- In this video, I will be sharing how I change guitar strings :D You can follow along and save on the cost of sending in to a guitar shop to change for you.
Step 1: Loosen the strings
Step 2: Remove the bridge pins
Step 3: Remove the string ends from the pin holes
Step 4: Remove the strings from tuning head
*Be careful not to cut / poke yourself as strings are sharp at the tuning head
Step 5: Polish and clean / wipe the guitar body
Step 6: Clean and condition the fretboard with Lemon Oil
Step 7: Put on a set of Fresh New Strings
Take note: Choose a string gauge/ thickness most suitable for yourself
12 gauge is recommended, but it is painful for beginners
So it's better to get thinner strings for beginners as it is easier to press
Of course, lighter strings will not sound as good/loud as the thicker ones
But the learning journey would definitely be less painful
8th step: Insert the new string ends into the pin holes
And insert the bridge pins to secure the strings
Pull the string and feel the catch, or else the pins will fly out
9th step: Insert the strings into the tuning heads
Measure one tuning head distance and give the string that amount of slack
We want to give the strings sufficient coils or else it will snap easily
Make one loop on the tuning head before tuning the pegs
Turn the tuning peg in Anti Clockwise direction
Do the same for the following strings
Take note: The strings for GBE is on the other side so its loop is in another direction, ensure the strings are directed inwards, or else you will destroy the string/guitar
Personally, i would give more slack for the thinner strings, measuring 1.5 to 2 machine heads, as the thinner strings are easier to snap we need to give them more coils. Same as the other side, looking at the pegs, turn the tuning pegs in Anti Clockwise direction
10th step: Tune the strings top to bottom EADGBE
Last step: Cut away the excess strings
