Beautiful song, beautiful message, beautiful group of guys to sing this song ...OH, what a message....I could listen to this song ALL day long and and still "praise GOD" for reaching down for me.. Thanks to ""TIM, MIKE, IVAN, and especially BRIAN " ..LUV U "GOLD CITY "...SR
I saw them in person several times many years ago and their music is such a blessing. I converted to Catholicism, but my heart is still in love with Southern Gospel Music!!
Tim Riley and Brian Free are the best i wish that more singers today could actually sing from the heart like these guys did but i guess it takes true believe in the lord to do that and you can see these guys did have that
Thank you, Father God, for reaching way down for me, on August 19, 1990, Having been raised in Church, I knew right from wrong, but as some of us do, I walked away from Him. He has blessed my life as only He can, with a soul mate whom He made just for me, and the most beautiful kids and grandbabies on earth. A million years couldn't be enough for me to praise and worship Him, not just for what He has done for me, but because of who He is.
Man, He had to reach WAY down for me. Dad just looked at me in church, "How about it son?" I stared at him at him for a few seconds; then a prodical son stepped into an aisle, and knelt at an old fashioned altar in front of the whole church. Did I care? No way, I was coming back to Jesus. Maybe that is why I prefer a sinner to come down to the altar.
Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord , and whose hope the Lord is. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. Jeremiah 17:7, 9-10 KJV He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay. He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. Psalms 18:16-19 KJV Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:6-8 KJV This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. These things I command you, that ye love one another. If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me. John 15:12-14, 17-21 KJV vs1 Once my soul was astray from the heavenly way I was wretched and as blind as could be Then the Savior above looked down with peace and love When he reached down his hand for me Chorus When the Savior reached down for me He had to reach way down for me I was lost and bound without God or his Son When he reached down his hand for me vs2. Now my heart does rejoice since I made Him my choice From the tempest to Him I did flee there he holds his arm safe secure from all harm When he reached down his hand for me Chorus When the Savior reached down for me for He had to reach way down for me I was lost and bound without God or his Son When he reached down his hand for me.
Have to say when these guys split it was a bad day for gospel music. Saw them many times in concert back in the day and they touched my soul each and every time.
Once my soul was astray from the heavenly way I was wretched and blind as could be But my Savior in love gave me peace from above When he reached down his hand for me When the Savior reached down for me When he reached way down for me I was lost and undone without God or his Son When he reached down his hand for me How my heart does rejoice when I hear his sweet voice In the tempest to him I can cling There to lean on his arm safe secure from all harm When he reached down his hand for me
I know it says this is marlene ferris on here, but this is her husband STU FERRIS I AM A music lover GOD'S MUSIC THAT IS., God has reached for me many times. I just discovered again today I am A LOT BETTER OFF THAN MANY. PRAISE THE LAMB OF GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marlene Ferris Stu , I am looking at this and it says that it was posted three years ago I used to do that. It used to come up saying Denise Smith and I would say that I am peanut Denise's husband. But I hope you are still hanging in there my brother. I will see you on the streets of gold!
Brian Free as a young countertenor at his best. Very rich sound only young men can really pull off. He still has a fine clear tenor voice decades later.
Screeching helium balloon. No disrespect and I couldn’t do any better but I’m not singing with GC. Put a female in the group and stop pretending that this is good ... you ain’t heard good singing if you think this guy can sing
Man.....He had to reach way down there to get me. I don't know why He would love me that much. My daddy used to sing this one..... until I got saved I didn't have a clue what daddy was talking about.
When Brian left it lost something...BUT, I've seen them 3 times w/Jay & he's great. This song hooked me. Yes, I first knew "Midnight Cry" but, this made me a Brian Free fan.
Brian sings with Brian Free & Assurance, Ivan is a soloist, Mike LeFevre has his own quartet, Tim is still singing bass with Gold City (has retired at least once). This was the first outstanding lineup of Gold City. The second one had Jay Parrack, Jonathan Wilburn, Mark Trammell, Tim Riley. Danny Funderburk is now a soloist too, has been on a DVD called Remember the Music with other Cathedral members doing a tribute to Glen Payne & George Younce.
does anybody know why mike lefevre left this group? i saw another video on youtube called pillars of faith where mike introduced the group gold city and said he sing with them for seven years. good stuff!!
Was it normal for Tim to give Brian the second verse? He didn't on the studio recording. I wonder if it were to save his voice, for variety or to throw Brian a bone. :)
I have ALL of Gold City's albums... every single one. I 'have' given them a chance. I just don't think they are as good as they were late '80's and early '90's....

