Wow. Stumbled across this video. So probably I think back in 1981 or maybe 82. Just after my Mom divorced my dad. He and I drove this road together in a 77 Silverado. I have not been on that road since. It will be a trip with my Dad I will never forget. Both my parents are passed. My mission now is to drive this rd with my now adult kids. That trip with just me and my Dad will forever be one of my favorite memories. Bless you for posting this.
So glad you found our video, and that it brought back some fond memories for you! Appreciate you watching, and please let us know if you get to drive it and how it went!
We love driving this just as the trees are starting to bud in the Spring time. The buds add nice color but still has outstanding views with less foliage. We always stop at Mingo Falls after this drive.
We were 3/4 the way around this drive one time an a 6 inch diameter tree was down across the road. Shortly after we got there another couple showed up. Between us all we were able to get the tree moved enough to get around.
We went the day before you and never saw Elk. You probably started earlier in the day. We came from Weaverville. It was still a nice ride in the woods. Loved where the streams crossed. You took a nice video, thanks for sharing!
Yes. we where up there around 7:30am, to get morning light for our video. The Elk are out more in the early morning, and late evenings. Thank you, and glad you enjoyed the video!
Awesome video! Unrelated question...where is the location in your opening title scene (0:08 mark) with the three kids and the dog? So beautiful. Thanks!
Just lots of parking, walking, putting the camera down, walking back, then driving by and hoping it turned out ;-) Jenn was driving some as well, while I was behind the camera. Not so much tricky as it is time consuming.
I have been watching all of these TH-cam channels to get ideas of trails to hit in my Gladiator. This one looks like it is really nice. What video editing software do you use? I am just getting started with YT, there is a ton of software out there. I just subed and liked to try to help out your channel with the algos
Hey, thanks for watching! It's a beautiful drive and one of our favorites. We use Adobe PremierePro, and shoot with Canon M50s, GoPros, and even our iPhones at times. Appreciate the sub, and wish you the best - TH-cam is a lot of work, but fun.
Should be fine under normal conditions. Just avoid the pot holes, which isn't hard to do. We were surprised when we recorded this, the road was in fantastic shape.

It's a great drive anytime. Each season offers it's own benefits. Thanks for watching!
Nice job of capturing the essence of that road. We did it a few weeks ago and plan to go back for fall color.
Thanks so much, we plan to go again in the Fall as well.
Beautiful scenery. Hopefully I can see it for myself and my camera next week

thanks for the video, since its a one way rd is there a similar rd to come back on ?
No there isn't, you loop back through Cherokee and up Soco Rd into Maggie Valley.

Thank you and appreciate you watching! That photo was taken at Max Patch, NC - th-cam.com/video/EjY5z7LebOc/w-d-xo.html
What road are you on where the antlered wildlife are crossing ? I heard, " at the end of Balsam my road, at beginning of video
Balsam Mountain/Heintooga Rd, off the Blue RIdge Parkway. There is a link to our guide with directions in the description.
@@Blueridgemountainlife thanks. I have the link saved to 2 devices
Is the bridge where once was a a drive through the creek, on park service or tribal land?(toward the end of the video.)
Drake Leroy I’m not 100% sure, but I think it’s park land.
Isnt that tricky, having a video section of your jeep coming down the trail?

One way traffic on the gravel road?
One way for the majority of it, then it turns into 2-way traffic once you get to Cherokee. There are signs indicating 1-way and 2-way.

Tried to do this in July and the gate was shut. 😞
We had the same issue, but fortunately they opened it back up. It was supposed to stay closed through the year.
Would a car handle this? Doesn’t look as bad as the gravel road in Virginia we took to the Devils Bathtub, lol

Thanks for the reply and for sharing your experience.
@Kevin Our pleasure!
We took my Rav 4. It was just fine!
If it's one way where's the start?
Hey Charles, there is a guide linked in the description that has all the details. Thanks for watching!
Looks like Ohio not that impressed
Thanks for watching!
We in NC don't really care that you are not impressed!
