  • Being able to build shapes is a critical skill in design. Affinity Designer does not have a shape builder tool, but it can still build shapes using the geometry operations!

    Appreciate the video! This process feels insane after getting used to the shape builder tool. Still, affinity seems worth the switch from adobe

      Yeah it can feel that way at first, but you actually get used to it pretty quickly once you understand the logic and practice it

    thank you for your tutorials! i'm wondering if I can expand a stroke and combine with the object so they are not separate? (add doesn't work) .In illustrator this was possible, it's a cheat I used in illustrator to create a custom bolder font character (after converting type to curve obviously.)

    • @bendesignsmedia
      @bendesignsmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are welcome. I might not quite be understanding your question, but if I expand a stroke so that it is separate from the shape and then I select both shapes and choose add, then it does combine them together into a larger shape. Sounds like that is not what is happening for you though.

    • @prescottstudio_art
      @prescottstudio_art 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bendesignsmedia exactly. It doesn’t work to add them together. They stay separate. Im doing this with an “outlined” or “changed to curve” type for a logo. And need the font to be a bit bolder.

      @@prescottstudio_art hmm...that is so strange, not what I am seeing at all. Are you doing this same process: Type text > convert to curves > add stroke > expand stroke > select letter and stroke > add?

In Illustrator anything your cursor touches will be selected, in Affinity only objects completely covered by the selection will be selected, that might be the issue.