Brian free and Tim Riley, probably two of the best singers in the southern gospel world
Gold City ...if this song doesn't do something for you, then you need GOD in a mighty way !! SR
Such a "great group" with a beautiful singing harmony...LUV these guys!!❤️ SR
The golden age of Gold City and Southern Gospel
I saw them in person several times many years ago and their music is such a blessing. I converted to Catholicism, but my heart is still in love with Southern Gospel Music!!
Brian Free is the GOAT when it comes to singing tenor...
I don't understand. I'm used to hear classical Tenor. I can't understand how you like this Tenor singing. Please explain
Oh! If this song doesn't make you repent and love Jesus, than ask someone to pray for you...Beautiful!
So many believers fail to realize that God does not reach down His hand for everyone, I am so glad He reached down for me.
I thank Jesus for reaching down for me, this song has been a blessing for me for years🇺🇸🎶
What the 80's ruined in style, it made up for in southern gospel. Thanks for posting!
Thank God he reached down for me !!!
Ivan Parker is also one of the greatest voices I have ever heard.
Tim Riley and Brian Free are the best i wish that more singers today could actually sing from the heart like these guys did but i guess it takes true believe in the lord to do that and you can see these guys did have that
There will never be another Gold City like this version. By far the best.

I love this group, I remember riding with my mom and her playing their tapes in her car. All these songs take me back to my childhood..awesome group

THANK you, King Jesus for reaching WAY DOWN for me!
Brian said , he had not totally given his heart to the lord , for a short time, with gold city ❤
my late daddy used to sing this song when i was a kid. it reminds me of him
You gotta love the brillo mullet......
Tim Riley....smooth as silk...the best all-around bass ever.
Brian has the most beautiful tenor voice. Just different & the blend with the other's just may never be again.
Best bass singer ever.
EVER!!!💗
There's not another Southern gospel recording that tops this one.
If this song doesn't touch your heart, then something is wrong. GC is one of the best quartets to ever set foot on a stage.
Gina H this one and Midnight Cry have always been 2 of my favorites!!
I used to drive 100 miles to hear them, here in SW Florida !
Have to say when these guys split it was a bad day for gospel music. Saw them many times in concert back in the day and they touched my soul each and every time.
are you kidding Gold City is the biggest pro. gospel group i think there ever will be. one of my favs.
600k views? ..wish it was more like 8 billion..dont try to do this life without him..i tried..i went crawling back to him
Once my soul was astray from the heavenly way
I was wretched and blind as could be
But my Savior in love gave me peace from above
When he reached down his hand for me
When the Savior reached down for me
When he reached way down for me
I was lost and undone without God or his Son

How my heart does rejoice when I hear his sweet voice
In the tempest to him I can cling
There to lean on his arm safe secure from all harm

