The Speedy Diver hello speedy I hope your having a good day I hope it works
I hope your Xbox works

Tearing down before testing and not immediately not taking the disc out when powering on made this the most stressful video I’ve watch in a while.

The 3 rings are saying that a "General Hardware Failure" happened
Maybe the GPU failed cause of the video doing that weird pattern

Nicknamed the red ring of death
Elliott Entertainment Channel no shit
The three blinking red lights are a general hardware failure.. More than likely the video board due to the funky display that it produced
or the ring of death and the arm ooOOooOOffff
Three means more then one components are not working but display is most likely one
3 flashing Lights=RROD
Kalebjcool 2 Probably wouldn’t have turned on if multiple things had broken.
@@zephstreams well there been times were a ps can red screen while it was just running fine earlier, it most likely started but something crashed making more things crash, so it displayed a 3 red ring
So I used to fix these... so some info.
Power bricks. There were 3 for the fat console. 203w (the big one with the metal connector), 150w (Some of these still had a metal connector, some didn't), 125-ish w (plastic connector). The 203w works on all fat consoles. The 150w only works on Falcon and Jasper consoles (I think you have a zephyr, but not 100% sure) and the 125-ish only works on Jaspers.
3 blinking lights = Red Ring of Death. Due to the fact the console booted and THEN crashed, there's a high chance you have a GPU fault. Usually this is just a bad solder joint under the GPU and can be easily fixed with a solder reflow. However, a reball is a much better fix.
So it IS fixable if you want to do some digging. :) Best thing to do would be to get the full error code, which I don't remember how to do off the top of my head. I think you have to hold the sync button and press eject.
You can also see that the original owner tried to fix it with the "improved xclamp" fix, but most of the time it only fixes it for a short while because you crush the gpu on the board and that means you end up breaking it even more
Yep, and you can end up cracking the die and stuff... not a good time
The minute the screen flickered I knew RRoD was coming. It gave me flashbacks to when my 360 red ringed on the Gears of War 2 release day. Played the game for two hours and screen did that same thing. Rebooted to RRoD.
good old days, I remember having mine rroded on gears 2 midway through campaign, sent it to microsoft, waited 1M got it back, 2 weeks after it got rrod again was 12 at the time i freaked out like a little boy would , decided to just give up on it and asked my dad if he could get me the halo 3 edition and he did, it never died on me and i still have it, occasionally game on it as well

Considering it powered on the first time and the started displaying artefacts I'd say it's the graphics chip. You need to reflow the solder under it or replace the chip it self.
Kristjan Hlaj a better solution would be to replaced the chip. However a reflow could have it running for a few weeks to a few months. Mine lasted about 6 months with a heat gun reflow on the gpu
Kristjan Hlaj no the video chip

@ 3:51 - You absolutely hate opening the back because you don't know the trick. All you need to do is turn it upside down, grab the front side that is unsnapped and quickly open it up like a book. One loud pop and half a second later the damn thing is off. Also, that was the original Microsoft sticker, the larger paper ones you talked about were Microsoft refurbished stickers. They were more common because these had an 80% failure rate. Three blinking red IS the RROD, 4 red lights is a video cable issue. Yes, there is a code, you hold down Sync + Eject and it blinks 4 digits. The code doesn't matter because we can clearly see that the GPU is toasted. A reflow of the GPU BGA might give it a little bit more life. Reflow GPU to 220C with PROPER equipment and 12V Fan speed modification for best results.
The 3 rings says that it is a "General Hardware Failure" commonly known as the red rings of death :)
Means it's f###ed
Most Likely The Graphics Chip, The Things Showing On The Screen Indicate Its Been Damaged Or Soder is missing and contact is bad
When I got those red rings it was my power supply
Likely very high hour's on it.
My 360 is fu@@@d
Needs a reflow, gpu is the chip on the left, under the disk drive, take a heat gun to it at 400 defrees F ,for 15 minutes, about 10 on the top and 5 on the bottom of the board, then test it again. If it fails it needs a new gpu from a professional.
There are many videos that can fix 3 red rings problem, you should try to fix it and see if it's still working or not. It should be general hardware or motherboard problems
Also do not try to turn on Xbox 360 when that happens because it will make a very loud noises
There is no real permanent fix for the RROD, it basically looks like the GPU is fried or has broken solder joints.

