Miss Bao is a sweet, shy but solid, sturdy & smart panda..looks like she has adjusted well to her new surroundings and gets along well with her new keeper.
I live within a short walk of the Nat. Zoo, USA, where Bao Bao was born & raised!! :) I just want to recommend to new keepers in China that they be sure to speak to her a lot! She was VERY "socialized" in the USA with several caring zookeepers who spoke to her affectionately & enthusiastically!!..She responds well to love & attention - even from people, including adoring children visiting every day..She was so loved & babied, so PLEASE be sure to speak to her with Big Smiles & expressions! :) They always encouraged her with their Voices-- that is what she grew up with--thanks!! :) p.s. She also loved apples & sweet potatoes.. Carrots, not as much, but tolerated... Thanks!-
I just think expressive voices & personal attention can be helpful for her!! I know it's a very different culture there, but she's not just an "eating machine"! ;) It must be weird for her not to get the encouragement that she's used to... :/
I'm surprised they're hand feeding her so often without pairing it with training and using the food as the reinforcer. I understand they're still developing a relationship and trust with her, which food helps, but I'd think they'd also want to immediately begin husbandry training with her.
Looks like they love you so much Bao, and your are so well taken care of..be a good girl..I am always watching..love you so much 💝
