Brian D'arcy James is my favorite Broadway star. I had the pleasure of meeting him and he showed me the backstage of the show he was starring in, Something Rotten
+Amanda Seymour That's amazing :) He has inspired me to continue acting. I've done a production of Shrek the Musical and got the role of Shrek. I hope to see him again someday.
TRUE in my school the school performance I was papa ogre and the mama ogre was super nervous so she barely sang and the audience only ever heard me it was sad
Clay Miller in my performance at a tiny theatre mama and papa ogre don’t have great voices, don’t know the words or the tune, and sing quietly. Opening night is next week tho
Man, so many memories. This was the first ever show I saw on Broadway, and I saw the OBC. It was so much fun, I saw it one more time on Bway and then the original tour!! Great show. Deserved so much more respect and longevity than it got. So glad it has a great following.
they should have used most of what was in the out of town tryout, and not changed so much, it would have won more tonys and would have run longer. this just needed some edits not drastic redoing in my opinion. i loved this song, and the way they did the dragons keep song and scene.
right? I was just looking for the song I was used to hearing from the taping but was so pleasantly surprised by that, I think it's the best part of the song and I can't imagine why they cut it, it's so much better than the more "comedic" route of just having someone scream and run away which they do another 3-4 times through the show, would have really benefited from harping on the more emotional side the same way they did with fionas song to better match "I think I got you beat"
We were ROBBED, of that actually not rushed version of the musical! Ironically, elements could have been used, but still, make it the COMPLETE version! It certainly is intriguing, I will say…
It could be possible that the young actor who played Shrek entered the outhouse and then disappeared through a trap door in the floor. Meanwhile, the adult actor who is Brian as Shrek could be hidden underneath the stage or behind the set, waiting to be lifted or to step out as if he just came from the same outhouse. Broadway stages are are often incredibly fast and can be done out of sight of the audience within seconds, lifts, and rotating sets to make quick transitions like this seamless.🤓
While your camera skill is like trying to watch a TV program while riding a roller coaster and wearing a ski mask, I applaud what you managed to record. I like how in this video I can see the multiple turntables used on stage. In the DVD version -- the entirety of which was uploaded and recently pulled by Dreamworks screaming "Copyright!!!" -- in the DVD version filmed on Broadway in New York City, they are less evident due to the stage being slightly larger and the lighting darker throughout the production. I like how I can see them here, which gives me a better idea on how the technical side of things was done.
noyone in universe made him scottish.mike myers made shrek scottish because he told the filmmakers he wanted to do the accent as a homage to his mom who used to read him the william steig book to him allot
Keep going: Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek, who lived with his parents in a bog by a tree. It was a pretty nasty place, but he was happy because ogres like nasty.
Ingrid Ericson trying to get my director to do it for next year's musical, it's a little expensive tho. doing annie right now, i'm Warbucks, which i completely suck at lol i cannot act like him, they casted me because of my voice.
Jaylan Glover You know what ELSE everybody likes? Parfaits! Have you ever met a person, you say, "Let's get some parfait," they say, "Hell no, I don't like no parfait."? Parfaits are delicious!
I JUST FINISHED MY SCHOOL PREFORMANCE I LOVED IT I WAS THE CAPTAIN OF THE GAURDS I CANT STOP LISTWNING TI THESE SONFS, I LOVE THEM SO MUCHHHHHHHH😭😭❤❤❤💕❤😭💕😭❤😭💕❤❤💕💕
I get chills every time he sings "Cause being likes is grossly overrated" its so lit im crying
Lightforyourfaces I THOUGHT THAT WAS ONLY ME
Marley Gabrielle same!!
i do with every stand out from the crowd message in this show
I'm absolutely using "it's so lit I'm crying" in the future
Brian D'arcy James is my favorite Broadway star. I had the pleasure of meeting him and he showed me the backstage of the show he was starring in, Something Rotten
Lucky! My voice and acting teachers are friends with him.
+Amanda Seymour That's amazing :) He has inspired me to continue acting. I've done a production of Shrek the Musical and got the role of Shrek. I hope to see him again someday.
Amanda Seymour TG hello
ACCORDING TO THE BOOK, Shrek's parents kicked him the hell out.
Wh--YES there's a BOOK!! How does anyone not know that? It's by William Steig!
Haven its a good book
That was a goood book
True because I have seen it

Still the best performance of this scene. The accent is superb, and the singing is phenomenal.
This is one of the Broadway shows
Sadar Hond no it’s not it’s pre Broadway
Even though we're a professional theatre company doing this production, mama and papa ogre are literally puppets because our director loves avenue q😂
Wait what?!
SPILL THE TEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
God bless Bryan for going through two hours of makeup for this show. It looks amazing.
The mom's voice is incredible.
Her "Goodbye"😍
I just love how they sing out... Unlike my school performance xD
I'm Mama ogre... It's going to be a disaster
My school has this song for our performance, guess what? Voices on microphone are beautiful, just fire.

