Pierre Poilievre calls on NDP leader to force fall election

  • The NDP entered a supply and confidence deal with the Liberals in 2022. The party agreed to keep Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government in power until 2025 in exchange for movement on priorities like dental and pharmacare.
Poilievre wrote to Singh to call on him to vote no confidence in the government when the House returns next month. Poilievre says the NDP doesn't have a mandate to keep Trudeau in power for another year.

I worked Corrections for 35 years. Young Offender Branch. I worked under 3 legislations and by far the most effective was the Young Offenders Act ( YOA). Kids did not get away with murder. They did 6 -18 months in secure custody for violent or repeat crimes. Our facility in Edmonton offered treatment , school , elders and any type of support a struggling youth may need to succeed. They came out better people than when they went in. Yup.
Then a new government came in. Looked at the numbers of kids in custody and the cost. Then they decided to implement the Youth Criminal Justice Act under the guise of kids need to be with family and in the community with the proper supports. When really they wanted to save money in incarceration costs. Judges can no longer hold them or sentence them because the Act doesn’t allow it. Police turn a blind eye because they arrest these kids and they are out the next day. So why bother. Police get called into court in their days off to testify but the kid gets released anyway. So police are frustrated. We went from 268 kids in custody in Edmonton alone , to today where they sit at 8-14 young offenders. Oh we can’t call them “offenders”. We call them “youth or young people “ under this current legislation we have given these kids a licence to commit violent crimes , home invasions , weapons , sexual assaults you name it. They do a lot of the dirty work for the adults because they won’t be jailed for any length of time. So bring back a youth act that has some teeth. These kids come in so methed out that they never get a chance to straighten out because they are released. Catch and release. All because no one wants to pay the cost of building new jails and mental health facilities to house these dangerous criminals. Kids can be way more dangerous than adults. The YCJA is a garbage act. Get rid of it !

It's their goal to have you work all your life then lose your house because you can't afford the crazy increases in municipal tax.

      I hear your point.
P.P. did mention in the Q.& A. that the Liberal government embarked on a disastrous montatary policy ( Q. E.) by printing billions of dollars.
This decreases the value of the dollar relative to the goods and services they're after. It also translates to a decrease in the relative value of the government debt, making it easier to service and continue overspending.
Ultimately, inflation is a form of taxation.
It's really an incomplete - perhaps even a disingenuous - argument to put the blame solely on "greedy" corporations.
