is tricky, you need moisture when straightening, leave in conditioner, a straightening balm, that is based on your hair texture, and enough heat to straighten, but not too hot, once the hair you are straightening is dry, move to the next piece, otherwise you can cause damage if you are doing passes over already dry hair( also causing more frizz), tell your mom not to give up!
