I think you're missing the point of being an mvp. It's the most valuable player to a team's success towards making the playoffs. Both teams(Angels/Blue Jays) were heavy favorites to get to post season. But trout's team couldn't hang so therefore donaldson (who btw had very similar numbers to trout in term of stats) took home the trophy. But if you want to argue more, of the 41 homeruns donaldon hits in 2015, 27 of those were to either give the Blue Jays a tie or the lead

Trouts offensive stats that season are just as good as Miguel Cabrera. Where Trout won the MVP was the field that season. A +2 dWAR is gold glove level territory in CF. Meanwhile Cabrera actually had a pretty decent season in the field by his standards with a -.2 dWAR. Usually he is well into the -1 to -1.5 area. I just don't know how baseball writers can ignore 10.8 WAR vs 7.2.
If trout had played all of the games that season yes he would have won it, but miggy had a better avg, more hr, more rbi also defense is wildly underrated in the baseball community.
