Shadow Of The Colossus was one of the biggest reasons people started considering video games as a form of art. It was simply too ahead for its time. You may criticise it for the clumsy movement of Wander and Agro but at the end of the day you are supposed to feel insignificant compared to the stone giants you are facing. Your horse is an entity on its own, you are not controlling the horse you are holding the reins of a powerful and fearless horse. The only legitimate problem is the camera that can be a pain in the ass to control but most of the times works perfectly and sets some amazing scenes of you evading, chasing, climbing and "executing" the colossi. The empty land that you explore provides an atmosphere unparalleled by other games and really translates its name "The forbidden lands". To top it all of you have an amazing score that manages to PERFECTLY capture everything that you experience, eerieness, epicness, sorrow, determination and relief. Shadow Of The Colossus was the game that blew my mind as a 6 year old playing it with my older sister and father (1 colossus per week), we would take our time to explore the emptiness of these Lands and fight the majestic beings that were in our way of rescuing that mysterious girl. The only other games I remember playing back then were Mario,Donkey Kong and Pokemon so experiencing something so grand, something so beautiful, something so... different is to this day the best experience I have ever felt. Thank you Shadow Of The Colossus for everything.

44:17 always gets me. Such epicness tinged with the majesty of the choruses. Otani did such an incredible work of art with this soundtrack, you can really feel all the grandeur, the slow march of the colossi in the music.
24:41 You jump into the lake, the giant Avion just in the background and this amazing song starts... a bunch of memories from my childhood with this game! I simply can't believe this was a PS2 game. Completly masterpiece!
How can a soundtrack be so magical... It's like I'm in the middle of those landscapes feeling that sun and wind whilst beholding those ruins and nature from a legendary past...
Probably one of the best emotional soundtracks I ever heard in my entire life. This sounds transported u in another environment I would like a second part of this masterpiece.
It strikes me as incredible that 45:11 "Prayer", doesn't ever get mentioned. I don't know what it is about this little piece of music but I feel like it totally encompasses Wanderer's thoughts and feelings about Mono (the dead girl he laid out on the pedestal). I can just FEEL how strongly he must feel to bring her back alive, how much he loves her, how much he's desperate to make whatever happened to her nothing but a horrid memory. What's so important about it as a piece is it shows that his intentions for stealing the sword and doing his task may be morally ambiguous, but his love for the girl he's trying to save is, at the very least, pure.