I love the vines they put on the pit! And the extras they added on to it! Truly great performance all around!!
4:27 is it just me or does this part sound SO GOOD!!!!
3:18-4:57 WHY DIDN'T THIS MAKE IT TO THE TOUR VERSION OMG
Joe Grisanzio I know right, but what is the song.
Joe Grisanzio Ikr, pretty upset when I saw it in my country... Though it was still really good
this was probably based on the 2008 demo of the song
My heart broke when he popped the balloon in front of shrek
is this a call to wicked in the opening?
I love this opening so much more than the final version
What's the final opening?
they cut the entire scenes with the townspeople singing and cut straight to shrek singing :/
3:25 THEY SHOULD'VE KEPT THAT PART
they should have used most of what was in the out of town tryout, and not changed so much, it would have won more tonys and would have run longer. this just needed some edits not drastic redoing in my opinion. i loved this song, and the way they did the dragons keep song and scene.
I love Shrek thank you guys to posting this on TH-cam
I'm so upset that they didn't play Smashmouth,I know it's trademarked or whatever but ;-;
Uhm they sang I'm a Believer in the end duh?
It wouldn’t be appropriate to sing because this is the opening of a Broadway show and it’s not best to sing another person’s song in this setting.
thottie w/ a body ya when he popped out I was really expecting that and don’t tell me they can get believer a monkeys song but can’t get smash mouth
They sing it at the end
@@chickennugget9254 I think he was talking about All Star.
Fun Fact: Brian d'Arcy James turned down playing Dan in Next to Normal to play Shrek.
I think the makeup job they did on Brian was incredible. I had the honor of meeting him in his run in Something Rotten.
Well any normal human being would pick Shrek over anything
He made the right choice. No choice is better than Shrek
@@ChurchoftheLatterDayShrek of course! Shrek is love. Shrek is life.
You’re absolutely right. He was an amazing Dan when he did play him though. ☺️
I'm doing this show in October and was cast as Shrek. I am excited beyond belief. What a great show!
The actor who plays Shrek in the musical is absolutely phenomenal.
5:33
[Shrek Whistling]
[Doorknob Rattling]
[Shrek Whistling, Stops]
[Doorknob Rattling]
Shrek: Oh, come on! Not again!
This is funny and feels nostalgic 😂💙
4:12-4:29 love this part
4:42 chills
My friend and I are going to see this musical next month for the pure reason of having "Shrek is love" banter
Whenever I look it up I see other kinds of these videos and they never do as good as this one
But I saw the movie
This is from Broadway, so it's probably the best production out there
I wish they kept 3:25 it sounds so amazing!!
right? Shrek is love, Shrek is life
Shrek is coming for you to cam on
We were ROBBED, of that actually not rushed version of the musical!

It certainly is intriguing, I will say…
Im doing this production in the winter and im auditioning for Shrek, I love this musical so much!

Dude...i've been conditioned to instantly play "All Stars" in my head when i see the outhouse...wtf XD
Uploaded on my birthday! Great performance! I live this song!
This is one of my favorite songs in the show.
4:55 poor shrek ;(
5:16 How did they do that?
It could be possible that the young actor who played Shrek entered the outhouse and then disappeared through a trap door in the floor. How did I get here, it's really late at night...
Oh wait. The memes were calling me...
May the memes be ever in your favor.

Maxxy Cat I
They did SOOOOOOOOOO good with Shreks design
the best musical i have ever seen :) have it seen in londen (a person from holland)
Am I the only one questioning where the hell shrek got his accent from? From what we see, he doesn't even meet anyone scottish?
noyone in universe made him scottish.mike myers made shrek scottish because he told the filmmakers he wanted to do the accent as a homage to his mom who used to read him the william steig book to him allot
One my favourite musical openings next to Wicked
3:30 that really reminded me of tuck everlasting

I’m trying out for shrek at my community theatre. Wish me luck!

I FREAKEN love this song!
Saw this last night it was amazing !!
Keep going: Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek, who lived with his parents in a bog by a tree. It was a pretty nasty
place, but he was happy because ogres like nasty.
On his birthday the little ogre's parents sat him down to talk just like all ogre parents had for hundreds of years before
Listen son you’re growing up so quickly
Growing up bigger by the day
Although we want you here
The rules are very clear
Thxx for this vid helped me a lot when rehearsing for shrek
My highschool is doing this as our winter production and this song is so far my favorite. Also I'm the bass player in the pit if anyone cares :P
I wish the production of shrek I did that just ended yesterday had this version the version I did of a big bright beautiful world was so cheesie

Best musical ever
shrek is love,shrek is life
Wicked Male Version????
+Berns Brijuega Hm maybe, but Elphaba was beautiful, whereas poor Shrek really isn't.
Cityman has shrek is potentially the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen so ur opinion is irrelevant
Cityman wdym? Shrek is sexy as hell
5:40 some BODY once to- oops! wrong one!
His voice is amazing
I love how we’re the only ones who have done shreck in the over 60 yrs of our school -_-
I love this song they changed everytime the story but this song still awesome.
Does that mean Shrek has to throw his triplets out too when they turn 7?
I’m sure Fiona would stop that tradition
Who else likes shrek's the movie?
This version of the song did kind of come back in the MTI licensing version of the show
Poor shrek , ppl always looks by him an ugly ogre but his attitude were so good :( poor shrek!
I am doing the jr. version of this play, and I am young Fiona.
Sa W break a leg!
Me too! I'm the sugarplum fairy :P
Sa W I am the dragon in my play
I'm teen fiona in my schools jr version
Honestly the musical was a great origin story, it's like Shrek 1 directors cut with all this backstory that wasn't in the movie
Toilet:clogs
Shrek:Aw, come on! Not again!
You have no idea how hard this made me laugh
I want to see this version of Shrek the musical..the only one I have seen is the one in Netflix.
Anthony Velasco I know I’m 2 years late but here’s the full version of this version: th-cam.com/video/WETYAQMnSQw/w-d-xo.html
good luck to you both , i'm playing the role in about three weeks.
IDK why, but I really like 4:29-4:55.
