    And your example is also used in Stanislaw Lem's one of Ijony Tichy's short stories, "the journey 23th", published in 1954 :) In this story a groom was transported twice and both appeared next to bride and both claimed they are real. The judge ordered to destroy them both and create a new one :)

    I am saying about plagiate, because Hylas na d Filoneus discuss about fictious situation, in which a tyrant wants to kill hylas, and filoneus decides to create a amchine who would recreate Hylas after his death - then saying that if this recreation is Hylas, then he will recreate him before Hylas actually dies..

    Seems to me that Perry's dialog is a plagiate of Stanislaw Lem's Dialogue (pubslihed in 1957 in Poland). Lem's first dialogue is between Hylas and Filoneus and they discuss whether it is possible to achieve immortality (without discussing soul, calling it rather consciousness).
