Italo sung in Vietnamese, and italo sung in English by Vietnamese singers, both have a different flavor

I love New Wave music even though all your artists are clearly not from the '80s. I used to think Lynda Trang Dai was, although her "first" recording was back in 1992 with one new wave song called crazy love. I recently discovered an original recording artist who seems to fit the ticket. Shere Thu Thuy 1987 -1989. BTW! I love your music posted.

You are right. During those time when in mid 80s to late 80s all the new asian gangs listen to rock n roll, free style and new waves.

While I'm no authority on the issue, I can confirm Lynda Trang Dai had covered/recorded Modern Talking songs in the mid-80s, while I was in high school. I thought her songs were the bomb, since they were in both English and Vietnamese. My Cambodian friend who spoke her own language as well as Vietnamese would play these songs on our way from San Diego to Westminster and back, as well as other mixed tapes. Surreal that a few years later, at my first post in Germany (while in the Army), the jukebox at the local German bar would have Modern Talking songs in it and when they came on, I would keep waiting for the Vietnamese part to come on, and it never would... :)

Hello, Juan. I can answer your Lynda's interest. I also love Lynda, although I think you might have gotten your information a little mixed up. In the mid 80's Lynda was a huge Madonna freak! Everybody who went to Huntington high school in California knew that. In fact, we would call her the Vietnamese Madonna. And New wave music wasn't even her thing back then. In the mid-80s she was only 16 or 17 and never had any music published or radio airplay back then. So, when you say you heard her singing, "Modern talking" That would have to have been in the early 90s. That's when she started her new wave of interest. However, by then there were already several other Vietnamese singers before Lynda who actually sang new wave in the mid-'80s, not Lynda. You can ask anybody who went to school with her. They would probably laugh to hear you say this. because she didn't even have a record out yet. And her strict parents wouldn't even let her go out to sing. Anyway! Best regards!

Truth be told none of this is actually New Wave. It just got lumped into New Wave as it was an umbrella term for any synthesizer music by this point. Originally New Wave was a softer counterpart of Punk Rock. Early Blondie is New Wave.. not this and besides New Wave is supposed to be Rock music... not pop.
