ScanTo3D is an add-on included in SOLIDWORKS Professional or Premium, it would not be an option with SOLIDWORKS Standard edition. www.mlc-cad.com/solidworks/3d-cad/packages/ Many years ago it was only included in Premium, but I don't recall the exact year it dropped down to Pro.
Hello, thank you for this seires. I just had a question about the actual surface. Once I have used the surface wizard (automatic), it gives me blue lines of the surface and a background shadow. How can I fix this?
By default, SOLIDWORKS makes the edges of open surfaces blue, so it is likely that your surface is still open. This is OK, and it is the first step towards building solid geometry using surfacing, but you may still have work to do to finish the design. Also, the shadow might simply be a rendering setting, go to View > Display > Shadows in Shaded Mode and see if turning that off looks better for you. To answer your question fully might require seeing the file you are working on, I would recommend reaching out to your value-added reseller for support on this file.
MLC CAD Systems Hello. Thank you very much for your help. You’re right, it was just the shaders. I fixed the STL file gaps on mesh mixer and followed your tutorial and updated my mesh which seems to have created a solid body now.
Hi, this is the best ever tutorial available on SCAN TO 3D . I have a small question. when I import my .STL file as a mesh, there is an error on the feature tree stating that 'THE MESH HAS TOPOLOGICAL ERRORS' . WHAT DOES THAT MEAN AND HOW COULD I FIX THAT ?
I'm glad you are enjoying the tutorial, there is a full 11-part series available, full playlist is here: th-cam.com/video/55yR3DfrB4M/w-d-xo.html A topological error likely means that the mesh geometry in this file is faulty, self-intersecting or open. The mesh prep wizard might be able to help you to identify these areas and remove them manually or clean them up to remove the issue. Also, depending on the source of this mesh file, there may be changes that can be performed in the software that generated it that would alleviate the issue. The bottom line is: there is something broken in your mesh in this file, and you will need to find it and get rid of it or repair it.
When you open the original file, make sure you open it as a Mesh. In the Files of type drop-down list, Mesh Files is an option that is available only when ScanTo3D is available. Re-open the file as a mesh and it should become available.
I'm using 2015 and I don't have the add ons you spoke of as an option. Are you familiar with what would be needed for '15?
