I would definitely say, to do the perpendicular method, that jaded tresses uses when raking in products for wash and go’s! It is when you use both hands, to rake from the top and sides of the section, until they run through smoothly. This separates the curls more, and almost gives you the same look as shingling. Check her out!!!!
Your hair turned out super cute!! Of course the things we do are decision based!! What we prefer!! I honestly rake my hair bc it’s faster then I go back in when it’s dried and I separate the curls while I’m fluffing. Thanks for sharing

I’ve never used the raking method, but I do shingle...however I shingle in larger pieces/sections (my latest wash and go video shows my process)... then once it dries...I separate if I want...most of the time I don’t separate so it can last a week. I love that you’re showing different techniques!!! You’ve mastered them, that and twist outs and braid outs for sure!!! And your separation game is on 10 for twist and braid outs!!!

I love your results! I have type 4a -4b hair and it’s finer in the front. I do the rake and shake method where when I get to the ends while raking, I shake the section with an up and down motion to help separate the clumps. This works great for the back of my hair, but I have to shingle the front sections in order for my hair to look consistent throughout.

I don’t like the taking method. I tried without cheating and my hair was so chunky in the end i separated it after it dried. I feel like raking only works best for people that has naturally shingled curls
Ive found when raking i put the leave in/cream on all of my sections then go back and worth the gel through... idk why bc when i shingle i dont do that...
I would also suggest maybe using the rake and shake method to help better separate your curls. This same thing happens to me when I just rake. Results looked good tho!
Cute! I have APL hair and it takes me about 15 minutes to rake. I separate the bigger chunks after it’s dried. I use lighter products (Uncle Funky’s curly magic and a mousse) so the separation is minimal.

Coloring your hair, especially very light does loosen it a bit. It’s nothing bad or too noticeable but it will. As far as damage. Stay away from heat if u plan to color it, and stay on top of moisturizing, deep conditioning and you may need a protein treatment every once in a while

I also dont get super clumped curls when i use the mane choice gelato or curl maker so i agree the thicker gels clump wayyyy more.

I think 45 minutes is a pretty good time. I always do the raking method and it takes me about 30 minutes and my hair is shorter than yours
I always felt that if you need to shingle your entire head, you’re not using the right products because nahh 🙄.
