    Without a doubt one of the most iconic sketches in British comedy history. Right up there with Four Candles and the Dead Parrot sketch. Trigger called Rodney Dave for over 20 years and it never got tired. The quality of the physical acting is also at the highest level. Roger Lloyd-Pack could say more with an expression than most actors with a line of dialogue. Same of course with Del Boy falling through the bar. If you look back through the greatest British comedy shows it's often the physical acting that stands out. John Cleese in Fawlty Towers, Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder, Joanna Lumley in Ab Fab, Fry and Laurie in Jeeves and Wooster. You can watch any of these sketches a thousand times and they never get old. RIP Roger.

      @AM2K2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      To save anyone else googling! "The Ship of Theseus" is a thought-provoking philosophical paradox and a famous topic of discussion in metaphysics. It raises questions about identity and change. The paradox goes like this:
      Imagine a ship, known as the Ship of Theseus, that over time has had all of its wooden parts replaced with new ones. Eventually, every single part of the ship has been replaced. Is it still the same ship, or has it become a completely different entity?

    Something that always gets overlooked is the fact that Boycie, who clearly has money and some form of success, is still hanging around the same pub and cafe as the likes of del and trigger. Part showing off, part he doesn't fit in with the upper classes as much as he wants too preferring to be the one above everyone in the group.

      I wouldn't say he was rich he came from the same background as del did, owns a second hand car dealership of witch most of the cars are Dodgy and has some very shady associates, yes he has a bit of money but no he was never "rich" he just liked to act as if he was

      well yeah, a liquid millionaire working class guy is always going to end up in the same street and pub., just lording it. He wont fit in anywhere else. Michael Caine and Tom Jones tried moving classes with money, they failed. Loads of birds though.

      Sullivan said in his books. Del and Rodney always had aspirations to get rich, but never forgot where they came from. Boycey on the other hand was just a working class snob, who looked down at his old friends.

    Apparently the UK ( one of only two still flying) Lancaster has just had a new tail made and fitted. When I read about this it brought back memories of Triggers Broom. The Lancaster has different engines, new tail, various other parts have been made for it over recent years. It's highly doubtful that there are any original parts still left. I suggest it be renamed Triggers Lanc!

    Wow, hadn't seen this for years and my memory of it was a very short scene with few lines.
    However there are lots of good lines and the buildup to the punchline is slowly but brilliantly paced.
    It shows what a fantastic cast of actors they had .Just wonder if David Jasons reaction to the punchline is him losing it or not,
    that's how great he is!

    The backstory behind Trigger constantly calling Rodney Dave is as follows: It was never meant for Trigger. However, Roger Lloyd Pack in his early days suffered from rare mental condition that kept him forgetting names of characters around him. At first it really was Lloyd Pack unintentionally doing that, but in time his condition has improved. But, since Dave thing was simply perfect for Trigger, it was simply kept afterwards. In the first episode of the show, when Trigger and Rodney appear together for the first time, Trigger calling Rodney Dave was actually an ad lib by Lloyd Pack. This was confirmed by John Sullivan and Lloyd Pack.

    • @jamesthecat
      @jamesthecat ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patagualianmostly7437You're right of course, but I suspect actors had an input too (they often do). In this scene especially, since Ronnie Barker's character Arkwright makes the same joke about a broom in the sitcom Open All Hours (it's in the second series episode 'Laundry Blues', ie before OFAH was even commissioned), so it's likely that the idea came from his co-star David Jason.
