  • Bari is a port city on the Adriatic Sea and the capital of southern Italy’s Puglia region. It's a maze-like old town, Bari Vecchia, which occupies a headland between 2 harbours. Surrounded by narrow streets, the 11th-century Basilica di San Nicola, a key pilgrimage site, holds some of St. Nicholas’ remains. To the south, the Murat quarter has stately 19th-century architecture, a promenade and pedestrianized shopping areas.
Bari and the Puglia region have been largely overlooked by many Italy visitors. However, the area of Puglia, Italy, has grown as both a cultural and historical spot to visit in Italy, as well as a place for beach lovers and those hoping to have a more authentic Italian experience.
Bari has the largest port on Italy's Adriatic coast, and with its access to numerous shipping routes, the city is the foremost economic center in the region after Naples. But Bari is more than a port. It is genuinely an off-the-beaten-path destination, boasting spectacular food, castles, churches, and friendly people.
