Hi, is this the case with the a7iii also? I can focus with the rs2 dial after this video, but how do I even know if Ibis has been disabled? And I read so much conflicting info on whether to leave Ibis on or off when using a gimbal. Any ideas? Thanks
Hey Hogo I have my setup using the Sony Multi-cable so that I could use the start/stop feature. I haven't updated my firmware and before I start changing things I just want to make sure that I understand you correctly... so with all of the updated firmware for the Sony a7siii and DJI RS2 will I now be able to use the USC-C cable and control the start/stop, focus, record externally, etc.? And what about optical zoom.? Thanks.
the autofocus is so good on the sony, the novelty of the focus wheel doesn't seem to out weigh the benefits of using the usb-c cable. at 1:33 you can see the camera isn't recognizing the micro usb cable. If you swap that with the usb-c to usb-c dji cable that goes away and you have more menu options to further select behavior if you like. Of course this is all preference. Good video!
Thanks Ramon! Yeah I suspect a lot of people will just stick with the cameras autofocus. However, being able to change exposure from the gimbal is really only possible with the USB-C cable. DJI’s other cable can only really start and stop recording. It comes down to whether or not you need IBIS/external recording and only want to start and stop recording (other cable) vs don’t need IBIS/external recording and want to pull focus or change exposure on the fly (USB-C cable).
Riley, you are awesome. I have a Zhiyun Crane 2S gimbal, which I love and works fantastic with Canon. That said, I now have a Sony a7Siii which did not work with the Crane 2S at all.....That is until you and your video. Your tutelage and menu information of the Sony a7Siii was golden. I now have the record (on/off button) functionality. I am so excited. This is good information to pass on to others. Specifically the "Network Option and Ctrl w/smartphone and PC Remote Funtion" information within the Sony a7Siii menu. I have been trying to get any form of communication from the Sony to the Crane and all avenues lead me to dead ends. Nobody, including Sony or Zhiyun hand and answer. For a long time I thought that my FX3 is just incompatible with RS2 to be able to control the camera like this. Thanks to your video it eventually worked! :) I was really looking forward to test the focus control but it's just choppy... On every lens I tested (35mm 1.8, 55mm 1.8, 24-105mm 4). I guessthat the focus motor is the way to go to achieve a smooth focus pull.
Huge thanks for this solution! It's a bummer that camera IBIS is disabled with the USB C - USB C connection. As smooth as the RSC2 is, I still prefer keeping ibis to help control any microjitters

24-70 GM II question...with the classic aperture control on this lens, I cannot find a way to control my aperture through the gimbal. Have you had any experience with this?
Thank you for an awesome explanation as I followed the steps from this video and using the Sony multi to usb-c able but active track isnt working And i keep getting the following error “raveneye not connected with gimbal or camera HDMI port” which is crazy because I can see the live feed on the phone so I know the HDMI cable is set up correctly. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you Riley. When shooting , are you doing the focus manually or are you using the auto focus ? With my Sony A7 III, the autofocus (AF-C) is disappointing as it is not able to make the focus in realtime while i'm moving. I'm using the sony lens 55mm -1.8. I'm really struggling to use it....
The A73 's autofocus is archaic compared to the newer Sony cams. In fact I would NEVER use auto focus on the A73 for video. But for the A7s3 , Fx3, A74 etc, the auto focus is a fantastic tool that when set up correctly can be used very confidently. So my advice to you, is that if you want/need reliable auto focus, you need to upgrade your camera.

Hi Riley, thank you for your video. I’m going to experiment shortly and wondering if you use the raven eye? If so, will the ISO setting adjuster work? Appreciate your work on this.
If you use the usb c cable you can control the iso, aperture, etc. on your phone with the raveneye but you won't have your live feed on the app. If you use the sony multi cable you can't control the iso, aperture, etc. with raveneye but you will have the live feed on the app with the ability to use active track 3.0
Id much rather know what you can do with the halfpress trigger button on the RS2. can you customize the focusing abilities to do things with it, such as focus standard, where the focusing box centers, or begins following a subject?
@@RileyEndicott I thought you did since you made a video about it, but it does not really matter what gimbal it is. Primarily it depends on how the camera allows you to customize information given through the multicontrol or usb C connector.. Im considering the FX3 for heavy gimbal use, and I need autofocus control with some level of manual overwrite, such as the camera gives you with its buttons, but being unable to touch the camera while flying a gimbal the only option is to utilize the trigger button on the gimbal. That is all you got.. the question is what can you do with it. Not a single youtuber on this planet is talking about it, yet its such an important aspect. If you could select subjects or focusing areas or something similar on a sony camera from the gimbal, it needs to be talked about. Canon does not have those options at all. You can ONLY do a simple AF trigger with the gimbal, mimiking the half press of the trigger button on the camera. There are no custom options for it whatsoever. And you have no info what subject it actually is focusing on when its not a face. It does not show a square on the screen or a tracking indicator initially, you need to press the "AF set to center" in order to show a square, which then can begin tracking a subject, but that button is not triggeble by a gimbal, so you are just guessing whether the camera is focusing on the subject you want to..

