  • This video shows the safest way to connect a small propane heater with fuel hose inside a micro van. Specific products reviewed are the Camco Olympian Wave 3 catalytic propane heater and Mr. Heater Little Buddy. Also shows use of vent fans and a small clip, variable speed, oscillation fan powdered by USB charging. The low pressure Camco hose is 12 feet long, not 10 feet like I mistakenly said in this video.
    On low setting, the Olympian Wave 3 heater burns 1600 BTU’s which it roughly uses 1 pound of propane per 10 hours. On high setting, the Wave 3 burns 3000 BTUs which will consume one pound of propane in 5-6 hours. My 20 lb tank will last approximately 200 hours on low setting. Hope this helps you calculate propane costs & usage. Also note, Olympian Wave heaters use both propane & catalytic heating elements! They sip propane unlike the thirsty Buddy heaters. Olympian Wave heaters are MUCH safer for indoor use putting off less condensation than Mr. Heater Buddy propane heaters! Olympian Wave heaters are specifically made for camper/RV/van indoor use. Buddy heaters are made for tents, ice houses, deer tree stands with more air circulation. Plus all Buddy heaters have a burning flame 🔥. Wave catalytic propane heaters only use a flame pilot light during the initial start- a big, important difference!

    I bought one of these it works great for my cargo trailer conversion. IMO it’s worth the initial investment! Good overall review!

      Do you use high or low setting most of the time? 3000 BTUs on high versus 1600 BTUs on low setting. Great investment because the Wave 3’s sip propane compared to the flaming Buddy heater at 3800 BTUs. Thanks for visiting my channel.

      @@microvanlife7490 I use the low setting mostly. I have been in colder temps (32 and below) where I've used the high setting. I agree the Wave 3 sips propane which is nice.

    You should absolutely add a propane detector and place it as low as possible in your vehicle because propane is heavier than air. If you place it up high, a propane leak can kill you without the alarm sounding.

    How much propane does it suck?

    • @microvanlife7490
      @microvanlife7490  ปีที่แล้ว

      On it's maximum heat setting the Wave 3 uses 1/8 lb of propane per hour. A 20 lb tank would last around 160 hours. On it's low setting it uses approximately 1/15 lb per hour so it should run around 300 hours. Camco is the manufacturer.

    leaving the propane out in the weather your regulator will freeze up with gas still on just isn't a safe move...be safe

      When you have an aboveground propane tank, you may be wondering if the propane inside it could freeze or be damaged when the temperature plummets. Here's the story. The freezing point of propane is -44 degrees Fahrenheit. Look at how many ice fishermen use propane heat in sub-freezing temperatures. I have a C02 detector inside my van along with fire alarm. Ask yourself why travel trailers always store propane outside the camper? Van lifers are taking huge risks storing propane tanks inside their vans without proper shielding (usually enclosed in a separate compartment). I appreciate you taking the time to comment on my channel.

      @@microvanlife7490 Dopey! Pay attention! CJAM is talking about the REGULATOR! If the REGULATOR freezes in the open position you could get a gas runaway situation where the pressure free-flows and is no longer regulated. Now do you understand? (Probably not.)

      @@vespagts7078 no need to be rude and call “Dopey” names. I appreciate your cautionary warning. Many campers and RVs have dual propane tanks OUTSIDE their rigs. They use similar hoses with regulators. Can you cite a source where freezing occurred? I seldom camp below 32 degrees Fahrenheit but would like to share valuable information on this channel.

      This is a good setup in this video. Has to be vented correctly these heaters are excellent with the proper safety equipment.

    Does it leave alot of moisture on things and condensation on the walls?

    • @microvanlife7490

      Not that i noticed. But i left the propane tank outside and the Wave 3 catalytic heater burns differently than the active flame Buddy propane heaters. Sweating, moisture on the Buddy can be felt on its screw-on, 1 pound propane canisters during use. Hope this helps.

      😝 Mr. Buddy works well when not sleeping near it; active flame. Mr. Buddy (smallest one) doesn’t have a fuel adjustment setting. My Olympian Wave 3 burns less than half the fuel as Mr. Buddy at low setting. And less fuel than Mr. Buddy at high setting. Propane is expensive now especially those 1 lb canisters. That’s why I built a stand for my small Buddy heater. You get what you pay for. I have both heaters for different purposes

      I sleep about 5 ft from mine and have for several years, no problems, and I don't use those canisters. The low setting is all I ever need and even that is too much sometimes.

      @@danielgreen7159which model of Mr. Buddy do you use? Mine is the smallest one (top heavy on 1 lb canister). It’s too big for my little van. My homemade stand lowers the height and makes it useable in cold weather below 32 degrees or quickly heating up my garage in Ohio.

      Of the 3, I use the middle sized one. Actually come to think of it, they've got a fourth one now ,called the "flex". Anyway ,mine is the next up from the smallest.

    Is it a wet/moist heat?

    • @OldSchool4U
      @OldSchool4U 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s a catalytic heat. It’s safer to leave propane tank outside van. Propane in tanks sweat (give off moisture). That’s why you get condensation with the Little Buddy because the one pound green propane canister condenses moisture. Also cross-ventilation is needed in vans & campers for propane heaters. Olympian Wave 3 uses propane (active flame) to light its catalytic mat. And then the active flame goes away while the catalytic process heats the mat fueled by propane. It uses very little compared to the Buddy heater. Hope this explanation helps.

    I bought mine in 2019 from the US. I live on Vancouver Island. I fired it up by instruction but no blue flame and it shut off. Over and over it shut off. Do you have any idea why there is no blue flame? It's to expensive to send back . Any advice is appreciated. 😢

      It sounds like you have a fuel flow issue. Make sure you’re only using propane! Not butane or other fuel sources. And open the valve on your propane tank clockwise. This allows the propane fuel to enter attached hose. Next step is turn Wave heater knob to start. Push in piezo starter switch for 10-15 seconds. You should see a spark. It’s not an active flame for long. Next place heater setting on low or high. The mat is catalytic which means it’s a chemical heating element not constant active flame. You should see mat (heater element) turn red, especially on high setting. Let me know if this helps. I go outside and turn my propane tank off when ready to shutdown. Within seconds, all the propane inside hose is quickly used. That’s how you also know if someone outside is tampering with fuel if they turn off propane tank by turning knob on tank counter-clockwise to shut off gas. I use the smaller 5 pound Growler propane tank in America with my Wave 3 heater: Ignik Refillable Gas Growler Deluxe 5-Pound Propane Tank with Carry Case and Adapter Hose, Natural a.co/d/1W6KMUR
