**I love helping people learn about fibre arts... I also have to pay the bills! A lot of work goes into these videos so if you found it helpful, please consider supporting the channel by buying me a ‘virtual coffee’ via my Ko-Fi account : www.ko-fi.com/tinyfibrestudio or joining my Patreon: www.patreon.com/tinyfibrestudio Thank you!**

Well done for taking the bull by the horns and powering on through. Clearly it wasn’t easy but demonstrates that it is often worthwhile doing something even when it isn’t plain sailing and as a beginner spinner it is useful to see different techniques being demonstrated by someone out of their usual comfort zone. I will now try this and it will look dreadful and be frustrating to do, and that’s ok.

Art yarn is not in my wheel house but I really enjoyed seeing it done.

I just found you on here and also recently discovered Ply and bought 51 Yarns. So I'm very much enjoying your in-depth explorations and I'd like to thank you for doing these wonderful videos. I'm enjoying watching this series as I work on SE2SE . I'm a fairly new spinner and I'm learning so much from you. I've had a wheel for a couple of years, but really got started after watching all of Judith McKenzie's classes on Long Tail Media earlier this year. She's a brilliant teacher! :)

Thank you for such a good instructional video. This is the best I have seen simply because for you, it was a new technique to try and you went through the process in the most realistic way you could, letting us know all the tricky parts and how to overcome them. For us new to tailspinning, we need to see just what we will face and you showed us exactly that. I actually think I can do it now. For me, spinning isn't so much about how to use or wear the finished piece, but the process and fun of spinning the technique. Thank you again.

Thank you for this interesting video. I have heard of tail spinning but actually have never seen it demonstrated. I don’t think it is a technique I will ever use. You are a brave spinner👍

Thank you, it is very interesting, watching you, I think it is not the orifice which is giving a problem but rather the hooks?

Thank you Milda. Yes, as it turned out I never had to worry about the width of the orifice but I had to keep checking that the hooks were clear.

I've seen people do it similarly to the third method shown, but they didn't bother with the second single to trap the tail in. In the same video they said some times they can fall off so I guess this would be the best method

As much as I enjoyed this video, I just can’t see me doing this sort of spinning just because I have no use for this sort of yarn, and tend to think it would be wasteful for me to use the yarn in this way lol. Thanks for the video!

Looked frustrating but fun. You pushed your boundary. I’m more a traditionalist also. Don’t think I’m going to try today.

check out Natalie from Namaste Farms! she is a shepherdess and has tailspun tutorials, she explains it really well. She also has lots of cool tutorials and is one of the first people's videos I watched to learn to spin.

Thanks Frances! Funnily enough, hers was one of the videos I watched as research. I think her technique is similar to the second one I showed, but maybe I have to sit and spin while I'm watching her... either that or tailspinning and I just don't 'click'. 😂

    Just an observance
I am hearing impaired. I have the YT volume & my speaker volume at 100% and it barely allows me to hear 'you' / 'your videos' clearly.
This is a common complaint with those just like me who encounter those who record at lower volume levels.
Yes yes yes....I can turn on CC but then I am forced to have to read 'and' try to follow allow with tutorials or import visual instructions/cues and can be exceedingly frustrating and an unpleasant experience when having to go back just to watch or just to read.
You might want to record your video volumes at max or higher at least and allow users to turn them down as needed.
Please consider all users going forward please - Thank you

Thank you so much for your comment. If I remember correctly, this is the first time anyone’s mentioned this issue (doesn’t mean nobody else experiences it, just that you’re the first to say anything!), so thank you for bringing it to my attention and I’m very sorry you’ve experienced this problem with my videos. I care deeply about accessibility and take steps like manually editing the CC of all my recent videos (I’m still working my way through the back-catalogue) to improve the experience for those who need/prefer to use them, but hearing impaired users shouldn’t be forced to use them. In terms of audio levels I have always aimed for around -6 to -12 dB which is the broadcast industry standard. What I wasn’t aware of until I read your comment and did a bit more research was TH-cam’s use of the LUFS loudness measurement. Now I know about that I will do some experimenting with loudness and improve the LUFS on my future videos.
Once again, thank you for alerting me to this issue and many apologies for the frustration you’ve experienced.
Edited to add: Looking at TH-cam’s “Stats for Nerds” (🤷‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️) this video was 17 steps below TH-cam’s maximum LUFS, while a more recent video was 6 steps below. I had changed the way I record audio in the time between those two videos so it may be that more recent ones are already better from a loudness perspective. Nevertheless I shall endeavour to get future videos closer to that limit.

The locks are beautiful but the first technique seems like a nightmare!

    • @TinyFibreStudio
      @TinyFibreStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, I'm sure with more practice I could figure out a way to make it work for me, but I just don't see how you can do the joins without drafting which would mess up the lock.
