    Using this lens on a Fuji X-E3. Absolutely love this lens. I really like this focal length on APS-C (approx 40mm in 35mm equivalent), and the only native lens that is similar is the XF 27 2.8 which is optically very good but doesn't have an aperture control and is not as punchy as the Kamlan.
    I agree with the feel on the rings. They are precise and you have a great control over your image. It has good heft to it, which helps stabilize it, and I actually keep the lens hood (mine came with a metal one!) on it as it gives you a bit more balance and secure hold.
    The KamLan 50mm F1.1 II is also great.

    Really great production you got going on there! I also use the Kamlan and love it on my aps-c Fujifilm, where this lens is somewhat niche with its ~40mm equivalent. This focal length is so great that i would love more options in this range.

    I love this lens a lot too. Together with 50mm 1.4 absolutely a joy to shoot manually. I don`t agree with you comment about size and weight, this is one point why I like to shoot it, like a good Voightlander lens.I use them on Fuji xpro2.

      Thank you so much, I'm very glad you enjoy my work, it really means a lot to me. I haven't had the chance to use the Kamlan 21mm myself and have also noticed there's a lack of reviews for it so it's hard to say what the general opinion on it is. I am considering getting it as well as the 50mm f1.1 Mark ii in the near future and if it proves to be as good as the 28mm I'll be sure to make a video about it.

    Boris! Just love your work. Beautiful images, precise info, fun to watch.
    As a begginer in microfreaking4thirds there's a thing i don't get. This is the mount. So is It that an Olympus omd em5 (why such long names in tiny cameras?) and a gh7 share the same mount more like in the M42 screw mount era?
    So you can maybe use anything in the "micro43rds" mount if it is name like this?
    I am an apsc user from one of those brands nobody heard of nowadays (Pentax) and I am considering a low budget holiday or street photo option and this kind of camera like the gh7 appeals to me by its look and aesthetics and functionality also. I have a rangefinder film camera (a Yashica Mg-1) and I find it so fun to use so maybe anything similar at a budget would be fun. But yet again I am a noob here. I know, I know, if you are rich the choice is simple and starts by L and ends by Eica. Not my case here.
    Well thanks for everything, I don't know where you went on holidays but the place looks stunning and I will jump to another video of yours! Br!

    You know I think we all get really spoiled about weight. Pick up a old kowa, Mamiya RZ on Old Hasselblad. It kind of humbles me the never complain too much about a couple of grams. I also don't mind sacrificing a little bit of weight knowing that my lenses going to be around 10 years from now.

So in your opinion does this Kamlan 28mm have some what of a retro type look or modern? Solid ending BTW you got it pop'n with this review man. Thanks for introducing me to this Kamlan brand. your video is amazing and I like the way you explain things, it looks like a WOW lens, I have just recieved my KAMLAN 21mm 1.8, and let me tell you, it is amazing too , I was thinking even to get the 28mm at the time but because I got my sigma 30mm 1.4 for my canon m50, so I got that focal lens coverd, although I'm still thinking to get it for such an amazing colors straight out of your camera.
    Thanks again, and I hope you can do more and more constant videos on cameras or shooting (at least weekly), I would like to be one your fans, believe me, with such a video editing quality and professional voice you will only need not long time before your videos goes viral. I would love personally to learn how you shoot, direct and edit your videos to be such cinematic :)

    I used it on Sony a6000 in par with the legendary Carl Zeiss T 50/1.4 CY. Why? It is only just a bit less good then CZ. And that is more then good result. This Kamlan remains sharp and fun even at F1.4. 100% keeper lens.

    • @boristakovski
      @boristakovski  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry about the late reply. I added that text in After Effects, I don't know if there's a tutorial for it but it's fairly simple to do, you just create a text layer and then right click on it to make it a 3D Layer and that lets you angle and rotate it in such a way where it gives it a bit of a 3D look. I also created a mask and a separate layer for the ridge or hill in front of the text so that it looks like the text is behind it, adding to the 3D look. Hopefully that answers your question.

  • @dominicpclarke
    @dominicpclarke ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks I'll probably get this lens later. It has a nice look, I'm worried that the character of the lens is lost/lesser when on m43 because we get less of the edges??

    • @boristakovski
      @boristakovski  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think you lose much of the character because of the edges as this is not like one of those vintage lenses that has swirley bokeh so you'd want to get the edges and all for the full effect. The character of this lens is present even on a crop sensor. In terms of the crop, you just have to think about whether 28mm is the right focal length for your needs. I'm currently shooting on a GH4 and the 2.3x crop factor you get when shooting 4K really limits the use of this lens to only close-ups, whereas on a 2x crop and especially a 1.5 crop it is much more versatile. A very good alternative if you're looking for something a little wider is the Kamlan 21mm f1.8, it's a very solid lens that has a very simmilar look and it's just as solidly built as the 28mm.

    • @dominicpclarke
      @dominicpclarke ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boristakovski Thanks for the info. I did see some swirly bokeh when mounted on an fuji - this tells me that we don't get that when cropped in more. 28mm would be perfect for what I want, I'm using a 25mm but it vignettes too much with my anamorphic mounted on. Stuff to ponder about.

  • @unbroken1010

    would you prefer this lens than the laowa 17mm on M43 if you only have to choose one?

    • @boristakovski
      @boristakovski  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I would choose the 17mm for M43 as that's roughly equivalent to 35mm on full frame, which is a good standard focal length capable of both wide shots and some close up work

    How about the color aberration or fringing at f1.4? I have the Meike 35mm f1.4 and thinking of selling it because the sharpness and aberrations are terrible at wide open.

    • @boristakovski
      @boristakovski  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't say I've noticed much color fringing at f1.4 like I have with some other lenses. The big weakness with the Kamlan when used wide open is that it flares quite a lot.

  • @unbroken1010
    @unbroken1010 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So has anybody use this on the Fuji sensor I'd like to hear some opinions also how bad is the Meike I really don't mind stopping down if it holds up I think I see them for like 40 or 50 bucks right now. It might be an interesting lens if I can take it apart spray paint some nice purple in there get myself a weird little lens going

    • @boristakovski
      @boristakovski  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. I guess it would have to be my Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35mm f2.4. It's a vintage M42 mount lens which makes it very adaptable and I've used it on Dslrs, mirrorless cameras and even for shooting film and I've always been happy with the results.
