I knew this was gonna be a good one, the sound board recordings at Gilman were always pretty decent. You used to be able to give them a tape and they’d record the show for you, I had a bunch from the early/mid 90’s.
@roman24inohio Listening back to the early stuff, I think some of the songs are pretty good! I have an emotional connection though so I might be biased! We gradually stopped playing most of them as the band grew and the songwriting evolved.
@Plankfan It's a pleasure to share this stuff. This show was a really big deal to us and it was the only time we got to play there since they have (or had?) a "no major label bands" policy.
@@DerekGrantMusic I believe that's still a generally standing policy there, but I know they've made some exceptions for Green Day in more recent years haha
@Employee00765 It's so strange anytime I go to Third Man or Pie Sci, things have changed so much - I suppose it's for the better, but I kind of miss the danger!
@DerekGrantMusic Pie Sci is my favorite. Next time you play Detroit, I'll buy you pizza! (You're correct. Gentrification has cleaned things up and created new fun things to do but kind of ruined everything and priced people out, too.)
Derek, it's such a joy to listen to this stuff! Thank you for sharing.
Your playing on Hey was always one of my favorite drumming tracks. This just magnified it 10x
@thomasnieman7086 Thanks! I was a real show-off back then!

Everyday Life! Yes! I’ve always loved that song. Bass and drums sound really good in the mix. So glad you’re doing these, @DerekGrantMusic

Ha ha. 44 Willis! The Cass Corridor used to be scary as hell!
@Employee00765 No joke! I couldn't afford to live around there now
@@DerekGrantMusic right? I bought a house a while ago and now it's worth double!

@Employee00765 I'm not playing much anymore aside from a few Vandals shows but I live in Hamtramck so I'll take you up on your offer sometime.