Everyone out here talking about The Opened Way, A Despair-Filled Farewell, A Violent Encounter, even Demise of the Ritual (which are all amazing tracks don't get me wrong- every track from this game is amazing), but nobody ever mentions The Sunlit Earth, my personal favorite of all time. While the hawk is flying around, you just reflect on what you have done, what it was all for, the price you paid, and if it was worth it. You get so many different and conflicting feelings at once, and there's honestly not a better sensation in the world than that.
I dont know why but this game makes me depressed, the entire setting of the journey the backstory the landscapes the huge majestic beings that roam around this forbidden lands, the bridge thats way up high and in the end it was.... all for nothing. The soundtrack is so beautiful it always tears me up ,the people who made this game are true artists and its just so sad we wont ecer know what happens after, well never get a game like this again i guarantee you , such a true masterpiece.. im broken
I've commented once on this video already, but coming back after a while, I just need to say something else. I genuinely think that my greatest desire would be the ability to completely forget anything of my choosing at any time. Not only would it be great for forgetting terrible things that happen, but it would allow me to relive masterpieces such as this game as if it was my first experience with it. I still have the same feelings that I did the first time, both from playing it and just listening to the OST, but they're just slightly lessened, and it keeps going ever so slightly down each time. I still get the same full-body chills/excitement when I listen to my favorite track, The Sunlit Earth, as I made quite obvious in my other comment, but it'll just never quite be the same as my first time hearing it. I can wholeheartedly say that I wish I could have this ability over anything else, and I would definitely give just about anything to have it were I given the choice.
In awe of power is such a moving track. Ive always felt the main protagonist's struggle in that song. His struggle to save someone who means the world to him. It didnt matter that he was told about the consequences. An act of love at its core. A masterpiece. Btw thanks for uploading this :)
48:48 (Wander reaches the end of the arena and the everything shakes) Yes. (Agrus climbs up onto the arena) YES. ("Gatekeeper of the Castle Ruins" starts playing) YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS.
Yes, it adds to the guilt of killing them as they weren't doing anything wrong, just standing vigil over a place long abandoned and fulfilling their purpose.
I love the fact that so few of us played this game, made it's majesty all the more appealing. beautifully crafted story, scenery, music and boss fights and the ending a welcome detour to the mass happy endings we get in almost every other form of entertainment. Score = 11/10 MARVELLOUS remake. You should be so proud and im sure if Kow Otani has heard this he would be so flattered
oh man... they *did* remaster it. People need to learn the difference between remake and remaster. The sound track was remastered for the ps4 remake. They didn't change anything, they just made it sound better, that's what remaster means.
@A N C doesn't matter what the devs say. Words have definitions and meaning for a reason. If it's a remake, they made it from the ground up. Like shadow if the colossus. If they updated the graphics and nothing more, then it's a remaster. Simple as that. If the devs fuck it up its their fault for not knowing what they're saying. They remastered the music for shadow of the colossus, because they made it sound like there were more instruments playing. They remade the game because they started working on it from nothing, even if little was changed.
This game is so unique. It is very sombre and desolate like Dark Souls, has a vast and beautiful world like Zelda, and the collosi are majestic titans like those from Monster Hunter. We feel so much from this game, and yet we were given so little at the same time.
Just played this for the first time and honestly the soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in a game. A despair filled farewell blew me away especially the first time it played riding the giant bird. Goosebumps.
21:55 (Revived Power) gives me the sufficient energy to rise a city from ashes and live a long and happy life with my fellas no matter what, no matter how. Pure inspiration. I'm speechless
What a game. Every time I play it I am sent back to 2007 when I first beat this masterpiece. I beat the game in one sitting and it only took a few hours, but those were some of the most memorable few hours I have ever had when playing a game
This is one of the games that make you feel kid again, the comfortable thoughts you had as a child, the silent space beyond your console, like nothing else matters but your room
Interessantemente acho que tenho uma leve preferência pelo de Ps2,o remake tem gráficos muito melhores, mas a saturação causada pelas limitações deixa a atmsofera ainda mais solitária e morta, sem falar das telas de game over.
I love every second of the scores beautifully composed, you can feel like wonder with the epic climax of music that almost sways your emotions, thank you japan
Sadly there is only one "first time" of this game. No matter how you beat it after that, you will never have that joy of wonder and wander about it. The near ecstacy when you discover the puzzles and tricks of every Colossi and get that "Opened Way" playing. Not to mention actually bringing them down. The glory of the achievement combined with the strange melancholic feeling, when something so grand is felled. The mystery of the plot as you slowly start to piece it together and also start to figure, how Wander is being used by the Dormin, while still ultimately fulfilling their part of the bargain. You will only once truly experience the loss of Hagro, your faithful though at times silly companion throughout the game. And only once will you watch through the credits and epilogue that gives a true payout to all your sacrifice and toil: how your beloved was resurrected and that Hagro actually survived. Experiences like this are the only reason I'd ever brainchip myself, if it granted pin point memory erasure, so that I can experience some pieces of fiction for the first time all over again.
To this day, I have never heard a soundtrack as beautiful, and emotionally powerful as Shadow of the Colossus. No matter how many times I hear it, the music overwhelms me. Few titles come close to its caliber...
I was herre like searching for this song without knowing the name, i randomly clicked upon your coment and it was the song I was looking for. How weird is that???
This game was vast oceans of calm interrupted by extreme bouts of epic heroism. Your spirit always had just enough time to heal before the next big fight and you get hit with that new music score. Each colossus is brilliant and has its own personality. Everything from the placid wilderness to Wander’s gravity defying leaps makes this game feel like one big epic dream. It nailed every fantasy motif with as few components as possible, begging us to wonder what else lies in store in that forgotten land.
After years of playing this game, I just now noticed that Black Blood at 7:54 shares a motif with Liberated Guardian at 41:04 . It's little things like these that make the OST so high quality from orchestral composition standpoint.
1:04:24 Stays my favourite. I'm 21 now, but I remember being only 9 years old when I first played this game with my older cousin, on our small crappy tv, during the breezy, silent summer nights.. Brings back memories.
The man who came up with all these games (Ico, Shadow, and Guardian) is a freaking genius. A megamind, even. The architecture is especially cool. Just look at the castle in this game, or pretty much every structure in The Last Guardian. He REALLY knows how to make something look insanely grand.
17:11 criminally underrated. I've always heard it after each colossus dying, and it has so much bittersweetness, because it supposed to comfort a beast when it's dying, and us after a victory, to give us hope that it all has a meaning. And at the final cutsene, it has a very different meaning when we die just like they all did, and melody instead is hopeless, and signifying our end.
Revived Power has been THE timeless song that plays in my head when I think back on when I played through this game on PS2, such a mind blowing experience as a kid

