One of the best and most Intense films I've ever seen. The gentleman playing the lead role deserved an Oscar for best actor. Nobody that year even came close to him. At times I felt I was watching a documentary rather than a piece of fiction. Respect and love to the people of Iran and wishing them a safe and prosperous future. Greetings from India.
Where is the Friend's Home?, The Wind Will Carry Us, Taste of Cherry, Through the Olive Trees from Abbas Kiarostami Bashu, the Little Stranger from Bahram Beizai Taxi Tehran, This Is Not a Film, The White Balloon, Crimson Gold from Jafar Panahi The Song of Sparrows from Majid Majidi (on top the two you mentioned)
Easily the best movie ever created. It shows just how morally complex people are and how misunderstandings are root causes of all problems. In real life, problems do not stem from one singular event nor from one individual. There's fair share of blame that can go around and ultimately everyone has in some manner contributed to that particular problem.
it' my first time to watch an iranian movie, really this movie is underrated the filming and the pictures were better than most of hollywood movies and the outstanding acting was great too, i't a masterpiece i can guarantee that no one will get bored watching it
I watched the whole movie on Apple TV the other day, and must say that I was blown away by the professionalism of the actors, from the smallest child all the way to the old man inflicted with Alzheimer’s. The intensity with which they portrayed the story is mind-boggling and makes this motion picture truly a masterpiece of the modern-day cinema.
I cannot believe I waited all this time to watch this amazing movie. it is truly a masterpiece and a must watch! it's a simple story with such complexities and really reflects on the reality of people, no one is purely good or evil. we all have our vices and qualities of purity and redemption.
they don't translate this probably. they cut down what they actually say. Like at the start she says "no he's not a drug addict, there's nothing wrong with him, he's good and healthy" but they translated to "he's decent good person"
haha, i doubt you will remember this comment after a year but actually in the film they didn't cut it, the part she said "he's a decent goood person" is just the ending of her speech.
Beyond its powerful didactism force about the Iranian society ( which I wasn't fully aware before watching it), this film is a masterpiece as it manages to tell a lot about what makes human so complex: pride, power, guilt, legacy, superstition. Another great film that makes you think about life in general.
Fantastic film. Well written and great story line. I saw th whole of humanity in this film. We are all the same ...we just live differently. With love alhamdhulillah UK Muslim revert x
This has been my most favorite film of the 2010s by far. I have watched it multiple times. Really fascinated with everything in the film as well as in Iran. The Persian language sounds especially melodic to me.
Aside from all the plaudits everybody in the comments have already given, I'm surprised not much is said about the daughter's (Sarina Farhadi) role. Her performance is simply amazing and you really empathize with her because of how horrible this is for her as much as for her parents.
The name of the first song is "An Early Memory" by Michael Montes. The second song is "Journey" by the same guy. Had to ask the composer over Twitter to work it out!
ive seen many movies, and there are some films i will rank above this one just because of sentimental attachment or some sort of bias- but i have never seen a film where my only thought at the end was "perfect". objectively, this is the best movie ive ever seen.
A must watch! It is a beautiful movie! By the way, does anyone know the name of the piano piece played in the trailer? It is an absolutely beautiful piece!
Spoiler: Oh wow, I just watched this movie it put Hollywood movies in shame, my first Iranian movie, I was really not expecting that, a masterpiece it was very heavy, unlike other movies it left me with anger that I just can't handle it, not just sad but anger, a devastating emotional ending, I felt so sorry for the little girl, both parents couldn't put their ego aside and look at the important thing which was their daughter.
India and Iran should really start to interact at an individual level. We are so close to each other but yet far away. It would take a few hour journey via road-rail, but you know the bone !
I seriously felt this when I watched this movie for the first time. Majid Majidi has even done an Indian movie with Indian actors so I'm sure some are trying to bring our cultures together which is great to see.
@@arvindhmani06 we Iranian have nothing in common with Indian culture 😂 our cultures are more in common with the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan not India. Stop begging to be related to us
@@basicenthusiast9783no bro, if you know about history, there are alot of things that are connected through indo-persian references. And we as Indians are not begging, it's just that we appreciate great art and culture.

Despite his dedication to his father and daughter. I found this man very difficult to live with. It’s the type of people around whom you can never feel at ease. He acts gentle at times but you never know when he is going to strike. I hated him. The actor is very good But I think the actor who played Hojjat role is impressive. He deserved an Oscar nomination at least

The whole point is that whomever she chooses, it doesn’t change this fact: she’s gonna lose one of her parents. A loss-loss decision, so to speak. If you look at it this way, it’s not even an open ending; it’s as closed as needed.
Watched Manchester by the Sea (2016) yesterday and couldn't help but notice that it share a lot of the same narrative elements and general themes with this film (2011), as well as another Farhadi film, Le Passe (2013)... coincidence, or did Kenneth Lonergan and Casey Affleck think they could rip off foreign director without American audiences ever noticing?
I've seen works of both Lonergan and Farhadi. Although I don't completely agree with you. They both are great drama directors and writers and it's very normal to notice some similarities between movies with family-centered dramas! Every screen writer or director can also be inspired by works from other cultures and that's not necessary a bad thing!
I recommend to watch this film for those always come out with “...this is why im so afraid of marriage”. I would rate this film for 8.3/10. The director really did a great job portraying a lessons in family conflict, but i just hate the ending. They shouldve be more detailed!
I thought by contrast it was the perfect ending. I thought it implied that there are no winners, even if one won the legal battle over the other. Their lives are forever altered and there's no going back from that.
The acting is really perfect that it felt so real. The story is about a misunderstanding and one issue and thats it. Nothing else happens, I was bored the whole movie, it is very slow, and the plot didnt deserve this long movie. The actress is so pretty