a true tenor singer, just effortless high notes with no strain. what a pleasure to hear. and it's gospel. nothing better !
I love this song, but I especially love the way Gold City sing this song.
I can't get enough of Brian Free
I'm just loving the mullets 😂!
What a lineup that was!
How can you not love this song...:-D
Hello.. Melissa Where're you watching from
God gifted Tim Riley with an awesome bass voice; Praise God. This is a great song. Let it minister to your spirit.
yes the quartet is great !
Love this song, especially when it's sung so well!
during the 80's and early 90's Gold City was singing news #1 gospel group for 7 years in a row
Excellent song. I would like to see it sung more.
Awesome tenor from Brian Free
This is the Gold City that I remember,....flawless.
Love hearing Brian Free sing. Heck I love hearing Gold City at that time
Great song, I heard a group called the Travlers
from South Carolina sing the same song at a concert here in Ontario Canada.
We don't allow him into our lives. Christ seeks and saves the lost!
Tim and Brian was the best and Brian still sounds great haven't heard much out of Tim
God truly blessed these guys
I know it says this is marlene ferris on here, but this is her husband STU FERRIS I AM A music lover GOD'S MUSIC THAT IS., God has reached for me many times. I just discovered again today I am A LOT BETTER OFF THAN MANY. PRAISE THE LAMB OF GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marlene Ferris you're not alone
Brian Free as a young countertenor at his best. Very rich sound only young men can really pull off. He still has a fine clear tenor voice decades later.
JR Snyder Jr awesome
Have you heard his latest? Still amazing at almost 60 I think.
Screeching helium balloon. No disrespect and I couldn’t do any better but I’m not singing with GC. Put a female in the group and stop pretending that this is good ... you ain’t heard good singing if you think this guy can sing
First, Brian is not a countertenor. Second, Brian can sing and isn't "screeching. " Third, Tim Riley is amazing.
Brian Free has such a good pure smooth voice. Love it
Man.....He had to reach way down there to get me. I don't know why He would love me that much. My daddy used to sing this one..... until I got saved I didn't have a clue what daddy was talking about.

the absolute best Gold City lineup!
When Brian left it lost something...BUT, I've seen them 3 times w/Jay & he's great. This song hooked me. Yes, I first knew "Midnight Cry" but, this made me a Brian Free fan.
Brian Free sounds SOO much like Little Steve Sanders from back in the '60's when he was just a teenager !
Ich liebe es❤
Brian sings with Brian Free & Assurance, Ivan is a soloist, Mike LeFevre has his own quartet, Tim is still singing bass with Gold City (has retired at least once).

That's because they were the best! :)
@jesusthroughmary that statement cracked me up..LOL..HA!!
Wow, I really didn't recognize Tim at all, this is filmed a long time ago, right?
yep
Who is this little guy, with? Wonderful! ♥️♥️♥️
Wow... has Brian Free even reached puberty here? I wonder what year this was... 😳
1987 it says.
Is this off of a Video, or a Tv show or something? Can you buy it?? Brian Free Is Awesome !!!!!!
Was it normal for Tim to give Brian the second verse? He didn't on the studio recording. I wonder if it were to save his voice, for variety or to throw Brian a bone. :)
Is that Brian Free, ????
I have ALL of Gold City's albums... every single one. I 'have' given them a chance. I just don't think they are as good as they were late '80's and early '90's....

Brian Free can sing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@hawver7765 who does Danny Funderburk sing with I dnt believe I have heard him but if he is as good as Brian Free I need to go listen lol
Hello.. Miranda Where're you watching from?
Dean, you are awsome with your posts!! How is Will?
Next time I see Brian free I'm going to remind him of the mullet
@WWERocks74 yes it is
Good question. Don't think it was to save his voice, Tim's durability was probably his strong suit.
So like Brian ROCKS...yea...
@Sing4More Haha, Ivan STILL has a mullet LOL
Brian Free.
Hello.. Mary Where're you watching from?
@adkinsda they call him preciuse lol
@bigmrclean I was about to say, "Who's the ugly chick in the suit?" Unreal.
My family and i sing this song. I posted it on here come listen to our version!!
lawl brian has a mullet
Steve Lacey...
And yes... Steve was as good as Mike... it's when Brian and Ivan left that the group went downhill.
@fightfan73
Brain Free
Most women can't get that high!
One of the greatest songs ever but the screeching helium balloon ruined it. Find a female soprano lead because he ain’t got the torque for this!
Need a haircut.
