Let me tell y’all something, this girl is living her best life, not because she’s achieving all of her goals, but because she’s one of those VERY FEW people in this world that are learning from experience, learning as they are growing. Seriously you are one of the best people in this platform, hands down.

This culture of striving high destroyed my mental health at your age. I struggled at university, had exam anxiety and mental breakdowns and panic attacks literally in the first week of the new semester. Now at 24 and currently in my masters I treasure the process way more than the grade. I appreciate learning something new everyday and I know exactly that there are only so many hours I want to spent on studying during a day since there are other things in life such as sports, food and friends. Turns out my grades improved with this approach not to even mention my mental health. Such a good and important video and so glad you do have this realization this early in your life.

Same here. I struggled very badly and had anxiety disorder. Slowly I had started to feel better and study well. I even passed with very good grades. And now I'm about to give a competitive exam and everything is crashing down. Study stress became so much like everyone around just talked about study study and study . Teachers will be like you're going to fail if you don't study 12 hrs a day or sleep more than 7/8 hrs. Now I'm dealing with very bad depression. It's hard to even get out of bed and just thought of studying makes it worse. I don't know what went wrong. I was very studious and bright kid since I know myself. Most of us can't help but live as though we've got two lives to live, one is the mockup, the other the finished version, and then there are all those versions in between. But there's only one, and before you know it, your heart is worn out, and, as for your body, there comes a point when no one looks at it, much less wants to come near it."

I immediately interpreted “Hustle Culture” as less about productivity, and more about working an angle, a path to ‘get’ quicker, with the least amount of effort possible. I guess a derivative of Scamming. Shortcutting.
In the Van Life community, which I will soon be a part of, I hear “jugging”. These two “principles” (Hustling & Jugging) I saw as pieces of the same cloth.

Because I am finally at a point where I am working towards my future like.. maybe 45% of the time. And I am enjoying the results and the outputs of the present. This video reminded me of the importance of that, so that I keep taking care of myself, regardless of present or future!

I had an interview as a graduate five years ago in a big marketing agency, I had to stand up and introduce myself in front of 50 people and there where rounds of the process like x-factor. One of the interviewers asked me after I'd introduced myself If I was motivated by making money. I said no, I wasn't and I didn't get the job (surprise). I'm motivated by doing acts of service and human interaction. Long story short I've got one year left of my midwifery degree and caring for people in the NHS is where I belong, I'll never earn big bucks and I have two degrees to slowly pay back to SFE. But the happiness and casual magic I see every day will always will my pockets and my heart more than anything else.

I THINK THIS ALL THE TIME!!! I never knew what to call the feeling of having to work ALL THE TIME, where things like yoga, relaxation, naps, reading for pleasure, etc are a waste. It’s hustle culture and it can be so toxic. True happiness will never be achieved by material success 😭 (my thoughts as a religious person). Regardless of religion, though, incorporating harmless activities that are not directly correlated to monetary success is refreshing. Today I learned how to ride a skateboard, for example. Why? Because.. yes. I have stuff to do, but I pushed it aside so I could enjoy this activity that I’ve been looking forward to for much time now. This message is super long and kind of all over the place, but I hope the main idea has come through lol. Loveeeeee you Jade - you’ve done wonders for my mental health and personal enrichment. :)

Now, thanks to your videos, i'm finding the casual magic in my days and trying to navigate school and exams with goals but also with intentions to build those important friendships and find meaning outside grades. Thankyou so much!!!

Totally agree with what you said about how we should consciously spend time apart from the hustle culture. But I feel that’s really hard sometimes because I just know that when I’m spending that time not hustling, other people are working. If I’m not keeping up with them, then how am I going to compete with all those other people in the future so that I can support myself financially.

I just delivered an essay yesterday about this exact same issue! I´ve been trying to not feel guilty about doing "not productive" things while at uni but it's so hard..... I've also been seing casual magic in sunsets, walks, nice food, it really makes you smile when you start to notice the little things...
    Loved this! MORE PLEASEEEE :)

Loved this video. Recently studying neuroscience for my course, and when it comes to intelligence and success the only evidence they can base mental cognition and process off is output. Which is crazy - the extent of our knowledge about mental processes is simply measured by output. When i related this back to real life, it means that our success is only measured by what we can say we've done and not how felt or what we did to get there. Life is more than a CV of your achievements and you completely reinforced and opened my mind to further ideas to think about. Hope Berlin is great!

