OMG I RELATE TO THIS SO HARD!!! I cannot count how many times I've literally point blank known EXACTLY what an issue is, and then immediately been gaslit into thinking I'm crazy, then so much time and money later, turns out I'm right! The life of women I freakin swear!!!

Madi you don't have to apologize for the meltdown, it's not your fault your landlord is a jerk and for whatever reason doesn't hear what you're saying. For now just try and survive and if a listing for an apartment you can afford comes up, take it. Until then stay safe and see you next video

I feel this so much. I bought a very expensive brand new condo almost two years ago. There are SO many problems. They haven’t even completed the punch list. They have had work people here over 50 times and haven’t even started most of the work! I can’t explain how many times I’ve cried over this. I feel you!

  • @laurens7431

It's not dramatic, it's very valid. I would 100% feel the same way especially frustrating that they don't listen to you. Remind yourself it's not your problem. You move (albeit a huge inconvenience and expense) but they still have the problem. If they want to pay for hours of labor to keep fixing it incorrectly, that's their problem.

Such an easy fix - can’t believe the repairs are not correct!
But I hope you can get a better perspective and not stress!
Some day you’ll see how small the problem is! Till then take some deep breathes and find your balances! And Joy!

You have every right to feel frustrated I know how annoying it can be when you were telling some thing to someone and they are not listening. I’ve had the same experience with my old apartment, I knew the person above me was abusing their dog and I literally sent the property manager multiple videos, called the police and nobody wanted to believe me and nothing came of it and so I had to literally move because I couldn’t be under somebody that was abusing their dog and nobody wanted to do anything because they wouldn’t let me out of my lease so it’s very understandable what you’re going through and just know that you have every right to feel that way

No you have absolutely nothing to apologize for honey!!! That’s very frustrating and annoying to have to deal with! Water coming into your place that can ruin your own furniture and belongings! They need to understand and pay for you having to break your lease! Best thing you can do is move if there isn’t anything they are gonna do about the water coming in! Prayers for you honey you got this ❤️

  • @dreindenver798

You need to take them to small claims court. You usually don't need an attorney. At a minimum you could get them to get you out of your lease without cost to you. Just make sure you keep all records, and contact made with the leasing office. If there is water leaking into your unit, there could be mold, which is a health risk. If they're not fixing the problem of leaking water, and it still leaks, eventually it will get mold. I would try for moving costs too. If they're refusing to fix the problem, chances are, they won't be a great landlord.

  • @krista8433

Keep all the records of your maintenance requests. At my last apartment around 4 months after I moved in water started leaking from the ceiling from the bathroom in the apartment above me and I contacted them that day and they said they would have to get a third party contractor to fix it. I submitted another 4 requests that kept getting closed without the issue actually getting fixed. The ceiling was still leaking when I moved out 7 months later and there was black mold all around it. It turned from a 4 inch crack with water leaking to a 12 inch circle of water stain and black mold. When I went to move out I told them and showed them all the requests for maintenance and got my entire security deposit back. You can check in the lease to see what it says about how they have to handle/fix problems to make sure you dont have to pay for anything or contest it if they try to charge you. It sucks and I am so sorry you are going through that, apartments are terrible!!

hey girly, i know this is super frustrating because i’ve been through this so many times with my own landlords and complex. my dad finally came down to help me and it was the weather stripping along the doors that was making the gap and letting water and bugs through. maybe you could ask for the weather stripping to be replaced asap. i’m sorry!!

Do you have a tenant board/tribunal you can talk to? They deal with the legalities of these things. I would think that if the condition is unlivable (water = damage) you are able to terminate your lease without paying a fee.

  • @roseberry3588

100% agree with you regarding older buildings. They are simply far more structurally sound than the ones built in more modern times.
As far as the door gap goes, maybe attach something that is squishy enough to make a seal but also fastenable to the face of the flange (the part where you shouldn't be able to see light coming through) facing your door? I'm thinking maybe something as simple as a velcro stuck to the face and then attached to something rubber, maybe even a large pencil eraser? Or maybe just wood putty thick enough to block the gap? I've lived in a lot of old apartments and houses and when things settle over the decades, angles sometimes fail to retain their squareness and simple remedies come in handy, at least long enough to move out.

  • @Ange_V
    @Ange_V 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

Madi, I showed my husband your door situation. While he was appalled by the amount of caulk they used, he said to close the gap you need weather stripping, which you can find at Lowes or Home Depot. I'm going to do my best to descibe this next part. If you go to the 9:09 mark on your video and look at the door jam, apply the weather stripping (it has an adhesive back) to the part of the door jam that is sticking out. The part that when you close the door, it stops the door from just swinging through to the outside. That's the part/area where you want to apply the weather stripping. Does that make sense? I hope so. Now I don't know if the apartment management would have a problem with you doing this. They shouldn't but if they do, you could ask them to do it. Weather stripping will seal that gap and likely solve the water issue.

    • @Ange_V

Oh, almost forgot. If there is already weather stripping there, it may not be enough and is obviously not doing the job. Apply your weather stripping next to the existing piece. It will create more of a barrier and seal the gap.

Sometimes if you find someone else to take over your lease you can break it without a penalty. My dad found someone to take over his lease without a penalty. I wish you the best. Don't stress over it. Talk to the property management to see what they would say. Too bad we didn't live in the same city and friends. Frustrations build to burden status as no one listens ... tears are cathartic ... cries to the Spirit ... release of the buildup and feel better ... the mind clears ... GOD is always there. Door sweep / bottom weather stripping ??? where light comes through. From video it looks like a rectangular water pooling area is created by door, bricks, and each side of door frame.... don't see where water can channel out ... caulk job ??? Pouring water is fine it just simulates accumulated rainfall if water is not channeled out of pooling area. I would put towels inside & go outside, close door, & pour water in pooling area on the door hinge side to see if water goes anywhere other than sweep / stripping opening. If those brick groves are supposed to be the flow channels look how high they sit ... that is the level the water must reach before it starts to drain away from door. The water all goes through failed door seal. There should not be a pooling area or a failed seal. That's what it looks like from video to me. I get the move thing but seems tough to reward them with 3k for being incompetent and there are quick fixes - weather stripping, caulk to the area or expandable foam to fill pooling area if it exists, or any combination, to stop the leak. Then again maybe it is fixed after 8 in house and 1 outsource but it looks doubtful. PEAK clown world stuff. You know that you are doing all the right things.

Talk to a real estate BROKER about renters rights and who to report them to. You can get out of your lease without penalty.

It's okay to be frustrated BUT if you want to get something properly fixed, talk to the person whom is fixing it.

Yeah, I still think you are being overdramatic. It's clear you don't like it there, so just break your lease. It's not like you are broke :)

Do you still own any of Alabama clothing to wear with your outfits and you should have some of your pictures in picture frames around your apartment and if you decide to move out of your apartment also.

Okay I’m perplexed over your balcony because when you opened the door you could tell that you have no balcony because of the fence but like how did you even stand there during the water test if there doesn’t seem to have any room… lol? Weird thing to be questioning but I am so confused!
