hi jay , im looking to do a sunburst finish on a tele body im working on ! im planning on using watco lacquer as a grain filler and as a topcoat and was going to do the burst with an airbrush i have . i was wondering if you might have any suggestions as to what to mix with lacquer to get the black/brown and red tones for the burst thanks
Hi, If you can get some stain, that should work. You won't need much so you'll probably end up buying way more than you need. You can use an alcohol based dye. I'd suggest prepping a piece of scrap wood and doing a bit of trial and error on that before shooting your guitar.

I like the two tones and three tones burst. I would like to see a fender drum kit done in those shades I know fender makes star caster drum kits

Buy a piece of junk $10-20 guitar and practice making that one perfect. Then do the real thing.

Yes.... most of them get a lacquer sealer. Bodies that are intended for a urethane topcoat get something else.