There is such an emphasis on working toward something of "value" in the capitalist culture and historically value is derived from laborious work. However, there is such value in working intentionally on self-progress.

I can't use words to describe how much I love your content, I'd say it's the kind of magic I'm always looking for, the kind of magic that makes everything else worth it, the little piece that link the other pieces together, so if I had to use words, I'd rather just say thank you, cuz magic like you, like your videos, it's doubtlessly undescriptable. Xoxo ❤️

This video is amazing, I really needed to hear everything you said. Being anxious, maybe hustle culture has a even bigger impact on me, but it is something that I felt very badly about for years... No time off because I didn't/don't allow myself to have it, but it's a thing that I really need to do for my general and mental health. So thank you a lot for stressing the importance of this in your video♥️

How coincidental. The past week my mind continuously tortured itself, I couldn't stay put chilling; I couldn't just give myself a few hours of free time. Work, work, work. That's it, that's all that was put to me all week.
It's a relief to know that others are with me.

I’ve started to think about this more too like why is it that during school/ uni I can’t wait for holidays and then during holidays I eventually get bored and can’t wait to be busy again? I’m always wishing for something then when I get it I wish for something else without being grateful for it. Now I try to make a conscious effort to enjoy everyday and feel every little feeling and live every moment. I really enjoy the little things like a good meal, or an upload from Jade on TH-cam and I enjoy the bigger moments too. It’s made me so much happier 😌

    Hi there, Jade!
I just wanted to let you know that you have inspired me to do so many things! I never thought I would be going on an interrail trip around Europe alone. And seeing your experience inspired me to apply for DiscoverEU myself. I thought: "Hey, this would be cool, I will try, although I will most likely not get the pass". But I did! And I had so much fun and I've learnt so much also. I also took the courage and decided to have a gap year which has ended not so long ago and I do not regret it at all. It was the best decision I've made!
And yes, we often forget to slow down and appreciate the ordinary. I was having some bad days recently and today I woke up earlier than usual, when the Sun was still not rising, did a yoga practise, slowly ate my breakfast and went off to university feeling the cool, refreshing air of the morning. And somehow, I felt really happy. Just by doing these simple things and slowing down.
Again, thank you for everything you do, Jade! ❤

I didn't know...you could be open like that, wasn't that illegal or something!!! I'm really spooked, Happy October, she is speaking and my ears are quaking. Never heard this before...wanna hear more of this "slowness".
I'm not highly productive but I feel guilty, almost shame, everytime I fail. And plans are just not my cup of tea, I make them and then they disappear in some other guilt. A Rollercoaster of guilty shame, depression and failures(I only count these) mental health can go out the window or to a therapist when it should be an obvious priority. Beautiful lives depend on it.
Love you for shining light on so much that was only needed. Thank You. It makes sense and I feel it should be a daily mantra. Such a nice video. You conveyed it for me...enough to spook me with the reality check.
    WE HEAR YOU AND...AGREED!!

Thankyou for this video that outlines a vey possible way to outline and to live in practical ways from our heart and soul aswell as brain. Fundamental, and something to be reminded of several times each day, a reminder that lives in our fulness of presence in a yoga stretch, in a bath or shower, in a teabreak. Some truths are beautiful to see and hear.

I think about these things all the time! I'm currently doing a boring office job I hate so much, it's so dull and unmeaningful to me, but I'm just doing it to save some money so I can travel etc. I was sat at my desk the other day and I thought 'people who have jobs they don't enjoy, genuinely miss their whole lives'. Like when I'm at work, I just watch the WHOLE day go by and then it's basically over. I don't know, I just have a lot of thoughts on my mind haha

Hi Jade, you keep inspiring and empowering me! I so much can relate to what you say. Being a workaholic, I feel constant guilt for not being productive, even when I don't have much to do. I cannot describe it, it's just present and difficult to evade. Currently I'm from Poland applying to UK universities and especially right now I put myself under tremendous pressure. I dream to achieve high but at the same time I feel it's a vicious circle. Maybe work lets me avoid confronting my feelings.

I was thinking about this as well, especially after GCSEs have been cancelled and the year had been cut short, I am treasuring the moment.