@@MyRegardsToTheDodo Depending on the severity of the problem it may be possible to resolder the joints.
@@Crept14 The joints are under the CPU, GPU and RAM chips. Even if you do a reballing (and not a reflow) it's a 50:50 chance at best if the fix works. And you don't know how long the fix holds, the entire system can break down in a few months again. Oh, and of course if you do a reballing you're essentially spending 2 or 3 hours (maybe more) on something that is worth less than 20$. I would keep it for spares (the drive for example can be quite useful), but I personally wouldn't attempt fixing it.
You can get the error code by holding the Sync button while pressing the Eject button 4 times. Each time you press that will give you a number of red segments on the front. That’s how you get the 4-digit error code that will pinpoint this console’s issue and can be repaired accordingly. A checkerboard screen like this one had before dying usually means the HANA chip or GPU has a cold solder joint. They can be reflowed and be fixed for a number of weeks or months, or they will need to be reballed to be permanently fixed.
You should try taking it appart again and put some pressure on the GPU to see if gets proper connection, and then power it on while holding the pressure, just enough to see if you can get to the menu.
Surely it would make more sense to test the console to see if there in any life in them before taking them apart. Would be more satisfying if it didn’t work and you fixed because doing it your way you never know if it was working or not
Exactly! Speedy is not too smart...should have tested it first.
Its the red ring of death and only have three blinking red light and has broken solder joins under the gpu
Its over heating thats what its doing
I've also seen one do the same if the hdmi port needs to be replaced
@@jakeosceola8406 It's not overheating lol
Those solder joints could be replaced in theory.
The solder joints are fine. The actual GPU is bad.

also if u want a quick fix for this 360 wrap it in towels and turn it on for like 15 minutes then off to let it cool down, this will allow the solder on the gpu to reball somewhat and voila the console will work again until this cheap solder gives out again but take heed because after doing this a few times it will cook the processor to the point of no return...i have had multiple 360 consoles like these old style and actually still have 3 in my closet and waiting until i find a few power bricks for them and also controllers.
The console overheated which are the red rings or the components are messed up
Nope, RROD means "general hardware failure", or "something is wrong, but I don't know what exactly". This looks like the GPU is fried.

Three flashing red lights mean that the Xbox 360 console or its power supply has a hardware problem. To find out whether the problem is with your console or with the Xbox 360 power supply, try these solutions. Unplug and reconnect your power supply.
I love your videos speedy your the best
☺
This consol is 2 days older then me!! WOW!
When I had a original xbox 360 I had the same error it was generally because it had a power error. So it was most likely the power brick because its light light also turned red so you could try that
In that case, its just faulty solder balls under GPU
13:45 this could mean either of 2 things:
1. might just need to replace the cooling fan
2.you may need to replace the GPA, it costs quite a bit of money, and some serious welding skills to do. so heads up!
power supply should be green and it means theres a hardware problem the 3 flashing lights
No orange is the color for the power supply

3 rings mean "general hardware failure" 4 rings means the a/v cable is unplugged. if you press the controller sync button and the disk drive eject button 4 times in a row at the same time you get a code 4 rings mean 0. 1 means 1 and so on. you can search the code on the internet so you can figure out what is wrong.
3 rings is the “general hardware failure” or also known as the Xbox 360 “red ring of death”. Your really in trouble if you can’t solder a new video chip
4 is just for Indicating an AV cable is unplugged or something similar. 3 is a general hardware failure more than likely the GPU in this case with the graphical glitches. A quick temporary if would be a heat gun to re heat the solder joins under the gpu chip which could get it working. Mine worked for 6 months after a reflow which was more than enough considering it only cost me like £10
3 is either not enough power from the power supply or gpu is dead
"Someone may have been inside of this before me which is always a good thing to note" also a good tip for bringing a woman home.
that silver tag is legit, its an older version of the console, the newer ones had the paper looking one in the center
Hi speedy I’ve been watching your vids when you had 100k love your vids
One red light means a small hardware failure so like a heat sync or like a disk trey 2 lights means over heating 3 lights means general hardware failure (lead free solder joint somewhere on the board has gone dry( unfixable without a machine)) and 4 means the AV cable fell out
9:06 was really expecting a instant transition to it all put together =/
13:49 thats a red ring of death warning
Easy fix, at least temporary fix. Heat the board up. Likely the GPU that has issues. Could be the HANA chip too.
Hey @speedy try getting the secondary code from the console. Hold sync button. Press the eject button 4 times. You will het 4 codes. 1 light flashing means 1. 2 means 2 and 3 means 3 and 4 means 0. Example 4 flashing 3 times and 1 light flashing means error code 0001
Three is the red ring of death An actual red ring just means AV cables out
A full red ring is what we like.
I got a tip when my Xbox got ring of death, take off the cooler from the chip. In Sweden we had copper coins before, put that between and screw it back on. It actually Worked. The problem is that the cooler dont cool down the consol thats why it overheats and the ring appears
I love your videos ♥️
Most of the time the solder balls underneath the GPU have lost contacts to the motherboard. Or the HANA chip needs to be reflowed. A tempory solution is applying the towel trick, but it won't take long until the problem comes back.