@@Aggient BioShock is one of my favorite games but... how is the soundtrack amazing?
butterpastor Welcome to Rapture, Dancers on a string, Cohens masterpiece and Ocean on his shoulders are pretty amazing tracks
Why cant we have more games this good. Man this game really made my life better
Bloodborne is very different but it's this good
There's still hope... passion and creativity must triumph over business models and trend chasers

Bloodborne is like an 8.5/10
It has a really bad healing system, some of the bosses have broken hitboxes and can be cheesed ( especialy the hunter bosses execpt lady maria from the dlc),it has the best story out of the souls games BUT it isn't explained as well as the souls games.the PVP is the worst after demon's souls.
You HAVE to play aggresive to win the bosses and playing it fancy by dodging will get you killed.
Still a great game
Not even close to something like sotc, dark souls 1 or terraria but as i said still great
Mainly indie. AAA devs are just so greedy
Some of the best AAA devs aren't the same anymore

Naughty dog
Bungie
Rockstar ( kinda)
Blizard

Alejandro Arcila best part
21:55 is the best score in gaming
I put my faith in you. I was not disappointed.
44:17 always gets me. Such epicness tinged with the majesty of the choruses. Otani did such an incredible work of art with this soundtrack, you can really feel all the grandeur, the slow march of the colossi in the music.
19:58 A Violent Encounter is my favorite. Gives me so many chills.
This is my favorite one lol
It sounds familiar. Sounds like the sort of music you'd get if you skydive onto avion or something.
Especially at 20:11 when that part of music starts , that's the best thing takes me to the whole new world
The Opened Way is the MOST intense piece of music in the game, in my opinion. The sense of urgency in the song is crazy.
Nahhh listen to the sonic drowning theme. That's intense.
How awesome it must have been to play in this orchestra.
no joke they were fucking rocking this shit
24:41 You jump into the lake, the giant Avion just in the background and this amazing song starts... a bunch of memories from my childhood with this game! I simply can't believe this was a PS2 game. Completly masterpiece!
44:22 The moment when Avion does a Barrel Roll. Holy shit, the first time I felt goosebumps in a videogame

33:26 just gives me chills, it's just so fitting and makes you feel uneasy, one of my favourite tracks from the game.
Similar feeling with 7:54
YESSS
Creeping shadow has similar vibes to some legend of Zelda skyward sword music
51:24 - My personal favourite. I do love Swift Horse and A Despair-filled Farewell, but I always get goosebumps with Demise of the Ritual, always.
How can a soundtrack be so magical...
It's like I'm in the middle of those landscapes feeling that sun and wind whilst beholding those ruins and nature from a legendary past...
One of my favorite soundtracks of all time
I love this one, and skyrim.
Yeah Skyrims is amazing
Sitting up there with terraria
47:03 Agro the best video game horse ever!!!
hands down
Epona
nah. i don't think epona helps you take down giant monsters ever.
also, epona doesn't come to you without being called. Agro stays as close as possible most times.

