So basically, this is a technique that it is now pretty hard to find locks it will work on. Fun to try though :-)
I suppose if this was a very common bypass, you could make a tool like a car-tire-jack that you crank to get tension and it holds the tension for you. It could involved a spring also, to allow a bit of counter movement if needed. I tried to repin a cut-away cheap china lock, by trying to add in some of my own security pins, but couldn't 100% reassemble it properly. It is the gray one with black specs on it. I ended up buying another and didn't take it apart. I also have the clear one in your video. I'm glad you said the tolerances were bad, I thought it was the bitting I had that was so horrible which made it DIFFICULT to SPP without ACCIDENTALLY raking it open when inserting or moving the pick. I can rake it open 100% of the time, instantly in 1 swipe with ANY pick. Oooh wait, I got it and looked at it, the problem, is that they use double sided KeyPins for both the keypins and top pins, which means they both come to a point at the sheerline, which is why the pins, pick themselves. Sparrows still make the “Master Switch” that works pretty well on certain over-marketed padlocks ..
I did this by mistake while fiddling around inside a lock and was like “wtf the core didn’t turn” after seeing this I have replicated it again. At least I know what happened now.

Hmmmm! That was interesting. I tried it on the two acrylic padlocks that I have without any success, but I don’t have the tool that you used. I've only been learning lock picking for about three weeks. Interestingly of the two acrylic padlocks that i have, one key opens both whereas the other only opens one. The padlocks are keyed slightly differently but clearly one has wider tolerances than the other. I also had two Master No 3 padlocks which i can now SPP reasonably quickly sometimes, so I feel I am making progress. I love this sport/hobby and I aim to improve. Your videos certainly are of great educational value. Please keep up the good work.

A hook pick may work better on some locks than the knife shown in the video. On my Master model 140 padlock, I hold the lock so top of the keyway is on top, insert the hook pick with hook down deep into the keyway, and feel around for spring resistance on the right side. Then, I pull slightly on the top of the shackle and push the pick down against spring resistance to pull a latch out of the shackle notch. The shackle pops out of the lock slightly and holds the latch out of the notch. Now I remove the hook pick, turn it over (hook up), and lift up against spring resistance on the left side of the lock. The latch on the other side of the shackle pulls out of the notch and the shackle pops out of the lock.
I didn't know about pulling the shackle. I'll try that on a clear lock later, but maybe it'll also work on one of my really cheap locks which I thought weren't vulnerable. Thanks!

Yep, completely agree... easier to pick than to knife.
Only exception, locks with damaged pins, so always have another tool in your kit.

If you lift the pawl on the sprung side of the shackle first you are taking advantage of the tolerances in the lock and you will not need to put pressure on the shackle while you are doing this. It will click and hold while you retract the other pawl.
I find the shackle tension helps, but if it works, it works :-)
Today I obtained a master lock 140, only because others have reviewed it so I had to see for myself. Went through SPP'ing, raking etc and then trying to bypass and found it needed slight tension on the shackle, upsrung side first and then the sprung side. So, as you said, if it works, it works. Try everything. I've learned from this experience. Love your posts.

Could you use these knives as a tubular pick? I dont have any broken picks or such to pick tubular cores yet
That's what clear locks are for hehe :)..not picking, but for nice demonstrations :D. Very nice :). There are some locks where the actuator is shifted 90 degrees which can not be bypassed this way and also some with a crazy keyway, but many can :).
I only have a few padlocks where this bypass works but it's a fun trick :-)
I can remember a bypass driver (like a golf driver...;D), I think it was for some Abus locks. Got an 83 which is actully protected against that :).

May not work on new locks you are buying for locksports but most locks out there in the wild are years or decades old. I don't know anyone who casually buys new padlocks every few years to replace their existing padlocks "just because".

Ahhhh! I now regret having thrown away that practice lock. I would have tried that trick. I was very disappointed by the last transparent lock I bought because the interior was not made of metal, but of plastic and was chipped away by my picks and tension wrenches very quickly.
What if you put two slim knives and work one side with the one and the other side with the second knife at the same time?
Sami Anttila there are a number of tools that do exactly this -Sparrows even sell some. This vid was more to show how a standard shank/knife that most people might own can be used in the same way :-)

(Note: my Bullkeys brand I had to use a screwdriver and a LOT of force. Be sure you leverage in the center round hole and not the sides around that (second) hole. You have to go through the obvious hole and then there is a second round hole in the MIDDLE area. Don't leverage where the END (NOR AT THE EDGE) of the shackle rests when the shackle is locked or you will break your lock!). I was so excited I had to share this ASAP. I am about to try to repin it right now, I hope it's a standard pin size.... Be careful and take your time, it took me 5 to 10 minutes to get my cover off. I couldn't use a pick like he used in the video, it would have broken the pick instantly. *Don't put Security PIns in the lock, they will jam up unless you file them down to make them have a smaller diameter.*

Maybe put a pump wedge in-between the shakle and body of the lock instead of constantly puling, may be easier. Cheers man

All I have to do is push the tool in and all the way up to pop open the 3 pack of brinks locks I just got at walmart for my trail cams.
Anyone with a pulse can open these locks raking with 1 pass too though.

A bypass driver is a better tool for this than the knife.
There are a few that the knife attack is good for, but the driver is better
If u start with the opposite side it is way easier
