I think the first half, the half that mimics the MMO aspect is rather sedate for a reason. It makes the hard contrast of the back half hit way harder mechanically and emotionally.
100% Agree. The problem with it is if a video like this explains it I think it takes away that punch. It worked really well on me who had zero expectation of it, but once you know it's coming it's not shocking.
What? That isnt even a cohesive opinion or take. Elaborate please. As of now i get hte impression that you are upset at difficulty. Please let me know in a way that actually makes some kind of sense.
I'm playing this game right now and I'm quite frustrated with the aim puzzles at the ice dungeon. The problem with the puzzles are that the game mechanics like aim and jump are bad, they are easy to figure out but annoying to execute.
Fully agree with you. I LOVED this game, but the art style did not mesh with the acurate depth needed for some platforming and aiming. I had to point my orbs at maaaany a platform I was jumping to, to make sure there wasn't an illusion making a tall object seem short, or a far object seem close. One thing they did fucking brilliantly and almost imperceptibly is make the floors in most dungeons give you a template for the angles you needed on really tough ones. Even that last puzzle does it.
I love this game.... it reminds me of The Secret of Mana meets Cosmic Heroine, meets SAO. Speaking of SAO, Alicization Lycoris is kinda boring until you get through chapter 1 then it’s absolutely amazing.
@@dropdedgothish Plenty of great puzzles in the game, but it 100% became tedious at times. Still incredible overall, the puzzles were just overdone at times.
@@dropdedgothish I too am in the same boat approximately, but being frank in the overworld some puzzles for chests could use some hints on where to at least start, because seeing an out of reach box that needs a set up 3 rooms down the line is frustrating.
Love this game since I'm a nostalgic snes rpg jrpg player any game that looks like a snes game always appeals to me this game is fun I've been playing for two days and it's fun and challenging worth spending the dub
I disagree with a combat comment, I think this game scales up and introduces enemies really brilliantly. I love finally "learning" an enemy for two to pop up. It's like the game saying "oh, yeah?" I am sad that the enemies from areas never make another appearance. Maybe it would get "same-y" but after investing time to learn how to counter and decimate a frobbit, I wanted to have to flex that from time to time.
I don't think the puzzles are repetitive. Each one is unique in its own right and they're challenging enough to warrant actual thinking. A perfect puzzle system in my opinion.
It sounds awesome but I'm glad I rented it first because I suck so badly at dashing and aiming that I couldn't even get past the last tutorial battle :(
how hard is this game anyone i would like to give it a go but i dont like not being able to finish games so if its hard ill give it a miss. i heard the game has difficulty sliders but how flexible is this system can you make the game go from super difficult to a cake walk or is there always going to be a degree of challenge regardless. any info would be appreciated.
I was able to play it flawlessly without the sliders until the end. By that point it was more about being annoyed by how unforgiving last few dungons are. With sliders for puzzles and dmg was a breeze. Its very beatable without sliders but didnt really feel like breaking my control on the 15th attempt on something.
First off: If you don't like platform style jump puzzles don't buy this game. Also while the game DOES have sliders to reduce how much damage you take/how often they attack, and how fast puzzles reset it it will only make the game boring when you realize how the enemy's are nearly all giant damage sponges. Think of this while watching the characters HP bar in this video, noting how fast you die.
Whoever was playing for the demo needs to learn some strategies for these enemies... Dodge the robots in the mine and they become vulnerable! Shoot the shark skeletons with a charged ball when they jump!
I remember the combat in this game being pretty fun. Unfortunately the reviewer only uses the ranged attack and basic melee the whole time so made it look pretty boring. Use more abilities!
I lost my save , maybe half way through the 'story' , still hadn't started imo... I think the gameplay is some of the best ever in a game, but do they come through with the story? because all the first half was really lame
Don't know if you ever got back in but just in case, the game picked up rapidly at the end of Chapter 6, beginning of Chapter 7. Outta nowhere complete tonal shift that cemented CrossCodes story as one of the best for me.
Also, just gotta put this out here, I really enjoyed just vibing with the gang for the first half. Their character and the gameplay allows for the main plot to be on the back burner for a good while.
@@Enigmalake It's not about belief. 8's are universally known as great or very good. Gamingbolt in particular specifies it on their website: gamingbolt.com/gamingbolts-review-policy
First of all, why would you compare it to Celeste? I think both are great games that are very complex and appeal to many types of players. Though, I think it just got unlucky with advertising. I never heard about it before I saw it on a youtube video. 2nd, though the game is incredible, the slow start to the story and the long dungeons will push some players away.
The trick is to exploit the elemental weaknesses of enemies and use the "break" function that stuns enemies and multiplies your damage towards them. For example, in the 2nd dungeon, you face this jellyfish enemy that takes up to a minute to beat just by attacking normally. But, [spoilers] (kinda) By using your basic attack to shoot their attacks back at them, you can break them and kill them in just 4 attacks
I love everything about this game except the stupid bouncy ball puzzles. It is an atrocious game mechanic and doesn’t even belong in a game like this. Once again we get screwed with never ACTUALLY getting a friggin deep pixel art action rpg.
I think that was a really bad example. It's got the idea but the two are completely different. CrossCode uses the fact that it's a "game in a game" to add to its charm with dialogue. Basically, it doesn't just use the concept as an idea. Its a completely different world with an actually good story that will make you emotional once you piece it together.
@@TryHardGamerYT Doesn't really matter. Cuphead is awesome and I'm glad I bought it. CrossCode will be on sale again sooner or later and then I'll pick it over some other great game. We can only spend it once.