21:55 is my favorite
This soundtrack proves this game is a work of art. To Kow Otani ... thank you for the incredible music.
He also composed the soundtrack for GMK, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

I want this at my funeral
I just finished this game, cried for an hour :(
i remember when i first thought i finished the game only to be plagued more questions than answers, dragging me back and back to the game.
Finishes few hours ago... Well, I don't play these games and I never swore so much during game, I hate the camera and controls, but man... The game was... Just wow.
I finished it this week, i've spent all the last days looking for fanarts and fanfics
I remember beating the game, (back then I didn't have TH-cam) and thought there was an alternate ending. So I replayed it over and over getting the same result. Making me even sadder.
this game is art. i'm always in love with the soundtrack, the graphics and the history. sotc will never be forgotten, no matter the year.
I think a lot of people like that one too
Finally.
It sounds like the music is telling you the ending is happy but in your mind you know it's an unfinished story.
I dont know why but this game makes me depressed, the entire setting of the journey the backstory the landscapes the huge majestic beings that roam around this forbidden lands, the bridge thats way up high and in the end it was.... all for nothing.
The soundtrack is so beautiful it always tears me up ,the people who made this game are true artists and its just so sad we wont ecer know what happens after, well never get a game like this again i guarantee you , such a true masterpiece.. im broken
This is the masterpiece of a lifetime, if I was Kow Otani I could definitely die in peace knowing I've left this for the world to listen.
29:28 = The Farthest Land is very pretty.
Finally ty
The best
Watching the horse riding free with this music was surely inspiring.
Cristián Paris yes, just a horse being free lmao
Using this to sleep was the best idea I've had all year. I'll watch it awake as well, but some of the music is just so serene
In awe of power is such a moving track. Ive always felt the main protagonist's struggle in that song. His struggle to save someone who means the world to him. It didnt matter that he was told about the consequences. An act of love at its core. A masterpiece.
Btw thanks for uploading this :)

How can people don't give enough credit to one of the saddest songs ever created? It's beyond my knowledge.
Score = 11/10
MARVELLOUS remake. You should be so proud and im sure if Kow Otani has heard this he would be so flattered
I'm so happy they didn't "remaster" the soundtrack like they did with Final Fantasy games, this score is perfect the way it is.
Sexpialidocious WHAT?! Fuck it. I'm out.
oh man... they *did* remaster it.
@A N C why do your comments always have one like immediately
@Emergence I needed an explanation so I can get likes on my comments as well. I never get anything. I need fake internet points to live.
This game is so unique. It is very sombre and desolate like Dark Souls, has a vast and beautiful world like Zelda, and the collosi are majestic titans like those from Monster Hunter. We feel so much from this game, and yet we were given so little at the same time.
I think the main reason I like the game is the zelda similarities and how dark and depressing but hopeful the ending was

Best game ever. I haven't palyed any other game that evoked the same emotions as SOTC since it was released.
Timeless Masterpiece. Wating for the remake on PSVR for PS5

56:23 from prologue to epilogue moment makes me cry
17:11 criminally underrated. I've always heard it after each colossus dying, and it has so much bittersweetness, because it supposed to comfort a beast when it's dying, and us after a victory, to give us hope that it all has a meaning.
And at the final cutsene, it has a very different meaning when we die just like they all did, and melody instead is hopeless, and signifying our end.
