i personally think Hearthstone being like alternate non cannon lore of Warcraft is perfect. it opens up for much more ideas and a lot of fun things they can do.
They do kinda the same in Heroes of the Storm with some alternative skins, like Malfurion being the betrayer and Illidan the archduid, Tyrande being a blood elf, Thrall the earth warder and more, this also applies to the heroes of their other franchise (Illidan as a spectre from Starcraft for example)
The way I see Hearthstone is in-universe fanfiction. It's a game played by people in inns in the Warcraft universe, and those people add their own spins onto the story. So the events are canon per se, but it does exist in the Warcraft universe as a game.
Fire is also alongside light near the top of the Warcraft Cosmology near the Naaru and the "Light". It's too bad that Raggy had to die, because a purified Ragnaros would have been a much cooler addition than the current "Firelord" who seems like a very greedy arrogant elemental.
GigaWatts ehhh, fire is also very similar to fel though. If anything it should be a neutral element which is easily swayed by good or evil, and it would be fitting since fire is usually hard to control

I know this is an old comment thread but it raises a good point. The corrupted Raggy we all know and love represents the destructive power of fire, consuming and destroying everything it touches. Whereas Ragnaros the Lightlord could represent the positives of flame. While still a force of destruction when used without restraint, fire also warms cold nights, burns away corruption and keeps the darkness at bay. Heck sometimes the destructive side of fire is not just good but *necessary,* burning away old growth and allowing new life to flourish from the ashes So yeah, it does kinda suck they just killed raggy off for good, considering how much they could have done with a Ragnaros purged of the Old Gods influence.
If I remember correctly, the reason Team 5 gave about Rag Lightlord was that he had already been under the orders of the Old Gods once, and he didn't like it one little bit (easy to see why, since he was imprisoned for quite a long time because of it), so he allied with the forces of Light to fight the Old Gods, not because he was a good guy now (or because it was a "what if", like Mr Brode said in a tweet) but because he didn't want to be in a prison again, and he thought the Old Gods would destroy humanity without his help.

What I mean is that the reason why they did it was not "whatever, we do what we want and nobody can stop us" but an actual reason that they thought about (now, knowing if they thought about it before making the card, or after the whole world turned against them, that is another topic, but still, they thought of a reason) Not much of a difference for people like me, who could not care less about the image in the card, I just care about the text, but it seemed to calm the angry mob, so... GG, Blizzard, I guess.
Maybe it’s in a world where Ragnaros didn’t die and we were able too convince him that once the old gods had complete control he would not be allowed to fight anymore and so when the old gods broke out he accepted the power of the light so he could fight them back
I love that they say that Hearthstone is a what-if take on the lore where now we have a holy nathrezim so there could probably also be an elemental that have the power of the light.
Rytis Venckevicius Light Hogger has no power over the Light Old God of Na'lhun (made up name but think if there existed a light old god who clang to corrupted titans as a parasit and turned them to the light).
I like to imagine that Ragnaros the Lightlord embodies an aspect of fire that is holy, righteous, and driven by conviction, justice and determination, rather than destruction and rage. I can imagine Blackrock Mountain being a battleground where an order of silver hand paladins led by "high priest" Thaurissan went for a final attack against the scourge, using the light. Thaurissan's conviction in his cause led him to unintentionally summon Ragnaros the Lightlord. Rag would have used his holy fire to hallow the mountain and the surrounding area, turning Searing Gorge into Lightsworn Valley, Burning Steppes into Blessed Steppes, and Blackrock Mountain into Lightlord's Peak.
I like to imagine that Ragnaros the Lightlord embodies a holy, righteous, and vindicated aspect of fire rather than destruction and rage. I can imagine BRM being hallowed grounds where armies of dwarven paladins led by a high priest Thaurissan went to seek the aid of The Lightlord in battle, rather than accidentally summoning him.
Just an idea and i might be wrong here but night elves "light" come from the moon. a blood elf's "light" comes from the sunwell. tauren and the sun, drenai and the naru. so why no fire? fire is a source of light much like all the prior mentioned faiths.

On a side note, though, Mr. Nobbel, as I was reading my own copy of the Warcraft Chronicles Vol. 1, I noticed that where N'zoth was said to be imprisoned was not far south of where Suramar was on Kalimdor (that is, Mega-Not-Yet-Sundered Kalimdor). Also, on said map, a little bit north-west of where Suramar is marked you can see what looks like an illustration of a particular cloud-crested mountain. Perhaps that's showing Highmountain? It'd be an interesting idea to talk about the Warcraft maps and speculate what certain landmarks and areas might fortell.

I don't know why people hated the thought of Ragnaros, Lightlord none of the Elemental Lords was originally aligned with the Old Gods, and the only reason they fought each other was because Azeroth had very little Spirit due to it being a Titan. I liked the idea of Ragnaros being a champion of the Light and I think it would of been possible has Azeroth had more spirit at the time to keep the elemental's in balance.
Xenovia he only gets feet when u encounter him in the heroic version of fireland raid, otherwise he just stays in his lava pool. Maybe it is a higher difficulty when he walks out of his lava to chase players.
I believe, lore wise at least, that the heroic version is cannon, and that he got his feet, and emerged because he was FORCED to by Cenarius and the druids. This was necessary to ensure Old Raggy didn't escape and come back again in a later expansion.

If you want to make a lore reason, then we could say that it's because he's out in Azeroth instead of the Firelands, a domain completely filled with his element. But really, I'd guess that they probably hadn't got his new model finalised by the time Cataclysm launched, and so just used his old model.

The Elementals were only imprisoned in the elemental plane, their binds to the world were not broken and thus none of the elemental lords should be dead, as they are all connected to the world and the elemental plane is only a prison.
Pedro Hernandez I guess lore explanation would be something along the lines of the titans could not enter the elemental planes without a portal of some kind, so they just had to banish the firelord. But when ragnaros opened a portal to let his forces invade Azeroth, we were able to use that portal to enter the firelands. I guess something similar with the emerald nightmare, where malfurion was unable to go into the rift of Aln (I think?) so we couldn't kill xavius until he attacked first

DDespicable Thing is Rehgar and Gazlowe still have quite some lore on them. Brightwing's another story, but I totally see this happening in the future. Hey he could even merge HoTS and Hearthstone videos and take both requests.

When i see a card in Hs i always think about it. Hearthstone place in tavern right? So then why not is a drunk man story? Just think about it! Sylvanas after she meet C'thun talk to him and the old god decided to choose another side in the Grommash Vs. Uther combat.
how cool it would have been if blizzard had made a new game of wow: alternate universe with all the bells & whistles, something similar to black desert style graphics just better. where everything is distorted compared to wow we have today just one thought :)

Considering it is now canon that demons can be redeemed and turned to the light, I would say Ragnaros the Light Lord is plausible.

DDespicable Thing is Rehgar and Gazlowe still have quite some lore on them. Brightwing's another story, but I totally see this happening in the future. Hey he could even merge HoTS and Hearthstone videos and take both requests.
hey no real objections from me pal, ive never even played wow but if i ever got the chance i think my first horde character is gonna be a troll cus theyre such a cool race, tho hopefully they'll get a makeover soon (Make them more muscular and upright like ur doing zuljin now blizzard! What you did here was more : "The Story of Ragnaros the Firelord" than "The Story of Ragnaros Lightlord"
becasue Lightlord ain't cannon so he had to do something :P
how cool it would have been if blizzard had made a new game of wow: alternate universe with all the bells & whistles, something similar to black desert style graphics just better. where everything is distorted compared to wow we have today just one thought :)
