One day, I was stunned to see my goat patting the chicken with her face, stroking each side of the chicken gently with her cheeks. I watched for a good while, then ran sobbing to the house, saying. "I will never eat that goat!" How can I? I was the one who killed the little rooster.

That's so cute. This reminds me of the beagle my family had who brought 3 wild infant rabbits home to us in her mouth alive. We raised them til they were old enough and released them in the wild. She was a hunting dog, so it really surprised us.
I've actually seen a case where a cat who wasn't pregnant or had kittens, adopted a chicken that belonged to the man that rescued him as if to repay the man for his kindness, the cat started to look after the chicken as if it was his own and protected it from other animals. For this video to suggest that cats would never adopt other baby animals unless it was in that narrow window of time when they are suckling their young is actually very misleading. This sort of misinformation was what had blinded my eyes to the complex world of cats for most of my life.
Yes, they made too much of the hormones. The same behavior is even observed in BOY cats & dogs. They don't lactate, but they'll adopt small animals & inanimate objects as their babies. Look up "sneaky cat" here.