Anyone had any issues with pulling focus ? I can't get the front dial wheel to be used as pull focus. I'm using a Sigma DG DN FE 24-70mm Zoom lens. It works with aperture iso etc. Just not Zoom or Focus.
It's a shame that DJI can't set this up to work both ways with a firmware update considering this is one of the most popular cameras on the planet. Also a weird side effect of controlling focus with the wheel: my focus pulling is very choppy for some reason on the 24mm f1.4 gm

I just bought this lens thinking that my Ronin DJI RS2 gimbal would be able to control the Zoom VIA the front dial on the RONIN
But I cant figure it out
I sow one viceo th-cam.com/video/o9qz7XSxZ90/w-d-xo.html
Where the guy was able to control the zoom with the gimbal dial but not me
Please help
Regards, rick
Thanks Riley!
Of course!
Is it same applied too sony a7iii ? Using usb c too usb c cable.. right now using Sony cable . Can u explain.. thanks .
I’m not sure. I don’t own an a7iii. Sorry.
@@RileyEndicott thanks for replying.. I changed too usb c now in a7iii ..
Few more questions.. I'm new too gimbal .. how many way too put gimbal in different different modes.. n ways too do.. ?
And there r three profile.. R1-2-3..
And other one.. PF..PTF..fpv.. where too change.. n how .. how it works..
Thanks for the info! :)
Is it also possible to control focus on the A7iii without the focus motor?
Your welcome! I don’t own the a7iii but there’s a compatibility list on DJI’s website you could check.
Yes, definitely possible but it also depends on your lens. I was able to do this with a7III with Tamron 17-28. Check here for compatibility : www.dji.com/cn/support/compatibility/ronin-sc/a7m3
Anyone had any issues with pulling focus ? I can't get the front dial wheel to be used as pull focus. I'm using a Sigma DG DN FE 24-70mm Zoom lens. It works with aperture iso etc. Just not Zoom or Focus.
Make sure it's not set to autofocus. The zoom wont work with that lens.
How I can control my PZ lense with the dual???!!!
Do you know how you can still record with proxies when using the Ronin RS2 with the usbc tot c cabel
Sorry I don’t. I’ve never recorded proxies in camera. I usually generate them in post afterwards.
thanks!
No problem!
It's a shame that DJI can't set this up to work both ways with a firmware update considering this is one of the most popular cameras on the planet. Also a weird side effect of controlling focus with the wheel: my focus pulling is very choppy for some reason on the 24mm f1.4 gm
Same here :/
Sony is the problem, the camera firmware is shit for third parties
So for me everything works but the focus wont. I followed every step in your Video. ISO works, shutter works etc but focus wont. I am using the Sony a7iii and a 20-70 gm
Can you show some footage to prove? The DJI site says these things aren’t available for the A7s3 so please show us it in action.
Can you control shutter speed? Or just iso and aperture?
I haven’t been able to on my RSC2. Not sure about the RS2.
@@RileyEndicott I am able to control shutter speed on my RSC2 if I set the front wheel to shutter speed. I am guessing firmware updates have fixed some of these issues.
@@2010SLP That’s good news! Thanks for the update! 😁
Does that mean the hdmi output is disabled with this control feature, so we can’t use raveneye? I thought it would be amazing to see the stream in the app and control the camera as well....
That’s correct. Unfortunately you have to choose.
@@RileyEndicott oh no... thank you! You saved me a lot of time to try that... why always there has to be such stupid things...
@riley I just got my rs2. Everything works. Control and Raveneye and iss all together . Don't know what you did wrong...It's simply perfect!
@@chrisr1241 I’m using the RSC2. That might be the difference 😂
@@RileyEndicott oh yes maybe.
Does this work with Sony a7 111
You would have to check DJI’s website for compatibility. I’m not sure.
@Daniel Mendez Yes, works. Need to check your lens though. www.dji.com/cn/support/compatibility/ronin-sc/a7m3
OK, SO for me im using the Sony A7siii with the Ronin S2 and Raven Eye and everything works by being able to record any sound??? FFS Why cant I just have it work???
I’m not understanding. You can’t record sound on the camera?
@@RileyEndicott it shows the sound coming in on the audio monitor, but when I play it back there’s nothing on it
@@BeingMrBrown when you import and play the file in your NLE is there sound? If the audio meters are displaying I would imagine that there is sound in the file. Maybe something with the raven eye is rerouting sound on playback to the other device? I don’t have the raven eye so I’m not 100% sure what’s happening.
@@RileyEndicott when I send the video to my phone there also no sound there too, I’ll have to take it off and bring it into final cut maybe
@@BeingMrBrown Sounds good. I would start there. Good luck!
How to use 3 functions
Um....whatever dial you have on the side of your RS2 you are using to scroll through your options is non existent on my RS2....
I’m using an RSC2. Maybe that’s the difference?
Thank you. Pulling focus without needing the focus motor. Amazing. But no dual recording. Fuck.
Not sure if this is intentional but the majority of the video is a black screen for me.
That’s strange. A good chunk of the video is a screen capture of the menu system (which is mostly black). But I can see the menus on all of my devices
@@RileyEndicott oh weird. It’s working fine now! Thanks for the content
@@basedviet Glad to hear it!
My A7SIII won’t connect with the iso, aperture or shutter speed from gimbal dial. Anyone else has that issue?
Make sure you’re using the right cable and following the steps in the video. There’s likely a setting that’s wrong 🙂
@@RileyEndicott i am, right cables, right set up in camera. Still not working
@@RileyEndicott maybe a setting in the camera actually... something is off
use usbc to usbc cable and go to settings and set the USB to be a pc remote
@@armando.visuals nothing works for me. I've tried everything. Raven eye works, and I had to change camera settings, but when it comes to controlling the exposure from the gimbal, can't get it to work, and if I set it up all the cables as instructed I get a MTP message.
Hero
Lol wait, so I have to choose between my Atomos and a good Manual Focus on the DJI? Great. I love Sony. But this...
Nah man fuck it. I'll not swap actually good looking footage and a monitor that actually shows me what's going on for just this.
in 2023 you can use both micro usb and usb-c cables and everything works.
To go through all the trouble to define which cable to use then NOT identify nearly where to attach it on the RS2 seems like a pretty glaring omission 😩
