- Being able to build shapes is a critical skill in design. Affinity Designer does not have a shape builder tool, but it can still build shapes using the geometry operations!

Thanks ben for the video. The option key and compound shape was new for me.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the video Ben, very helpful! Jason
You bet!
Great vid, thanks a lot for sharing!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
thanks Ben! great video!
Glad you liked it!
superb video ! 👌🏾
Glad you liked it!
Appreciate the video! This process feels insane after getting used to the shape builder tool. Still, affinity seems worth the switch from adobe
Yeah it can feel that way at first, but you actually get used to it pretty quickly once you understand the logic and practice it
@@bendesignsmedia that's a good point. Guess i just need to keep at it. Thanks!
I love that 🐻
great :)
thank you for your tutorials! i'm wondering if I can expand a stroke and combine with the object so they are not separate? (add doesn't work) .In illustrator this was possible, it's a cheat I used in illustrator to create a custom bolder font character (after converting type to curve obviously.)
You are welcome. I might not quite be understanding your question, but if I expand a stroke so that it is separate from the shape and then I select both shapes and choose add, then it does combine them together into a larger shape. Sounds like that is not what is happening for you though.
@@bendesignsmedia exactly. It doesn’t work to add them together. They stay separate. Im doing this with an “outlined” or “changed to curve” type for a logo. And need the font to be a bit bolder.
@@prescottstudio_art hmm...that is so strange, not what I am seeing at all. Are you doing this same process: Type text > convert to curves > add stroke > expand stroke > select letter and stroke > add?
@@bendesignsmedia well... its working now. ugh. not sure what I was dong wrong still but happy its working! Thank you for replies! I appreciate it!
@@prescottstudio_art no problem, glad you got it to work
Thanks! Where is 'expand stroke' on the iPad version? thank you!
if you are using V2 hold down on the object to get the quick menu. Then you will be able to expand the stroke
@@bendesignsmedia In v1 it's under the edit window--great feature!
How scale an object to fit within another irregular shape. Such as half a donut shape. When you scale it doesn’t fit inside it. Thanks
I'm sorry I'm not sure I follow your question, can you elaborate more?
Bro I was wondering something. Are the features in Affinity designer on computer exactly same on ipad. Means there are no extra features on computer right?? Sorry my English is bad :(
They are not 100% the same, but they are very close
@@bendesignsmedia ok thanks for your response :)
No object blend though? That's rather basic stuff known since Corel entered the market in the 90s.
Nope no blend tool
Click and drag over those two? I can't do that at all in my Affinity Designer...
Are you using it on the iPad?
@@bendesignsmedia No on my laptop/wacom tablet. I cannot select things like in Adobe Illustrator, and that can be quite bothersome
@@frisianwarrior2295 Affinity and Illustrator work on different ways of selecting. In Illustrator anything your cursor touches will be selected, in Affinity only objects completely covered by the selection will be selected, that might be the issue. Make sure you are dragging completely over the object.
@@bendesignsmedia But I don't even see a "selection box/square" appear when clicking and dragging the cursor like in your video. Have you changed something in the settings?
@@frisianwarrior2295 No, mine is normal. What tool are you on?