i fixed mine by replacing the xclamps with a solid piece of metal and replacing the thermal paste. use something good. that thing gets hot. forgot to put. used a heat gun to reflow. you gotta replace the xclamps. it lets the board flex too much when it gets hot.
Add new thermal paste !
wont work the xbox should still boot without thermal paste. its most likely the solder under the chips that have gone
You mean acid corrupted the solder points
Idk if you were ever told or not about those power bricks but the metal one has the highest power output of all the bricks. The other ones were made in such a way that they can't fit into older fat motherboards, tho the metal plug can power all the fat models. Theres 3 different chip revisions to the fat models and therefore 3 wattage difference power supplies
1 ring = Hardware Failure
2 rings = Overheating
3 rings = General Hardware Failure
4 Rings = No AV Cable Connected
4 rings could also mean there is something REALLY WRONG with the console

@@larrydallas3212 can you go see your mama? She keeps telling me she misses you.
The power supplies for XBox 360 are not all the same. Microsoft has made a few revisions of the motherboard. Some require less power which means, they can make a smaller transformer or whatever for the power supply, which reduces manufacturing costs.
For example, you can plug a 200 W for a XBox that requires 100 W or 150 W but you can't plus a 100 W power supply to a XBox that requires 150 W (the plug won't go in).
PS: I made those numbers up for demonstration purposes.
Ooooffff, general hardware failure!
It is painful to see this :(
That's a Zephyr you have there, 2nd revision of the 360 after the Xenon...first one with HDMI and the 2nd gen gpu heatsink with the heatpipe extension. Some of the solder balls under the gpu have cracked, that's what those artifacts on the screen were. The only proper fix is to have the gpu removed and reballed with lead solder.
we are one of the early people!
replace the thermal compound between the cpu, gpu, and heat syncs. Gpu more importantly since the issues seem to be video. Then boot it up and it should be golden. I recently replaced the thermal compound on someone's slim 360 because it had been starting to lag playing black ops zombies. Like bad lag. the issue was fixed immediately so that was good

its overheating put new thermal paste on it
It's not overheating. I don't know why people still spread that (false) rumor. It's a general hardware failure, I'd say GPU-related. Maybe cracked solder joints or even a fried GPU.
I havent watched the speedy diver since 2018 he is the same as before good to know :3

It needs the GPU and Southbridge chip to be reballed/resoldered bro that's why it had problems in the display and also put new thermal paste on the GPU and CPU and it should run like new again 😉
I just watched a video about it. The 3 rings means the console is not getting enough power, so basically you just need to get a new power brick because the light on the power brick was orange, which means its broken and not giving the console enough power. The light on the power brick should be green.
No thats not whats wrong its a gpu fault you can tell by how at first the console would turn on and then the screen was starting to glitch so itz a gpu fault
The Power brick could be broken
Take the board out stick it between 2 pieces of foil place it in your preheated oven at 385 degrees for 10 minutes ..it should reconnect all the solder points on the board
Just change the thermal paste and make sure the CPU and the GPU are in there thing the 3 red ring are usually CPU or the CPU is up a little bit. Is not a over heat issue because it has HDMI female plug is a console hardware update. That's what usually fix them permanently. I have done in the passed plenty of times. Yep. Its deadso. 3 rings is the RRoD we all know and love. As a 360 owner I honestly had doubts that it worked since it's out of a dumpster and, well, it's a Phat model of the Xbox 360.
Maybe you should do that best trick that can fix the system like putting cut q-tips in the fans and then the 360 will show up the 2 red rings.
I have all the stickers + hd as well on my used console. Never opened; light use. Its just the avi 4 rings; same one color doesn't want it and sometimes it does, but one its on, I'll plug them all back in.

You have the RROD, my friend.
From what I can see, all the little black screws were in fact which makes me believe that someone tried to fix it and gave up. Give it a reflow using some flux on the GPU and CPU as well as the RAM chips and you should be sweet. Be years since I've fixed a 360! Good luck.
Easy fix for it, just unplug the wire going to the power brick, then plug it back in, if one Redlight appears, then it means your DVD or hard drive is bad
The video chip is running hot most likely. You can try the red ring fix or a reflow on the chips. It is fixable though
The three red lights are a gpu failure. This could be temp fixed but there is no proper fix to this issue. Even a reball would not be worth and that would also be temp. Seems to be a falcon model which were know to have failures. In reguards to the power supplys the metal tip one is a 203w power supply that will work with all mobo versions expect the jasper. The small power supply you found with it is a 150w power supply for a jasper mobo. Was worth the try and hey you got a free game with it haha.
Thanks for the tutorial! Now my xbox 360 works!
The 3 red flashing lights is unfortunately the red ring of death...HOWERVER if this happens you can get a for digit error code from the lights if you press the eject button and sync button at the same time four times... all four lights mean 0... 1 light means 1... 2 lights mean 2... and 3 lights mean 3... with that error code you can google it to find out what the exact issue is.
