Nice idea of using a jig hook Chris (and Mo) ! ...makes a lot of sense ( room to finish a tied head, presents and hooks well etc) ...will definitely be tying some up and giving them a try!...thanks for your time and sharing
Hi Chris, caught this one! I agree, the jig hook is ideally suited to an emerger such as this. Nice easy pattern to tie, but non the less effective. Looking forward to the next post already
Well done Chris another superb video and a great emerger, a pal of mine who is a brilliant tyer has just made some quill bodied flies and I was very impressed with how natural the quill makes them look, just like segmented fly bodies. Waiting for the next instalment from you.
Very nice tie, Chris! good idea using the jig hooks for emergers, I've only got as far as weighted bugs with them so far. My fly tying videos haven't done so well, but I may give it another go 👍
Thanks David, I think you should try putting some more tying videos out, not that easy to film (I could do with a better camera) perhaps you'll get more views in the closed season? Not that views are all that important it's just nice to get a few comments from people like yourself. Hopefully they'll catch some trout for other anglers next year.
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 I know what you mean, but I'm trying to boost the coarse fishing element at the moment. I've a Sony camera with a tripod for good close focus, I thought I did decent ties but it seems viewers prefer to fish with you! I suspect a lot of viewers see it as escapism, especially fly fishing on lovely moorland streams. The fly tying is more for those wanting practical advice, although I love watching others tie flies! 👍
Klinkhammer hook is a good shout, I'll give it a try. I'd be sad to abandon the old dun hacked patterns but there's no doubt that emerger style flies are very effective.
Excellent fly. A tier on another channel addressed the problem of the biot getting too wide before reaching the wing - he uses his scissors to cut a thin tapered piece off the wider end, keeping the raised ridge intact. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/xBHnRarW1zs/w-d-xo.html

Apologies, I should have said "wild Mallard" not natural but I'm not changing it now!

Superb Chris, another one for my already long list! 👏🏻
Nice one Chris. Somehow I missed this one when you published it.
Very nice idea and patern

Yes, the way it produces what looks like tiny hairs on the segments is really lifelike, makes great nymph bodies aswell.
Nice one Chris will give it a go!

I've been tying this one on a hanak klinkhammer hook in 14. It was my most productive fly by a long margin last season
