I think one thing Homeworthy has illuminated for me, besides giving me a glimpse into beautiful homes of beautiful souls, is that I need to make more friends with people in their 50s and 60s. They’re so much more interesting than the people I’ve met who are my age. I think it’s the stories but also the authenticity that comes with age and feeling comfortable in your skin. Love it. Thank you!

Yes 🥰🥰🥰 I totally agree with you! I asked her to be my friend; surely she can teach a black girl 💖 how to grow beautiful flowers and plants, how to make that beautiful big bed reminds me of Goldilocks, I just want to go there n drink some porridge in her Chinese bowls n go upstairs n sleep 😴

I’m in that age bracket and honestly I think the boomer demographic IS interesting. This is the postwar generation, that saw huge cultural events. Moon landing, British Invasion with amazing music, Woodstock, Twiggy and 80’s Supermodels, and NewYork was in its heyday design wise. Times were good economically and people had money and brick and mortar stores were around to spend money. People went out and entertained. I wouldn’t want to be a young person these days, its a lot more challenging.

Her home is so elegant and grand, but her excitement to show us the details and tell us the stories behind each decision make it all seem approachable and charming. @@michaeldonaher2851 If I recall her passion is for plants and flowers. If Madam Bettie were on a deserted island it struck me that she would make herself completely at home amidst the lush foliage.

I like how her mother wanted her to take some of her belongings before she passed so she can see her enjoying it. The 18th century mirror Is absolutely gorgeous & I like how she decorated her kitchen with no upper cabinets & used her mothers armoire instead. I like how she said “just open two doors & everything is right there.” How clever! The library panels from her old church friends are so rich looking! The staircase from the architect does have a romantic feel! What a lovely lady, she sure does have a beautiful elegant style of decorating.

One of the most beautiful homes I have seen in some time. The use of buttercream yellow is welcome change from all the ultra sterile white we have been forced to endure in recent years. The French and Italian furnishings are used sparingly which gives the home a light airy feel. My favorite room is the bedroom draped in buttercream bed hangings and white embroidered linens.

This is an amazing story. Just looking at the details and thinking about all the craftsmen, artists and artisans that worked on that house is mind boggling. That home was built, it did not exist, and it was done with such care and love that it is hard to believe there are people with the capacity to do something like that these days. I truly admire their dedication to a project. And she was so open and interesting. May you enjoy your home as much as she does hers!

I've got both her books and would LOVE her to do more because the style of HER houses and the houses in the books are far more appealing than the new build concrete and glass monstrosities that seem to congest Los Angeles (and Australia, for that matter). Beautiful architectural detail, classic craftsmanship and historically accurate style done with intelligence and flair (without looking vulgar and McMansion) are my great loves and increasingly rare to find. When people buy old properties and absolutely molest the interior, making them look like Hungarian dental clinics or lobbies of Medispas in Cheshire, I could quite literally weep. Furthermore, discussing the grotesque danger of developers and designers constantly catering to the dubious aesthetic 'tastes' of stinking rich criminal foreigners and other new money brutes from certain parts of the world is a long and juicy conversation, best conducted over a long lunch and a bottle of wine-- not a TH-cam comment section ;). I'll take Hamish Bowles over Kim Kardashian any day. I'm off to peruse Ms Bearden Pardee's website now. Thanks Homeworthy fo another really good video.

@@pamd1861 I wonder if this is something you agree with also:
In Australia the giant McMansions bloat out to take up almost all of the available land so you're lucky if you get a view of a fence/next door neighbour sitting on their pooper out of every window and a strip of grass as an afterthought. Maybe a little sitting area and if you're lucky, a ghastly looking lap pool that looks like an out door sunken bath right up against the back fence. (The real estate literature will refer to this as a 'luxurious outdoor swimming pool': racehorses get better training facilities). These clinical looking, soulless little prison exercise yards incarcerating a motley assortment of potted topiary trees and a row of tragically municipal looking Agapanthus are utterly out of balance with the enormous suburban "family" house looming over them like a giant faux stucco-fronted prison guard bellowing 'ten more years boys, keep it clean' and the whole thing looks sad. You need grounds, room to breathe and even stand back and appreciate. Nothing works together with these aesthetically dopey and financially ambitious projects. They're going for the Beverly Hills-Holmby Hills vibe but missing the key element: GORGEOUS LUSH LANDSCAPED GROUNDS and beautiful frontage! These gorgeous architecturally driven family homes work best when they have landscaped grounds around them not stuffed on top of each other with nothing but glorified courtyards as land. I mean, you're in the leafy green burbs of Melbourne/Sydney so why make it look like a row of bloated fancy council houses in Wolverhampton?! Trees! Grass! Gardens! Lawn! Pool entertaining area! These congested, greedy architectural proposals make me laugh to think that so many developers out there (and buyers, clearly) enjoy big white Belle Epoque mansions stuffed into tiny plots of land. Where's the intelligently designed situation within the landscape?? Gross. I'd never pay 9 million bucks for a giant Haussman inspired house in Toorak if it means I'm able to reach out of every window and punch that crappy bloody wooden fence.

OMG, as an Aussie (Perth) I can soooo relate. I live in a mid-60s home on a massive block in an inner suburb (well with the urban sprawl now considered inner), I love my yard, and over the years an increasing amount of bird life does too as we have TREES and plants and flowers. Everytime a home is sold in this area, house is demolished and the blocks are subdivided and 2 homes are built that go right to the back fence, little courtyard and maybe a couple of metres at the front. Jammed together. Then you see the new developments, small blocks and 2 story McMansions, double garage (but while 2 cars can fit, they can’t open their car doors, so 1 side is their junk and the second car in the driveway!!!!). Soulless, devoid of life and personality, rows and rows of roof as far as the eye can see as there is nowhere for an actual tree in groud except for council plantings on the verge IF there is enough space. Aweful and hurts my heart to be honest. Love your humour btw.

If this beautiful property and garden didn't charm me then the hostess certainly did. I love a well thought out and planned house. Form and function both, that's rare. Thank you 🦚🦚🦚

Thank you for sharing your VERY beautiful home with us. It is VERY hard to get this style right but, Mrs. Pardee has done it. I love seeing homes where the owners are home proud. It doesn't have to be in a wealthy area. Being home proud can be in a one bedroom apartment. It doesn't take a lot of money either. Pick out what YOU like, NOT what you think others will be impressed by.
This channel is simply the best. Seeing people share their home is really wonderful. I just subscribed. ❤️

What a special woman and with a special house. That her mom gifted her items when she was alive made me cry. I just lost my elegant and sparky mother a month ago. She was quite a collector; 35 years ago when I set up my first house my mother wanted me to choose 3 things from her home. She laughed and said anything was fair game except the car! So I choose a library table, a bent wood mirror and her most used cookbook published in 1957. 💛 loved this video and the similarity to our mothers.
